My suggestion would be to allow a fence to have a time limit for how long the file(s) have been saved to that location.

Once this time has elapsed set by the user for that fence, then the file gets moved to another fence.

This would be useful for this fence to act as a buffer for files that within the time scale specified instead of sending all new files to one folder as it currently stands.

Here's my original thread to ask if this is possible.

Is there a way to move files within the last x timescale to a fence on the desktop then move to another

As a satisfied customer for Fences 3 on Windows 7, I have just one wish: I want it work and stable on Windows 10 - especially without icons falling out of a rolling up fence. Please make it work on Windows 10 without errors.

Thank you for consideration

Dear Stardock

It's a year and a quarter since you started this thread

In this time of Virus and uncertainty You can happily find the time to Tweet about "Sins of a solar empire" and to send me emails 3 days ago trying to get me to spend money with yourselves for "DeskScapes"....Yet in well over a year you cannot be bothered to make a single reply in this thread to any questions from customers, while still expecting your customers to do your work for you of coming up with new ideas for features for you to sell and make a profit from.

It's clear from this thread that Stardock has absolutely NO interest, concern or consideration in even treating customers with basic respect. Customers clearly exist for Stardock for the 2 sole reasons of extracting money from and to do your job for you of thinking up new features to add and beyond that customers are to be ignored and treated like mushrooms.

I've tried repeatedly asking for you to treat your customers with at the very least, some pretence, that you as a company, have some form of interest / respect for the very people that buy your products and pay your wages, but it's painfully obvious that you simply don't give a damn about the people that keep your company running and making money...  Thus I have no choice other than "vote with my wallet" and I'm no longer purchasing anything or recommending any product from Stardock while this hyper arrogant "we don't care" attitude continues from Stardock

Sincerely yours

Ex Customer

Jaknet,

First, thank you for the feedback.

This thread was started by Brad himself - the owner of Stardock.  I point that out to showcase that Fences is a priority from the top down at Stardock.

While feedback from us to you on any movement for a new version of Fences has been sparse, that silence should not be paired with thinking that Fences has been ignored internally - it has not. I am reviewing this thread right now (as I do often) to ensure I have logged all that could be considered for an update.

While I could lay out some valid reasons for any delay, a primary one is to get it right - to ensure we put out the best Fences we can when it's ready to be seen. Again, your feedback - as asked for here - is vital to that effort and we thank you immensely for it.

Regards,
Sean Drohan

Ok, but sad is that only at this point is here any reply from Stardock.

Like time was going, I began searching for alternative, but found only Cairo... and somethings can be used in Fences.

Else one question to Stardock support:
What with Object Dock? I was trying latest version and I see that development ended at 2014. Since I upgraded to Windows 10 I left it for problems, but now at 1909 update and last installation in January 2020 it works correctly, or I found not yet problems...
Is possible developing of Object Dock bagin again? And of course there can be wishlist too. I learned many things from Winstep Nexus Dock Ultimate and if it will be Object Dock again developed, maybe after any upgrade I will return back...

Basic, mentioned a few times.  Do what you almost do now and do it right.  It is not debugged.  Example: Even with "Fences Locked", icons can move and "hide" elsewhere on the screen.  Example: moving and icon and it may "pair-up" ala quantum particles.  I can move the pair all over the place, pick one place for one and fix the other.      Please make basic product solid before moving on.  If not, new customers will become anti-salesmen, in print as well as person.

Add one word to prior post.  "icons can move SPONTANEOUSLY between startups"  That's just not right.

Dutchman, again."

I have to agree with others here. As a customer, there's a sense of disconnect from Stardock on things we care about. Obviously we can't see you silently reviewing and "logg[ing] all that could be considered", nor can we see what product managers and developers are working on. And Stardock makes little to no effort to keep us informed about plans, target dates or progress.

As a result, from our perspective, most customer feedback is met with:

  1. Silence
  2. A hopeful promise to pass it up the chain (which is all that can be done on the support tier) or
  3. Active resistance

The  problem with #2 comes when months or years go by with no update (as if the suggestions have fallen into a black hole.) As for #3, there are of course ideas that are impractical or impossible to implement. But increasingly it seems more like Stardock has lost interest/enthusiasm for customer ideas and large parts of it's own product line (some of that explained by Windows 10 limitations).

