Start11 Community Translations - Legacy

Start11 Community Translations - Legacy

Community Translations

We are creating this thread should any community members wish to post translations for languages or updates to ones that already exist.

The Languages that Stardock supports and will update:

  • English

  • German

  • Spanish

  • French

  • Korean

  • Russian

  • Portuguese - Brazil

  • Chinese (Simplified)

  • Chinese (Traditional)

All other languages will not be directly supported by Stardock nor will they be included in any install.

Where are language files stored?

For Stardock applications that support language edits, there will be a 'lang' directory in the application installation folder.  For example, Start11s would be:

\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start11\lang

An app that does not support language edits would not have that directory (Fences would be an example of one that does not).

The .lng files listed there are human-readable text files - easily edited in notepad for example.

How are language files formatted?

The format would be:

'English text'='translated text'

English (en) file example:

"Which theme do you want to use?"="Which theme do you want to use?"

Spanish (es) file example:

"Which theme do you want to use?"="¿Qué tema quieres usar?"

For prime languages that have variations, Chinese (Traditional \ Simplified) or Portugues (Brazil) for example, the following line needs to exist:

Exist=1Example:

If you wanted to add a notation to a line, to describe a reason for some translation perhaps, you can use the semicolon as an escape character.

Example:

;Changed from
;"Which style of start menu would you prefer?"="选择「开始」菜单样式:"
;To
"Which style of start menu would you prefer?"="选择「开始"

Note: The English file included with the installer should have the most recent phrases for everything in the UI.  If the phrase does not exist in the currently supported alternant language, adding it, with its translation, would be required.

Submitting languages

The following post would be an example of what would be acceptable to have it be considered for inclusion.

Line number (Notepad++ has them for example):
Old Text:
New text:
Shared link to lng file: <link>

One should be sure that the text fits in the UI, for example, this would be unacceptable:

We will monitor this thread for submissions and evaluate any of the Stardock supported languages for inclusion in an official update \ installer.

We will do the same for any unsupported languages, and update this thread with them, but they will not be included in any official installation file.

Clients that do summit translations for the aforementioned Stardock supported languages, and they are accepted into an install, will likely be compensated with non-monetary items - for example, new or extensions to Object Desktop subscriptions.

We appreciate any effort members put into this.

Hi to all.
I have prepared a file that includes the entire translation of Start11 in the Greek language (ver. 1.36).

The file (el.lng) should be copied to the folder "Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start11\lang" and since the language of Windows 11 is Greek, the translation will appear automatically.

I am attaching some screenshots for you to sample:

You can download the language file from here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AkVVQj5jvHV-iF32a5pf5FNtgKrj?e=uRW6w7

I'd be happy if someone found it useful, as well as if the stardock incorporated it into their useful app.

Regards from Greece,

HaryK

Hi Hary-k,

I know it's not always possible with some languages, but would it be possible to "adjust" the translations that fill two rows or does not fit in the spaces provided in the programs? We can see about getting it added to future versions.

Thanks!

Hi Paul, thank you for your reply.

I prepaered a new file and now the buttons seems that way:

I shortened the descriptions and those who know Greek, will surely understand what is written on the buttons.

I have already incorporated the changes into the file available for download in my original post.

If you need anything else, don't hesitate to contact me.

Regards from Greece,

HaryK

Thank you Hary-k,

We are going to include your translations in an upcoming build of Start11. For your time spent on this, we have added a year license for Object Desktop to your Stardock account!

Hello Everyone.

"Explorer Patcher" is not good, so I am trying to use Start11    :-)

Corrected the Japanese file of Start11 ver1.39.1.

Modifications include addition of untranslated parts and correction of slightly strange parts as Japanese. Corrected excesses and deficiencies in double quotations.

The ja.lang file can be downloaded from OneDrive below.

Thank you.

Start11 not support Finnish language or atleast not very good so i decided translate it better.

Updated version:

I translated it fully now, I tried my best. (there is most likely some translate issues nothing major i think,) Some texts not fit fully so needed remove couple words.. also some things wasn't possible translate but if there are Finnish people who use that program, hopefully can try and test and update translate better if notice some wrong.

We will look it over, Makezu.  After we do, we will post here that it was accepted.
