How To Handle Space Bugs

So you want to help us deal with space bugs huh? Well, there are plenty of them. Here we will give you some pointers on how to best help us.

Go to give feedback

  • You can also create your own unique threads and link them here. But include at least the basic details here!
  • Ensure the issue/feedback you are talking about is relevant to the VERSION NUMBER listed (See below for how)
  • Make sure all of your drivers are updated and verify the game files after every update before reporting an issue. This can often be the culprit.
  • If there is a bug that keeps repeating:
    • Include all steps you make to reproduce it.
    • Include any save games including auto saves.
    • Also please include debug.err files and pref.ini files as they can help with reproducing map generation or graphical errors.
    • When the crash dialogue appears ensure you put in an e-mail for our devs to follow up

What graphic screen resolution are you using, in particular are you using the 4k UI option?
I suspect that their graphics and texts were created for the 4k UI mode and may not work as well with the older UI resolution, i.e. parts of the text having problems being displayed properly.

When I traded for the Tech that enables using and trading the Diplomatic Points, I thought I was supposed to get 100 points to start with, and I think that I did not get the 100 points.

My game won't upgrade to V 0.6

I have auto update turned on. I even uninstalled and reinstalled, but it is still V 0.55

What do I do?

I have a stuck turn in a new game with version 0.60.208431a that is repeatable.  It is the type of stuck turn that can be "fixed" by going to the main menu and opening the Victory Status.  It happens twice in the same turn.  The second time is after the first has been "fixed".

The save that shows this problem is available here.

To see the problem, do the following:

  1. Load save.
  2. Go to next turn.
  3. Answer No to colonize planet.
  4. Go to idle ship and choose pass.
  5. Go to next idle ship and choose pass.
  6. Go to third idle ship and choose pass.
  7. Game will hang with Krynn Syndicate showing at bottom right.

To Remove the Hang:

  1. Bring up main menu.
  2. Click on Victory Status button.
  3. Game will start progressing while Victory Status screen is loading.
  4. Click on Done to exit Victory Status.
  5. Game will hang with Xeloxi showing at bottom right.
  6. Repeat Victory Status steps to remove hang.
  7. Game will continue without a problem to your turn.

There should be a way to get rid of the menus that pop up, at least for the Xeloxi. On Xeloxi every turn has a pop up to make a decision about crime on one or more of the planets and it gets annoying. I get that a normal Civ would probably want an alert if crime was getting too high on a planet, but maybe there could be a invest in crime option for civilizations that want to embrace it, so that the player is not constantly bombarded with pop ups.

I meet a alien civilization and am getting the choice to research the translator tech, but it never comes available to research. Is this happening to anyone else?

It does become available for research, just not immediately like it did in earlier versions.  It may take a long time before it can be researched.

I haven't tried any of the options to change the research choices to see if it will appear sooner.

Pirate ship breaking its tether and chasing my probe all over the sector.

In GC4 pirate ships are “tethered” to their shipyard and can’t go too far from it.  Shortly after loading a save in my current game in 0.60.208431a I saw a pirate ship that was well beyond its tether.  It looked like it was chasing one of my automated probes, so I took control of my probe and began moving it to verify the pirate ship knew where my probe was at all times and would chase it anywhere in the sector.

I reloaded the save that I started from and used console commands to see what was happening.  The pirate ship may or may not have been beyond its tether, but it was already chasing the probe, which wasn’t very far away.

The “chasing a ship wherever it goes without being able to see it” has existed since GalCiv2, so I’m not concerned about that.  This is just a bug report about the pirate ship breaking its tether.  The chasing comes “naturally” after the tether is broken.

To see this in action, load the save here.  The probe, pirate ship (Sniper-49) and shipyard are located as shown in this screenshot.
Use the appropriate commands to see what is happening in the fow, play the game a few turns, and watch Sniper-49 chase the probe.  After that, take control of the probe, and move it left to the far edge of the sector.  Play more turns and watch Sniper-49 follow the probe all the way to the left side of the sector, which is far beyond its tether.  Again, it’s Sniper-49 breaking the tether I’m reporting.

Thanks! I was able to fix this. The AI was trying to send a ship to defend a planet that already had its orbit slots filled.

Any timeline when .6 will move to the regular version? I want to start a new game but I’m waiting to test out the new version after freezing my last game. I’d download both but I only got a 1TB hard drive. Although if it’s gonna be 3 weeks or more I might download both.

My issue:  As the game progresses, it gets painfully slow.  I have a save file here that you can use to see what I am talking about.  It is a save that is just prior to clicking on the next turn icon after completing 395 turns.  I am playing as the Mimot Brotherhood against 16 opponents in a "Galactic Arm" galaxy size.  My machine has 32 GB of memory and an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz processor.

What I would like for you to do is load the game, click on the next turn icon and then play a couple of turns doing whatever you want to do.  The things I would like you to notice:

  1. The sequence of the windows that pop up is not intuitively correct.  For example, when the new technology window appears you will not be able to do anything with it and then other windows will pop up over it.  Eventually, you will be able to select a new technology.
  2. How easy is it to load the transports?  Try to look at the traits of the citizens and then select them until done.
  3. When a world management screen opens, how long does it take to create a list of things to be built/done and then leave the screen.
  4. When a shipyard management screen opens, how long does it take to create a list of ships to build and then leave the screen.
  5. When you upgrade a ship, how long does it take to select an upgrade and then have it applied.
  6. From the Governors screen, fire Bloody Dathbar as governor of Askella II then assign Richard O'Malley as governor of Askella II and see how long that takes.
  7. When you move one of your ships on top of another one of your ships, how long does it take to combine them into a fleet.

On the positive side, the new version is much faster earlier in the game and a number of the crash bugs appear to have been fixed.

I do not know if this was on the list of fixes, but applying the Chimeric Biomass to a world still does not work in 0.6.  The following screen snapshot shows a world where I applied a Chimeric Biomass.  The class of the world increased from 18 to 20, but if you count the tiles there are only 18 and no undeveloped tiles.

The auto colony button doesn't check to see if a ship is already headed to that planet. It's nice that it makes a beeline for the most valuable planet. But if you use it twice you'll have two ships headed to that planet, and when the second one gets there it'll just be waiting in orbit and you might not notice you have an unused colony ship for a really long time or ever. A simple improvement would be when you use it the first time it logs that destination and then when you use Auto colony the second time it takes that planet off the list of available planets because there's already a ship headed there.

Where do I get it? My Epic launcher only shows v0.55 alpha

Right next to the regular beta should be a test version.  Start a new game in that to play the 6.0 Beta.

UPDATE: Version 0.60.208431a was released as the new Beta version today (11/3)

I got 23 hours into a game and it is moving so slow it is almost unplayable. I am on the 2nd to largest map. It says you only need 12gb of RAM and I have 32. Does anyone know what goes on with a big map from a computer science perspective? There has to be something else causing this. I am not sure if it is my computer or the game. I have a top of the line 2021 gaming laptop.

This is the most recent changelog for version 60 that I have seen.  It's one iteration behind, probably not enough big changes for them to do an updated changelog yet.

I'm running 12 AI at the moment. I haven't experienced any issues other than dumb AI play, i.e. sending unarmed transports to invade one of my planets unescorted.

I noticed that the lag time gets bad when my colony counts surpasses 200. Maybe it's more about the colony count in the exact size of the map.

The victory status menu is only showing conquest, Alliance, and prestige. I selected all the victory conditions except prestige.
