Is there a Gal Civ 4 in development.?

Like it says. Are you guys working on a Gal Civ IV ?

If so, how is it coming along ?

I would buy it.

They mentioned it in the past. I don’t know if they started it yet.

Thanks Admiral. That is encouraging.

was about to ask same question.  As I don't see any updates on GC3.

At this point it’s galactic civilization 4. All we’re going to see for 3 is patches or dlc. No more expansions. Three is finished.

No, it's not. They might be done working on it but it is not finished. ;-(

I tend to agree the GC3 feels unfinished. Frankly, the game is a hot mess.

Maybe not a hot mess, but there are outstanding issues that need to be resolved, yes.  A few improvements here & there too, I'm making some notes.  If they aren't used for GC3, they could be of sure for a future GC4, provided some of the same game mechanics are used.

If I'm Brad and Co, I'm devoting the vast majority of "GalCiv" worktime to Galactic Civilization IV. Keep up patches for errors and bugs (that is, errors and bugs that Stardock thinks are errors and bugs, see numerous examples of this: bugs that were reported wayback 2016-2017 and have not been fixed, sometimes one person's Bug is another person's WAI/not worth bothering with issue) for GalCiv3 but certainly no more expansions or DLCs.

I recall frogboy posting about what he felt was the frustation of working hard on free patches and that hard work not being appreciated by some members of GalCivIII World. I imagine they're coming to the point where there's going to be a value/benefit trade-off between putting time into work for GalCivIII or leave it - as unfinished/unpolished as most people seem to think it is (I think diplomacy and espionage are still not where they could be, personally) - where it is and start a Founder's campaign to buy in to the development of GalCivIV.

The one big mistake they made - although I really like Citizens as an idea, however imperfect it's implementation - was making massive, serious changes to how the economy worked partway through GalCivIII's life. Stardock need to - once they've decided how certain core areas of GalCivIV are going to work (Economy, Research, etc) - never change those areas. Refine and improve, yes. Once you start on Road 1, by all means expand it with another lane or add some concrete to make it smoother/faster, but don't suddenly dig it up and build Road 2.

if they are working on GalCiv IV already, it makes no sense releasing more content for GC3, I agree.

However, we do not have official confirmation, so I'd still like a few patches, ideally one before Christmas ;) , for some of the longstanding bugs.

As for having people ungrateful, unhappy, I understand his frustration.

I have seen over the years bugs get fixed, just never on players timeframe.

I was a founder for GC3, and it took me +1100 hours for finding "my" star (LiLi) !!!

I am ready to be a founder again , as I am now retired, and can perhaps try to find my new star before my (natural I hope) death.

So, Brad, if you read this, take my pension asap please !!!!! :)

I recall the devs saying that they would still be making updates to GalCiv 2 if it were an easy thing to do. From what I understand, it'll only compile when using a program that only works on Windows XP. These days it means they have to run an emulator to do that, which adds complications.

One thing I'd like to see changed in GC4 is the Metaverse. Either dump the Metaverse ladders entirely, or

(1) Make the scoring system transparent so an average player can understand what goes into a final score and
(2) Eliminate games that are started but never finished.

On (1), as far as I know no one has ever been able to figure out what affects a score in GC3 except for a vague feeling that higher difficulties make for higher scores, and some types of victory (like conquest) produce higher scores than others. In GC2 we had a much better idea of what made for a higher score. If I remember correctly, ships in GC2 had to have at least one point of offense and one point of defense to count towards the military score. I have no idea how that works in GC3. What's worse is that the scoring system changed with Crusade or Intrigue, so many games in the metaverse still have their old system scores.

On (2), as a modder and someone who tries to answer questions on the forums and Discord, I frequently start and then abandon new games to either test a mod or to look up an answer to someone's questions. I really dislike seeing these games cluttering up my metaverse entry. If I recall correctly, one or more of the past GC games had an option to tell it if you were starting a game to be entered into the Metaverse or not. Perhaps I'd like to see that come back.
