Galactic Civilizations III: Spring is coming

Greetings!

HermesThe team is about to put v1.7 into public beta.  This new version will be the single biggest change to GalCiv that we’ve probably ever made in a .update.

So what’s the big deal with 1.7? We’re redoing the way starbases are managed.  Starting with 1.7, players can click on a starbase, choose what they want to build and then send out an order to the shipyards that sponsor them and mini-constructors will be produced and automatically sent to the starbase.

Obviously, that’s not the only change in 1.7 but that’s certainly the headline.  More sorting options for ships, general AI improvements, some multiplayer love, and lots of other goodies are part of 1.7.

So the first beta will be this week.

New starbases/mini-constructor sounds interesting. I'm forseeing a micro/macro nightmare is about to be unleashed, but I'll wait to see what you come up with.

I know I am kind of annoying, but will the new administration system be in? :)

BTW Will the mini-constructors be destroyable? How about similar system for trade routes, aka GalcivII?

Nice timing.  I just got my new rig and now I will have a great excuse to "break it in".  I like everything mentioned, but I will emphasize "general AI improvements" as my primary trigger for celebration.  AI improvement is slow, grinding, delayed-gratification work.  It deserves to be credited and lauded.  Well done!  Stardock in general and Brad in particular deserve to be acknowledged for this level of support and continued development.   Thanks!

Let me be the first to ask:  Is the beta out yet?  :)

Seriously, thanks for the news.

Keen, those buttons will finally work!

Cool, wasn't expecting this so soon. I'm ready when you are! ;)

Awesome!

Also, Frogboy will the issues with ideology points be fixed? I noticed that now they don't panelize the player like before but they don't affect the AI either (ex. 25% hit points to race in my territory.  It doesn't not take away HP from my ships but it doesn't also take them away form AI.

Also annoying bug I noticed again is incorrect power calculation.  Suddenly my power points dropped to 0.  I submitted ticket about those bugs some time ago.  Thx.

Brad is CEO yes but if the beta is not ready its not ready. Clearly Paul and the engineers said they need a bit more time. Its all good.

If the software isn't really ready, not even the great and powerful CEO can make it ready by saying so.  A lot of CEOs out there have had to learn that bitter lesson.  The smart ones try to avoid having to learn it over and over again.  ;)

I am still working on pretending to be patient, though.  I think I am getting better, but no one seems to be fooled.

I'll look into it. I thought it would have gone up today. I'm at Stardock Towson (Maryland) finishing Ashes of the Singularity. I'll find out where we're at.

Even if we don't get the beta, it is great to get updates.  Thanks!

This is an AMAZING update.
75%+ of the time I spend ingame is on creating constructors and sending them to starbases since the "request constructor" button doesn't work 4 out of 5 times.

Since you are trying to remove this unnecessary micromanagement can I please ask for one more thing...

Under the "Govern" menu (top of the screen), create a new tab called Starbases.
Here you should be able to see a sort of matrix with checkboxes showing which starbase already has which improvement and how many constructors are on the way, sortable by Mining, eco, military and so on.

I've made a little example of this:
http://snag.gy/Dwb3t.jpg

If we could build modules directly from this tab, that would be amazing. I'm always playing on Insane maps, you can imagine how many starbases I have to deal with.

Also, please make these buttons (Govern) bindable and so that we can scroll through planets/starbases with the scrollwheel or left/right arrow (keyboard) instead of having to click the left/right arrows at the top of the screen.

Ok, I better stop before I turn this into a massive wall of text.

Really looking forward to 1.7.
