I have the exact same problem where Fences messes up the system tray icons. I use 2 4K screens with different scaling. I am unable to display the bug through the link in your post.

Windows 10 Version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1055) and Fences 3.10-j73.

If this is a recent issue, its not Fences, its Microsoft.

Fences doesn't always seem to recover from the computer waking up after sleeping. Can't create any new Fences or even draw a rectangle select on the Desktop. I have to force restart explorer.exe in order to regain functionality.

Also, If I do not do this, every so often the desktop flashes by removing the wallpaper, showing the underlying plain color desktop without wallpaper, and then the wallpaper comes back. It seems Fences tries to reinsert itself, but fails?

I'm hoping 3.10 addresses this. Admittedly, this only started happening after a recent Windows Update.  Any clues to resolve?

Thanks.

This beta completely destroy my fence. Explorer simply crash 3 times and the software is disabled after that. If I try to reenable it, it do the same thing.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more on your system.

  1. Windows version. Use Winver.exe to get full Windows version numbers.
  2. Did previous Fences version work on this system.
  3. Have you tried rebooting.

Thanks

I tried to uninstall reinstal, I tried to remove my settings in appdata. Nothing can make your new beta version working.

I am unsure why this is getting missed:

As I said the new stardock version won't work at all just crashing non-stop explorer and the legacy version is still working. it's not a problem this the taskbar widget.

Hello there!

Most of the DLLs in the Beta (and also in the 3.09) use expired code-signing and/or Timestamping certificats.

That's why the whole program does not start anymore on my company's PC. Is there a hidden  switch to skip the check?

Code: xml
  1. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  2. 000423EFX - FencesUI End - /regpatch 00047E83X - FencesUI Start - /pulse
  3. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  4. Version: 3.1.0.5 Timestamp: 22.04.2021 14:46:15 Exception: Der Typeninitialisierer für "A.A" hat eine Ausnahme verursacht.
  5. Inner Exception: Unable to verify digital signature for C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Fences\SdAppServices_x64.dll Stack Trace: bei A.A.A(Int32 , String , String , String ) bei DesktopDockUI.Program.MainReal(String[] args) bei DesktopDockUI.Program.Main(String[] args) Stack Trace (inner): bei A.A.k(String )

Not sure where you got that signature but its completely different:

If you are in a corp environment, could it be that they used their own internal cert?

Arrr, stupid Symantec Endpoint protection. I can't do anything about it. But is there a way to turn of the signature checking on Fences-side temporarily?

Stardock Fences 3.1.0.5 running W10x64 always does if I save a new file to the Desktop:

Can you fix this to have new icons being places outside fences rather than behind, please?

The icon should be placed in accordance with the general sorting of the desktop:

Yes, that is clear.

However, it seems that in W10 something goes wrong since I don't have the issue in W7.

Can you test this case internally, please?

I would if it were more clear what is happening...

Could you create a video of what you are doing, what happens, and say what you would expect.

Upload said video to a cloud service (GoogleDrive, YouTube, DropBox, OneDrive, etc) and post a shared link here?

Done: https://dropmefiles.com/1izL8

Please notice that the icon of the downloaded file hides behind the fence right after download.

I gave up on Fences a couple of years ago due to a bug that causes two UAC prompts to pop up every time I boot my computer. If I deny them both, Fences still seems to run OK. Maybe there is functionality that is missing because I deny them. If there is, I haven't noticed.

Anyway, I installed the Fences 3.1 beta hoping that this issue was resolved, but unfortunately it was not. It would be really nice if this could be fixed.

I have tried using the "purge_fences.bat" file as detailed in this post, but it did not help.

I really love the functionality that Fences provides, but this UAC prompt issue has forced me to live without it.

It never was a problem with Fences. Almost every time we see this its because people have Fences to run as admin but should not:

Fences 3.1.0.5 (No object desktop user)

Windows 20H2 Build 19042.985

I updated from 3.09 to 3.1.

I can't move the fences and they do not have the icons to delete

I will remove it and reinstall 3.09

That would be unfortunate as we would like to work through your issue...

If you change your mind, please reinstall and let us know if you still have the issue.