If good things are brewing behind the scenes, why keep customers in darkness? My request for a regularly-updated roadmap is one idea for filling this vacuum.

As a long time customer and watcher of Stardock since 2001 and experience especially in recent years I can tell You what will happen with this request:

NOTHING.

Like hundreds of other good requests here in this forum.

As Sean has stated, Fences updates are a priority for Stardock and I know the information from this thread is being used to guide future development and it is actively monitored.  I think support staff may be unwilling to directly comment on ideas as it could give the wrong idea about what features may or may not be in future updates and wouldn't want to give the wrong idea about ideas or when or if they might happen.

Please also be aware that different projects at Stardock may have different development teams, so getting emails about Deskscapes or newly released apps like SoundPackager or CursorFX4 for example does not mean that resources are being taken away from getting any new Fences updates.

It is worth noting that if Stardock were only interested in peoples wallets, the most logical course of action would be to have never released updates to it and make it 3.0, and then a year later 4.0 for more money, then 5.0 etc.

I am not involved with Fences myself as I work on some of our other software projects like Start10 and Groupy, but generally speaking our applications receive numerous updates over the lifetime of a specific version.  For example Start10 is still getting updates whilst it came out almost 5 years ago, Groupy came out in late 2017 and had an update this year, Deskscapes 8 came out in 2013 and had updates to make it support a number of newer operating systems free of charge.  WindowBlinds 10 came out almost 4 years ago and had an update late last year.

Nothing you have said stops the 30 seconds of actually reassuring people that the feedback is being read.... This is the issue, not a single comment of even "cheers for the ideas".

Apparently Stardock is Damned if they do, or Damed if they don't in your small world. I've read Sean's, and Neil's response, and I get it, it appears you don't, do you want them to hold your hand and tell you every step they are doing during development, oh, it's recognition you want, you want a pat on the head, and be told what a good little person you are, how quaint, grow up!

People have been asking for months if the feedback is even being read and not a single comment from Stardock that anyone from the company is even reading this thread.

Now, I'm not saying that the customer is wrong, only that you appear to be on this point.

Here's the gist of 'not a single comment from Stardock that anyone from the company is even reading this thread'

#1 = CEO Stardock

#4, #30, #143 = me [Admin]

#9, #42, #102, #156, #160, #161, #181 = various Stardock Support

#188 = Software Designer [Stardock].

The Users'/Customers' enthusiasm and/or eagerness to see new implementations/updates doesn't always match the software's development timeline, often leading to frustration and/or disappointment.

But the reality is [as shown above, and not withstanding any logs of who has read what - when, and how many times] that Stardock has been more present in this thread than newcomers are being led to believe.

Just to add....I, too, am anxiously waiting for what will come with V4 ....;)

And there it is, the rude 'Shut your mouth and go away!' wannabe defending post every criticism of Stardock ends with sooner or later. Was waiting for this.

THIS tells you that this forum thread is being read by Stardock and Stardock Support.

Every time you see this logo, it means a person from Stardock has seen and responded.  Hopefully you get it now.

Carl, as we old timers have learned, if Stardock makes a statement as to if and when something gets done, as in an expected date, then if the date is missed, or the issue takes longer to fix, all they hear is, "Well, back on yada yada you said it would be ready for realease by yada yada."  This can get old.  They do their best fighting the daily changes that Microsoft makes. Don has a point.

Tell me exactly where I said; "Shut your mouth and go away", oh, you're reading in between the lines, making your own inferences, good job, you must be proud of yourself. Ok, I'm done, cause this is getting off topic, but you sir, have a good day, stay safe, and be healthy.

No he has not, as that is not the point of this whole thread. This thread was started 15 MONTHS ago. One could expect some feedback to that in the course of time. Apart from standard support phrases that is.

Rude and uncalled for. I was demoted 2 times for less.

Amazing the customer is wrong yet again, because these people have posted and yet not once has any request from anyone let alone me for info that this is being read has been replied to.
Go back and read reply 193, please.

Ok, back on topic, anyone?

for info that this is being read has been replied to.

I just did...in #191.

Neil Banfield just did in #188

and

sdRohan did in #181.

Again, apologies for the frustration [as evidenced by others' comments], but this is all off-topic.

It's supposed to be a 'wish list' for features in Fences V4, nothing more...;)
