WindowBlinds 10.8.9.0 Changelog

Versioning changes for more flexibility.

Updated from 10.88 to 10.8.9.0 (06/10/2021)

  • Fix to work around a problem with start buttons having buttons go under them and potentially being made much less wide with that MS patch to add in the News and Weather link on the taskbar when that setting is set to be hidden
    Forum post: https://forums.stardock.com/505189/get;3808445
  • Should fix the glass area at the top of maximized explorer windows not repainting right and store windows now always use glass frames on entire edge vs part

WindowBlinds 10.88 Changelog

  • Resolves an issue with items on the links bar (when set to show on the taskbar) when in light taskbar mode picking the wrong theme part.
  • Fixes the version of Windows shown on the about page (note 20H2 shows a number thats slightly lower - this is an OS issue).
  • Fixes an issue with the previews on the transparency page in WB config screens when in dark mode not resetting the sliders when clicked.
  • Addresses an issue with Firefox (if set to skin) after going fullscreen (F11).
  • Should someone be using custom firefox themes which allow the browser to be skinned without the titlebar having to be turned on, they can force WB to theme this by adding the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\WindowBlinds\WB5.ini\WBLiteFX\AllowFFAlways = 1
  • Updated WB build with a small fix so the 'do not play sound' option checks the right place (Registry vs an ini)
  • A fix for an issue with the new weather applet on the taskbar not respecting the theme background
  • Fix for the taskbar buttons not always painting correctly
  • A fix for some drop down boxes now showing highlight colors and using a grey background instead of COLOR_WINDOW
  • Extended options for wallpaper alignment modes to include Fill, Fit and Span
  • Fixed issue with wallpaper changer not changing sometimes
  • A fix for a possible explorer crash on later OSes sometimes

Taskbar buttons/startbutton break when pressing the systemtray button, not sure if this is because I have curtains (though its set to windows 10 default theme), and im not using any other taskbar customization program. Could be because i'm using the latest windows 10 update? After clicking back on the taskbar, the space between the start button and taskbar buttons are broke

EDIT: so far seems to only happen with the nontransparent themes, I tried on a Vista Windows Blinds Skin and it works fine. However, trying with the Vista Plus skin by adni18, same problem occurs

as well as the startbutton issue

Hello Dalton,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I don't the issue on my system. But, when I change to 125% scale, I can see the issue. Which I think is related to latest Windows 10 21H1 updates taskbar issue. More on that issue here : https://forums.stardock.com/505139 .

In my system, If I change back to 100% scale and restart Explorer.exe it work again. What is your scale setting on your system?

Thanks

It seems that new Microsoft update is the gift that keeps on giving.

If you are running at a non 100% scaling setting AND have the taskbar news and interests feature disabled, the taskbar is overriding WBs positioning of things with larger than normal start buttons.

Unlike some of the other issues that version of Windows has, this one is probably to be under our control to workaround.

I figured it would be the new Windows 10 updates

Did you post this to say it still does not work with 100% and the weather gadget hidden?

So far I see no problem. I'm glad Firefox displays correctly now! Thanks :D

I posted that to show that's the display I use, I don't use anything outside of 100 (scale) and the weather gadget it already disabled

Disabling the gadget is the key to causing the issue.

For now you can leave it enabled to avoid the issue, roll back the MS patch or we should have a workaround for that in 10.89.

On a personal note I would strongly suggest everyone rolls back off that buggy patch.  It breaks the taskbar with numerous tools running such as Microsoft Spy++, Winspector Spy, MaxTo, Groupy, WindowFX, possibly Fences.  Quite how that got past Microsoft QA I will never know, it looks like someone did a last minute patch to put in that news feature and broke the entire taskbar when it is disabled!

Neil, what is the issue with WindowFX? I haven't seen any. No taskbar issues either, other than the one I reported in another thread.

The same as with other apps.  The right hand end of the taskbar paints over itself and the clock may vanish entirely.  Requires the News and weather link to be hidden and a non 100% dpi scaling mode.

Just out of curiosity Should the new version say 10.88 because mine still says 10.87 or is it just not updated for the betas?

If you have the beta installed, it should read 10.88:

Mine doesn't. Does WB allow install over or do I need to remove it first?

I haven't installed the beta yet. Was just curious if the issue in this thread (LINK) is possibly fixed.

Mine did that too, until I rebooted after the install.

Whenever I update WB first I change to the default windows theme. Then I uninstall WB which means a reboot. Then I install the update and reboot. It hasn't failed me yet.

I don't see any of the issues reported. All is well and Firefox is skinned again!

Should I even bother? The last update ruined Edge for me again. Against my better judgement I updated to 10.88 and it turned Edges titlebar back to default. Even did a system restore and that didn't help. Maybe fixing Firefox messed with Edge.

I guess it's Curtains for me.

That doesn't sound like something that was a change in WB, more likely it was an update in Edge which now defaults to starting up on bootup so it seems quicker to load.  Something that used to be in fashion in the past.  Doing so means it ignores the flag to start supporting custom titlebars.

The fix is to disable that feature in edge settings and then reboot.

WB process is protected. You must kill WB process in Task Manager or unistall WB.
