FOUNDERS: Mercenaries BETA

FOUNDERS: Mercenaries BETA

Ok everyone.

If you're a Founder Elite, you should now (I hope) have the Mercenaries expansion added to your Steam account.  We've not done this before so let's try this and see.

Go to your GalCiv III item in Steam, right click and go to betas.

Type: ToriansArceansMercs as the password.

This should unlock the beta of 1.6 which enables Mercenaries. Maybe.

Let me know if this works.

NOTE: ENGLISH ONLY!!!!!

Is it WAD that mercenary survey ships do not have extended sensor range?  I keep picking them up with as much sensor range as a warship from a shipyard.

My question is having the mercs dlc can I just uninstall the beta but still have mercs.

Nice to see Torians back. I would recommend a super instigator that keeps game from being boring. They need to be better tacticians though.

I don't think that the transport thing is a deal considering their are 61 majors on the game. If the game crashes with 81 factions plus minors it's not because you reached a hard limit. It's because you don't have the resources to play that many factions.

How come I can't get rid of my factions after I unsubscribe them even after several resets.

I noticed this as well in the Campaign.  Didn't exactly thrill me hat a ship devoted to scouting had no sensor range whatsoever. ;p

I don't know who you are quoting here, however, if you are quoting me with 83 factions compared to 82 factions plus minor factions, than no it's not a resource issue.  My computer is no where near minimum system specs.  Even with that said if that is an issue in the game where one is unable to play X number of factions because of their system than the game should hard cap that player to prevent crash.  Having the game allow this to happen shouldn't be.

You may need to delete them in the factions folder found in My Documents/My Games/GalCiv3/Factions   folder.

Are you saying that you went back to the live build and you still have the mercs?  Or did you uncheck the mercs from the DLC panel steam and restart the game.

A side note: I know that this is probably quite low on the priority list (mine as well!), but will there be new achievements for Mercenaries? Like finishing the game with Torians and Arceans, finishing the campaign, hiring first mercenary, using mercenary to colonize etc...

++ to this.  Was wondering the same thing.

Possible other cheevos

Wipe out a mercenary

Buy all mercaries in a tier

Buy all mercaries in the game (completionists only ;P)

Tastes Like Chicken (Conquer the Torians as the Drengin)

TASTE THIS! (Conquer the Drengin as the Torians)

And so forth. :)

Hi guys,

Phew. Sigh of relief that people like the expansion.   Remember that this shouldn't be discussed yet generally since only Founders and reviewers have access to this.

Regarding the Invader mercenary.  The whole point of him is you can hire him early IF you find the mercenaries, get the money and get the two key resources.   If you can do that, then by all means, eradicate an opponent.  There's nothing wrong with doing that.

If I were to suggest a balance it would be that unprovoked attacks like that should carry a very nasty diplomatic penalty with other civilizations.

The original design was for it to have extended life support range.  However, based on your feedback, we given them a boost to sensor range as well.

I hope it was okay that I posted mine in the founders portion of the forum, assuming only founders have access to read this?

Perhaps some posts of bugs and glitches posted in the General forum should be moved to the Founders forum......

Just got a reply from development team. Menu crash issue has been resolved on their internal build.

Game crashes when starting a game with 82 AI factions in game plus all minor factions.  Game starts fine playing with 80 AI factions.  If it's a limit of player issue there should be a hard cap preventing one from crossing the max number....  I created a ticket with the attached debug file, unfortunately no saved game as the game never started.

FWIW, I'm experiencing the exact same issue when I select a 78th AI opponent. It crashes to desktop during the map generation stage. I turned off minors, for what it's worth.

Pre 1.6/M I had no issues selecting 99 opponents with minors set to abundant.

Since Seilore has already sent in a ticket on this, I haven't.  But if SD wants, I can send in one as well.

NB:  Yes, my system is more than powerful to handle 100 total factions. ;)

We have a fix.  It won't make the next build, but it will be in the after that.

I finally got around to starting a new game late last night (been to preoccupied playing XCOM2) and just finished work and was thinking of playing a bit more when I noticed there was a download of some 163.2MB today. What does this do? Should I start a completely new game because of this download or will it just tweak what I already have gotten? Thanks for any info you can give!

Any data related changes would only apply if you start a new game.  So things like tech trees, ship abilities, etc.

FYI here's a list of the changes:

I tried the expansion earlier today. Fun ! Good work folks! The mercs can REALLY change a terrible situation to a good one, and vice versa. Its like poker with a wild card in the deck.
