Known issues

  • There are still some scrolling issues on menus using MS precision touchpad.  Still being looked into.
  • Windows 10 menu has disabled option for hiding apps list.  This is not currently implemented hence the control being greyed out.

W11 22000.258

Start11 0.91 - W10 Style

issue: Start Menu application list returns to last position after you close and re-open it

expected behavior: start menu should go back to the top

when I close the menu to this position, next time I open it, it opens to the exact same position instead of going to the top

is it a feature? meaning it was coded to behave this way or is it unintended behavior

---

Recently Installed apps still can't be hidden

There are advantages to both ways.  If you are launching a few things from the list in the same folder then remembering location is useful.  That said the Win10 menu jumps to the top so we should probably copy that.

Recent installed apps should now be able to be hidden now.  Click on the box below Windows 10 style in Start11 settings and pick settings.  Then scroll to the bottom and untick Show recently added apps.  This should take effect after a short period.

1: I'd like to be an option to behave like standard W10

2: I absolutely missed the tick to remove recent apps :-"

thanks

I just installed RC2 and all 11 items that I had reported appear to be fixed. Great Job Stardock!

Thanks for so quickly addressing mine and others issues. If only MS would be so attentive...

I too hope to have option to make the All programs default back to the top

Also can we get option for Modern Style to not highlight recently added apps please?

Windows 10 style:

Option to "Show app list in start menu" is grayed out and is turned on. I'd like to turn it off.

Slightly visual issue in the settings.

W7 style is the one that is being hovered on with the mouse, W11 style is the selected one. As you can see, the frame/border displays normally top and bottom, but is cut off at the sides.

You can achieve the second one by adding a registry key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8 Add a REG_SZ called Highlight and set it to 0.

Then sign out and in again.

What scaling factor is your display set to?

That option is not yet implemented fully hence the disabled option in settings.

You should be able to adjust that in future updates but not RC2.

I have W11 style selected, when I go to its settings, scroll down and then up again, the highlighted text gets distorted. When I scroll down and up again, the text displays fine again. Scroll down and up again, distorted, etc... Looks like the ink has run out or something.

Edit: cannot consistently reproduce this. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

Windows 10 theme still does not allow groups to be easily moved. Actually, it's impossible to locate them to a new position without another group automatically filling the old space. But it's still better than the Windows 11 Start menu.

Thanks for fixing Discord not loading.

Those were my only two issues. Maybe you'll be able to fix the group reordering on the next go-round.

W11 style, set to full screen. Taskbar set to automatically hide, top of full screen gets cut off. This is a screenshot of the very top left of the screen.

When the taskbar is set to not automatically hide, it displays normally.

W11 Pro.

W11 Pro.

It is being caught out by the screen size changing after it has opened up.

Will see what we can do on that.

Using the Windows 10 style menu, still unable to collapse or remove the empty pinned apps space.

Would it be possible to add the functionality to delete the empty page, or allow the "Pinned" right hand portion of the menu to be collapsible all the way onto the main menu like you can in Windows 10 when it's empty?

Currently I can enlarge it, and shrink it back down by dragging the edge but the smallest it will shrink to is the size shown below.

Windows 11 21H2 (OS Build: 22000.258)

Is version 0.91 downloaded as 'Start11_setup_sd' the same as release candidate RC2? -  I don't use Object Desktop as found I use few of modules & a little confused as to the version I'm using - As I use few of the Universal Apps is there to be the possibility of either hiding them as in Start 10, or them being in there own folder in Start11>  Thanks :-)

Anyway to disable 'highlight newly installed programs' on the modern style menus? I don't see that option anywhere.

Also whatever you are doing differently to draw the start menu seems to have fixed this issue I had way back when.

Intentional or not, thanks for resolving it!

Just have to say - am (so far !) LOVING RC2 !  For a start, I can have a custom windows icon and still manage to have the clock, system tray, etc. all working perfectly.  Other tweaks seem to be all good.

Great job, guys !!!
