GC4 EA Feedback Test Branch | VERSION 0.60.208328

How To Handle Space Bugs

So you want to help us deal with space bugs huh? Well, there are plenty of them. Here we will give you some pointers on how to best help us.

Go to give feedback

  • You can also create your own unique threads and link them here. But include at least the basic details here!
  • Ensure the issue/feedback you are talking about is relevant to the VERSION NUMBER listed (See below for how)
  • Make sure all of your drivers are updated and verify the game files after every update before reporting an issue. This can often be the culprit.
  • If there is a bug that keeps repeating:
    • Include all steps you make to reproduce it.
    • Include any save games including auto saves.
    • Also please include debug.err files and pref.ini files as they can help with reproducing map generation or graphical errors.
    • When the crash dialogue appears ensure you put in an e-mail for our devs to follow up

How to tell which version you are on?

I'm playing as the Xeloxi.  This screenshot shows how much I can see without exploring that much.

The area seems to be expanding every few turns like it's influence.  I do have no FOW in my territory, but I don't have full visibility in those areas that I can see objects.  I certainly haven't explored them.

When I automate a survey ship, it doesn't go to an anomaly that is close but is in an area where I can see it, but the area isn't fully visible.  Instead, the survey ship goes to an anomaly that is far away but is actually visible because it is in an area that has been explored.

Is this normal for the Xeloxi?  I didn't see anything in the change log that mentioned this ability.

EDIT

After saving the game and loading the save, what is visible is now like it has been in the alpha.I haven't played any turns yet to see what happens.

EDIT 2

After two turns and building a starbase, the extra visibility returned.I need to do more testing.

EDIT 3

I loaded the save again and again didn't have the extra visibility.  This time I didn't build the starbase, but the visibility expanded to what it was earlier.

Also, that screenshot shows I've met a minor race.  I can't talk to them because I don't have universal translator and can't research it.  I guess this means I can't research it until I've met a major race.  I think meeting a minor race should also grant that ability.

Finally, that screenshot shows that the scarcity of resources doesn't exist in this game.  I don't remember my setting for resources, but it's the same I've been using.  I think this is a welcome change, but I may decide to decrease the amounts in my next game.

I just started a new game using version 0.6 and I have already run into an issue with anomolies.  I can accept that it now takes multiple turns to examine the anomalie, but when the examination is complete I no longer get a dialog telling me what was found.  If I look in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and hover over the icon that shows the results of the examination I get a popup describing what was found.  As you can see in the first screen snapshot below, I should have received a "Mnemonic Nanites" charge but, as you can see in the second screen snapshot of the lower right-hand corner of the screen, I did not get it.

Am I missing something with respect to where the Mnemonic Nanites should appear or is this a bug?

How can this commander ship launch a ranged missile attack when it only has kinetic?

Artifacts have been moved into the Mode panel.

Also, those appear on planets can be improved and appear in the list.  That's how I got the Dimensional Mirror, which is the left of the two icons showing.

In the new game I just started with version 0.6 I have noticed that the radius of the area of influence of my homeworld is increasing by 5 cells every turn.  As you can see from the below screen snapshot, I am only on turn 12 and the radius is already over 40.  Is this what you intended to happen or is this a bug?

Another interesting behavior with respect to the rapidly increasing influence radius is that when a new turn starts, not all of the new cells are visible (first screen snapshot below).  However, when I move my probe 1 cell, all of the cells in my new expanded sphere of influence become visible.  I would expect the cells in the new expanded sphere of influence to be visible at the beginning of my turn BEFORE I do anything. This also shows you how rapidly my sphere of influence is expanding every turn.

I find myself having to kil my govenor almost every turn but al planets still have govenors.

When I hover over a planet OUTSIDE my sphere of influence I get a popup describing the planet as expected (first screen snapshot).  However, when I hover over a planet INSIDE my sphere of influence I do not get the popup (second screen snapshot).  Instead, I have to click on the planet to get a window in the lower left-hand corner of the screen giving a rather inadequate description of the planet (third screen snapshot).

Further note: It appears that the planet popup DOES appear for planets in a solar system in which I have colonized a planet, but not for planets in solar systems in which I have not yet colonized a planet.

