I always thought WC was a part of stardock, i.e. customizations for their paid software and subscriptions?

It is, but it has been in the red for yonks. The gaming side pays the difference, I assume.
All that stuff is far above my pay grade (which is zero).
Maybe there are plans to do just that. I haven't the vaguest idea, tbh. The Gallery and modernizing it with necessary tools, etc. is yet another can of worms. Maybe that's what's holding everything back. Maybe not. Maybe trying to fix it will cause irreparable harm. I truly don't know enough to give authoritative answers.
Now, how about some gorgeous desktops...not seeing enough of them!
There might be a way to unite them now they're uploaded to the Gallery for moderation, or after they're in the Gallery, perhaps.
I'll have to ask my mod gurus Jafo and Hankers so not modding them atm.

Some trivia: I had 98 icons ready when I began to think about the iconset name, when suddenly I had it: Why not add 3 to it and call it '101' as a smal tribbute to early Depeche Mode, when their music still meant something to me (up to 'Violator' that was). '101' also is the name of their best live-album of all times recorded at The Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA.
I am sure, the next addition to that will be '242'.

'101' also is the name of their best live-album of all times recorded at The Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA. I thought Violator was a great album. A more darker sound than their previous stuff. "Personal Jesus", "Enjoy the Silence" and "Halo" are all top notch in my book.
To make it clear: Up to including Violator. Enjoy the Silence is the best Popsong ever made to me.

It has been a rough couple of years in the tech industry in general.
Windows 12 Hopefully will change that. A lot of people may have skipped windows 11 altogether (which also affects stardocks profits along with pc makers and other companies) Less people will be skipping Windows 12 though because Windows 10 support will be ending. That may be enough to get silicon valley moving in the right direction again.
It may be a perfect time to update WC!
