tid242 -- I know your pain. I used to have a very slow internet connection and I know this one would have taken 30-40 minutes to download (at no more than 6 Mbps). I got ticked at Centurylink about it and switched to a cable connection (which I am still not happy with over their IMAP server) and their "at least 60 Mbps" speed got it down in about 3 minutes. Some phone companies just refuse to give those of us in the boonies anywhere near the speed they claim in their TV ads.
hah, nah, I was just making up something to cry about. I have a 100megabit connection, so I grab downloads at about 12 megs/sec. Minneapolis (where I live) has 1gb connections for like $70, but they haven't gotten my neighborhood yet so until then it's "only" 100mb with comcast. We have centurylink here too - but as you've pointed out, they suck. They actually wired my neighborhood with fiber, but it's a lot more expensive than the competing fiber, and they're jerks.
I did have a phone modem back in the day and you're right, that definitely sucked, until I went to college and had a T1 (which was fast then, not so much now..).
Appreciate the compassion tho, +1