What I'm seeing is that I get the popup for planets that are in the area my ships have explored, but don't for planets outside where my ships have explored, regardless of whether they are inside my influence or not.

Is this normal or am I missing some notifications?

I had 4 notifications queued up below my missions. Instead of looking at them, I used one of my surveying fleets to attack a pirate, and as the battle was resolved I saw all 4 of those notifications disappear. I support the effort to deal with the issue of too many windows popping up on the start of a turn, but putting them into the notifications area requires that you fix the unreliability of notifications that date back to GC3.

Edit: Just happened again. I had 4 or 5 notification appear at the beginning of a turn, but then the popup window to load a colonist onto a colony ship appeared and all of those new notifications disappeared before I could even deal with the colonist.

I was moving a probe along the edge of my starting sector.  Suddenly, I got the movie for “first subspace stream travel”.  I don’t have any of the techs that allow me to see or travel on subspace streams.  I think the probe traveled onto a tile that contains one end of a stream, but I can’t see it yet.

Later, when I researched subspace scanning, I found one end of a stream where I got the movie.  That movie seems to know where the streams are even if I don’t.

Killing the Govenor hasn't removed them from their planet in my game either.

However this new feature is also broken in several other ways.  This popup appears way to often.  Maybe you need to backoff on the parameter that makes this popup occur.  The popup seems to repeat immediately after you make your decision, but I don't think one of them does anything (I checked the next time & they both added +1 Authority).

I always make the decision to kill because I don't like the alternative (need another choice - like maybe do nothing?) and this leads to Authority becoming so over powered I'll never get to use Liberty.

Shouldn't compassion be decreasing with this choice, not increasing?

V 0.6 Playing as the Xeloxi, the Pirates do indeed attack me.

The Prestige Victory tooltip in the upper right says that I have 0 Ascension points, but the timeline in the Govern Civilization window shows I have 24 or 25 points, which sounds about right from when I built my first star base and started collecting them.  So the Prestige Victory tooltip is wrong. Also, I note that the Ascension point icon in the upper right is gone. Has that been subsumed into the Prestige Victory tooltip? If so, will we eventually get a tooltip-in-tooltip to show us our relative ranking and turns to ascension victory like we used to have?

Text boxes for notifications aren't big enough, text is cut off the top and bottom.

There's something wrong with the Incentives ideology under the Opportunity tree. It's supposed to increase the loyalty of all leaders. And in the tooltips for all the leaders, it's there as a +10, but the totals don't add up. 43+10 does not equal 43.

Edit: I checked the totals again the next turn, and again the turn after that, and they were still wrong. After saving the game, quitting, reloading, and playing another 10 or 20 turns I now find that the totals are correct. So Incentives does work, it just takes a while and maybe a save/reload.  If it's supposed to be a delayed effect that should be made clear to the player or you'll get a lot more bug reports like this one.

Also, I found there's a cooldown on giving harmony crystals to your leaders to increase their loyalty. That should also be made clear, since I'm now regretting my decision to take 1 harmony crystal per turn from a minor race.

When I finished researching Artificial Gravity, which allows small hulls to be used, the list of ships I could build included three Iridium_CommandShip types that ended in _01 or _02 or _03, but they weren’t real ships.  They are all empty hulls with incomplete names.

A save just before this happens is available here.

Load the save, look at the upper-left of the galaxy screen to see that Artificial Gravity needs only one week to finish, then look at a shipyard to see what ships can be built.  Go to the next turn, get the notification the research has been completed then choose something to research next.  Go to a shipyard and see all the new ships that can be built.  The three Iridium ships are the only ones that shouldn’t be there.

There are some small but noticeable formatting problems in the information boxes that appear when clicking on notification icons on the left side of the screen.

Text cut off below the line; the “y” and “py”

Text cut off on the right side.

I see this in my game also.

It is very nice to be able to downgrade core worlds!

Drag and drop a minister to unassigned should show a warning that this means to fire the minister.

Context menu for governours appears after clicking on the planet name but not if you click on the portrait. Click more than twice on the planet name is bugged.

I am getting a crash after I research warp theory.

Game cycles through the players and I am starting a new week. This is turn 88.

At that point the game crashes.

Here via link is my folder with the two most recent saves and the XML changes I do to change the starting home world.
