Using the latest version of Start11 (2021-11-20)

Just checking if there's any update on this issue?

Quoting vwkyote, reply 53

Seems to be much more stable now with the Beta

Quoting jcr1993, reply 54

The beta is definitely an improvement where search in concerned. Much more stable so far.

The 'beta' is now the 1.11 current release:

There is an update available but it doesn't fully download. First it went to 10.11MB / 39.48MB, next 3.11MB, now its stuck at 33.16MB.

Please advise when this issue will be fixed.

I just tested, and it downloads just fine. If you are you using any download manager, try without, or try another browser.

Same crashing issues here.  For me, when I try to change icon color or type things hang and have to shut Start11 down.  I'm running the free trial and considering all the crashing issues I'm reading about on the forums not sure I will get the paid version unless there's an easy.... read that again EASY fix.   If so please reply and I will try a fix.  If not, don't bother.  Great application if it weren't so buggy.

I am sorry you are experiencing issues.

Are you able to give us a few more details on the problem so we can look to reproduce it here?

You mention changing icon colour, does it hang or crash and is this having picked an existing colour from the list, trying to pick a custom colour from the colour picker, when trying to open the menu for picking colour or after changing colour of a few items?

I assume you are using the Windows 10 style menu?

Likewise you mention type, do you mean type to search or something else?

I'm also experiencing very frequent crasing issues in Start 11. When I perform a search, the Start 11 panel disappears. The next time I access the Start Menu, it's back  to the Windows 11 default implementation, which might (or might not) be repainted with the Start 11 menu.  After that, Start 11 restarts.

Here's the Application Error I find in the Event Log when I experience the crash. Is there a way to have Start 11 generate a dump file so I can send that along , too?

It looks like you are using a rather old version of Start11 from 8th Jan 2022.  There were significant changes to search to workaround a problem with some third party modules causing crashes in searches about a week later in January.  Have you disabled automatic update checking as you should have been prompted for upgrades to 1.11 and 1.2 by now?

If you update to Start11 1.2 (current release) or 1.21 (current beta) I imagine your problem will be resolved assuming you use Start11 search rather than classic S10 style search.

Nope, this is the current version. Automatic updates are enabled. If I manually check with the "Check now..." button, I'm told that "Your copy of Start11 is up to date".

I have several MDMP files. What's the best way to get them to you? I'd rather send them directly since I have no idea what PII they might contain.

That is definitely not the current version dll.

Does the config UI say 1.2 on the about page?

If so the install didn't work right and files were not replaced correctly as the dll in that crash report was built in January.

Can you uninstall Start11 (do not delete settings), reboot (important) and then install 1.2 from your downloads on the store.  This should ensure all the files are replaced correctly.

It says version 1.1 in the about box, but it also says that's the current version, and automtaic updates are enabled, as you asked. Why would the automatic service and the manual check be broken? Sounds like I now have to report two bugs.

How do I find a newer version, since all the features meant to lead me to a newer version are broken? Anything I try to clock on the website asks for my email address and payment again.

Newest version can always be found in this link here

Thank you for the helpful post! I've upgraded to 1.2.  How do I report the issue with the failure to upgrade?

We figured out why that was happening and pushed a server update.

Thanks for the heads up on that.

Great! I noticed my desktop machine was also stuck at 1.1 claiming current version and no updates, but when I tried again today it downloaded and installed the update no problem. Seems like you might add some metrics to the download servers to see if they're actually doing as much work as expected so that you might proactively stay ahead of issues like this.

Hangs when I try to make any changes to the icons and after a min or so I end task as I can't wait around to see if it executes the change.  Doesn't let me get to a color picker or anything, as soon as I right click on an icon and see the menu it hangs.

Using Windows 1o style

Yes search,

I have this problem as well.  Fresh Windows 11 Pro and Start11 install (new PC).  I had same problem on old PC (10 to 11 upgrade).  Can find no correlations.  Explorer will even restart when I'm browsing the web or just reading an article.  Tends to restart about every 10 minutes.

Would you be willing to assist us to collect some dmp files so we can investigate the cause?

Fences and Start 11 have stopped working properly for me I believe it was due to a recent Microsoft Blunder, they patched things and messed up in the naming and pathing cant get to My PC without going through a hassel, The Start 11 will not change the Start Button Icon and Fences is constantly complaining  that Explorer has closed improperly and wipes out the desktop Icons I had set.

Of course.  How do I collect and where do I send.  This morning, on waking the PC, the task bar was not visible at all.  Hitting the Win button brought up the standard Windows 11 Start Menu at the bottom center of the screen (I normally run the task bar at the top of the desktop with the Windows 10 Start Menu).  No Start Menu was visible anywhere on the screen and was not automatically hidden either.  I do use Dragon NaturallySpeaking, FYI.

Note: please excuse typos as I only have one working arm at the moment.
