Start11 Community Translations - Legacy

Start11 Community Translations - Legacy

Community Translations

We are creating this thread should any community members wish to post translations for languages or updates to ones that already exist.

The Languages that Stardock supports and will update:

  • English

  • German

  • Spanish

  • French

  • Korean

  • Russian

  • Portuguese - Brazil

  • Chinese (Simplified)

  • Chinese (Traditional)

All other languages will not be directly supported by Stardock nor will they be included in any install.

Where are language files stored?

For Stardock applications that support language edits, there will be a 'lang' directory in the application installation folder.  For example, Start11s would be:

\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start11\lang

An app that does not support language edits would not have that directory (Fences would be an example of one that does not).

The .lng files listed there are human-readable text files - easily edited in notepad for example.

How are language files formatted?

The format would be:

'English text'='translated text'

English (en) file example:

"Which theme do you want to use?"="Which theme do you want to use?"

Spanish (es) file example:

"Which theme do you want to use?"="¿Qué tema quieres usar?"

For prime languages that have variations, Chinese (Traditional \ Simplified) or Portugues (Brazil) for example, the following line needs to exist:

Exist=1Example:

If you wanted to add a notation to a line, to describe a reason for some translation perhaps, you can use the semicolon as an escape character.

Example:

;Changed from
;"Which style of start menu would you prefer?"="选择「开始」菜单样式:"
;To
"Which style of start menu would you prefer?"="选择「开始"

Note: The English file included with the installer should have the most recent phrases for everything in the UI.  If the phrase does not exist in the currently supported alternant language, adding it, with its translation, would be required.

Submitting languages

The following post would be an example of what would be acceptable to have it be considered for inclusion.

Line number (Notepad++ has them for example):
Old Text:
New text:
Shared link to lng file: <link>

One should be sure that the text fits in the UI, for example, this would be unacceptable:

We will monitor this thread for submissions and evaluate any of the Stardock supported languages for inclusion in an official update \ installer.

We will do the same for any unsupported languages, and update this thread with them, but they will not be included in any official installation file.

Clients that do summit translations for the aforementioned Stardock supported languages, and they are accepted into an install, will likely be compensated with non-monetary items - for example, new or extensions to Object Desktop subscriptions.

We appreciate any effort members put into this.

With the upcoming release of 1.30, there will be some additional lines in need of translation (1.25 - 1.30), I will try and round up all of the user submissions to be updated for the 1.31 release

Hello everyone. Is there a Dutch language available for Start11? If not I could edit the english language but how do I change the language in Start11? Thank you in advance.

When translating to french, there's always the recurring difficulty not to have a neutral genre available and a taskbar is to be considered as feminine. Therefore, all the alignment dedicated messages are applying to the taskbar, have been translated accordingly.

fr.lng

Lines 56, 57, 160, 161: Aligné => Alignée (masculine to feminine)

Line 664: Centré => Centrée (masculine to feminine)

Line 665: Aligné au centre => Centrée (masculine to feminine)

Line 666: activera => entraînera (avoid repeating terms)

Line 669: "Align top is not compatible with autohide taskbars when on Windows 11 22H2 and later."="L'option Alignée en haut n'est pas compatible avec le masquage automatique de la barre des tâches sous Windows 11 22H2 et versions ultérieures." (masculine to feminine and shrinked to single line)

BTW, I just realized that in the current Start11 french translation (v1.32), some references to Fences(r) components (ie. fences) have been translated as-is, instead of being kept under its untranslated form, as it was done in the french translation of the Fences product itself.

In order to be more coherent, I would suggest to apply the following modifications:

fr.lng

Line 468: "Insert Fence"="Insérer un fence"

I was also wondering if all references to Fences(r) (the product) shouldn't always be specified with the trademark registration char. For now, some of them are missing.

(as the fix was reduced to a single word, I didn't re-released the language file)

Hi there, I've fixed some translate issue, please have check.

  • L9 "advanced" 先進 -> 進階
  • L14 "skin" 皮膚 -> 外觀
    People in Taiwan use 「皮膚」for human or animal's skin, its not good to use it to describe settings.
  • L51 "pixel" 圖元 -> pixel
  • L60 "fullscreen" 全屏 -> 全螢幕
  • L201 "extensions" 擴展 -> 擴充
  • L208 the origin translate was Cantonese

Hello,

There is a bug in the translation.

All Programs does not appear in French with "Style Windows 7".

But if I choose "Modern Style" it's ok.

I use WindowsBlinds 11, Start11 and IconPackager. (All up to date)

Windows 10 22H2

Why ?

I had a quick check on Start11 v1.36 in an updated Windows 11 localized in french and the text is well translated.

I don't want to switch to win 11 for the moment.

I tried to install start10 and the problem is the same.

If a developer comes by to know about the bug it would be great.

I don't know who made the Dutch translation (I tried myself too, but someone else already did |-) ). There is a small error in the translation file nl.lng:
Wrong:
"&Hibernate"="&Slaapstand"

Correct:
"&Hibernate"="S&luimerstand"

I will scan for more errors, but haven't found one yet.
