Stardock's Fences is Now Available on Steam

Fences Launches on Steam
Popular Windows desktop organization software is now
available on the ultimate entertainment platform

Get it on Steam Now!

Take control of your cluttered desktop and make way for a clean creative workspace with Fences, the perfect Windows organizational solution. Fences has a little something for everyone: it collects your icons, files, and folders in shaded areas that can be hidden with a simple double-click, and even creates desktop pages you can swipe through for easy sorting.

Creatives will appreciate the extra desktop space created by tucking files away in nearby Fences while they paint, design, edit and more. Project-based files and assets are where they need to be, one click away, exactly when you need them.  Fences can also be dragged anywhere on the desktop, snapped to the sides, spread across multiple pages, or even rolled up with the click of a mouse.

If you stream or create video content, instantly make your desktop viewer friendly by activating Fences to eliminate all icons in an easy double-click. Ready to bring them back to the desktop? Double-click again to make all of your Fences reappear exactly where you left them.

Tired of searching through dozens of icons to find what you need or simply looking for a way to keep your favorite games in an easy-to-find section on your desktop? Then Fences is the tool for you.

Features:

  • Custom-sized shaded areas for organizing your desktop

  • Navigate the folder structure directly from within a fence

  • Roll up fences to the title-bar for cleaner desktops

  • Blur the wallpaper behind fences (Windows 10 only)

  • Double click the desktop to hide/reveal icons

  • Swipe between multiple pages of fences

Technical Features:

  • Define rules for organizing your desktop icons

  • Snapshot fences layout for easy restoration

  • Maintain per-screen resolution or scale fences to screen size

  • Customize icon and fence spacing

  • Scripted install and activation for deploying to multiple PCs

  • Supported OSes: Windows 10/8/7

We're not giving out Steam keys for existing users. I'm not familiar with the other software you mention, but Fences should not have any problems.

I had bought fences on steam, installed on my personal pc.

Now I would like to install in my working laptop, which doesn't allow installation of Steam.

I managed to activate fences in my laptop but I cannot find the activation key as my steam version is automatically activated and doesn't leave me a trail of a user account/product key.

To be clear, steam version did not ask me to login/register because my PC was in trial version, but product is not registered under my e-mail regardless.

Please advise.

The Steam version requires you to have Steam on the machine to install as thats the platform you purchased it from.  No serial number is provided.

Same thing happened here. I remember reading in the steam forums that I would be able to simply register the key since Steam was not being used as DRM. I do not want to install steam in all 5 PCs just to install Fences. Please tell me how to obtain my key and have it registered at your site.

Again, as per steam forum it should be that way.

Tks

If you bought it from Steam, you still have to use Steam to download it.

If you dont' want to install Steam, you can buy it directly from Stardock.

This is why I looked for this info before, but it seems it was not correct at the Steam forum.

One thing I can say, it works without Steam, but install must be through Steam files only, and no connection between the user and Stardock is available, so my license is not visible at Stardock and you don´t know me as customer. And yes I was able to install in a second PC without problems or keys, just install through steam or the steam files.

Thanks

Why is my Steam version asking for a key?

You do not need a product key with the Steam version

It's important that:

-You do not have any other version of the software from any other source (stardock.com for example)

If you do, you need to uninstall that other version

-That you are logged into Steam and not as a 'guest'

-In the install directory, run sassteam.exe and see if you are able to use the product again.

Fences:

\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Fences

-If the above fails, uninstall / reinstall from within Steam (and only from within Steam) and try again.

I was able to successfully install the steam version on my desktop pc but my laptop won't activate.  I have tried the solutions in the FAQ and I have completely uninstalled and reinstallled the application twice with the same result.  It says I have to deactivate the other pc to activate this one.  The steam store says it is usable on 5 concurrent machines.

It is not possible I am afraid.  If you wanted the SD version, it would have to be purchased from the SD store.

What's the difference between the latest version here in SD, and from Steam?  Any reason to get it from SD instead of Steam?

Also, if I purchase (from either SD or Steam), in how many personal PC's can I install it?

There is no difference other than Steam is required for the Steam version.

The same EULA applies:

Thanks.  Just to clarify, when you say 'Steam is required...', is it only required for first time installation, or do I have to be logged-in into Steam the whole time I'm using my PC (and hence using Fences)?

Also, is this lifetime ownership, or only for the current/limited version?  I'm asking because I read of others owning old versions and buying the newer versions again.  Thanks.

Steam needs to be on the PC but should not need to be running unless you are reinstalling.

Incremental upgrades (1.1, 1.2, etc) are offered with most Stardock software at no charge. Version upgrades (1,2,3) are usually paid upgrades.
