FOUNDERS: Mercenaries BETA

Ok everyone.

If you're a Founder Elite, you should now (I hope) have the Mercenaries expansion added to your Steam account.  We've not done this before so let's try this and see.

Go to your GalCiv III item in Steam, right click and go to betas.

Type: ToriansArceansMercs as the password.

This should unlock the beta of 1.6 which enables Mercenaries. Maybe.

Let me know if this works.

NOTE: ENGLISH ONLY!!!!!

Just tried playing my first game of 1.6, and tried setting in game options in the escape menu, and it crashed on me when I selected options.

The Yor survey ship Moves three parsecs a turn while the Terrans move four parsecs a turn, and the Yor survey ship has 100 hit points while the Terrans has 105 hit points starting. Was that intentional.

Seems to be crashing when I load a saved game inside a game.

Why are Snathi minor, and a major species unless one negates the other.

Does it crash for you every time you open the options or just the first time?  Can you submit a ticket (https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit) with the save game that crash attached so we can take a look?  Thank you!

Is the restriction of one per ship for aquatic life support modules* for Torian/Aquatic factions ship intentional?  Seems a bit harsh for them, especially on larger maps.

* Though one can still stack aquatic life support modules, they just have to be of a different type.

*checks a bit more*

Ah. I suppose it is a bit of a balancing thing for the faction overall since they get Ultimate Adaptability (+25% Raw Production/Morale/Tourism) for Aquatic Planets on Turn 1.

Still, I think I can hear the muttering already. ;)

There is a display bug in the Economy tab of the Govern screen, there is no final value for Treasury. Look at this picture.

I'm liking the mercenaries. Though I would prefer in the Bazaar for the locked ones to be hidden until the appropriate tech age has been reached.

Did you get your free merc in the campaign as the Torians?  I don't think I received one.  At least I can't find a "Commander Wassaloo" anywhere in my ship listings.

EDIT:::

Ah, I see.  I get him on the next turn.  Bit of a logic problem then in the description as I get asked how he is doing for me before I even get him. :p

Didn't start the campaign. Went directly to the sandbox.

Had a quick look around in it.  Liking what I saw, have some questions about how the Bazaar will play on the larger maps, but there are some interesting Mercs (design and ability-wise) in there.  Liking the look of the Torians and Arceans and excited to go through the new ship parts.  From this initial look the only thing I immediately felt disappointed by was the campaign, which is quite niche in itself so might not really be something many others, maybe even the majority, care about.

Anyway, only spent 30 mins having a look so I'm looking forward to giving it a proper bash (though I think two issues I've been bringing up for multiple updates now are still not fixed, but that's a 1.6 thing not something related directly to the expac).

What's are the two issues you are referring to?

What did you find disappointing about the campaign?

Feeling a bit underwhelmed right now...

Let me play more, but this doesn't really feel all that great as it stands now. Played the last hour and really don't see much that mercs does to make the game better...just different.

I experienced a turn freeze in game, (single player) I will post my debug.err file and create support ticket a little later.

Started new game there after, first planet colonized, got the pop-up letting me know this was the first planet, however, I didn't get any ideology choices.  (Torians)

In your screen, the weekly income minus weekly expenses seem to be adding up correctly.  Can you explain what you are not seeing and/or expecting to see?

Can you post the save game for the stuck turn?

Was it "Pearl", the little planet next to your homeworld?  If so, similar to other factions, the Torians don't get a ideology choice on the other planet in their starting system.

That particular image is from 1.5, and the glaring problem, 4655 from Treaty Revenue, hasn't been seen so far. But my problem is on the last field, Treasury.

Treasury

Net Weekly Income     14

Treasury                4669

                        Missing - should be 4655

I can take a new screenshot tomorrow if this isn't clear enough.

Unfortunately I didn't have a saved game for that game as I didn't have auto save enabled...  :(  Auto save has been enabled now...  Understood on the ideology choice.

Also are we able to stream Mercenaries?

Could you make Pearl not a Water planet: All other little planets are colonizable by everyone so the Torians can miss out an enemy colonizing that planet (and then getting it for free). Well it's only fair! ;p

I would be against this only because it being a water planet lets the Torians use their +25% Raw Production/Morale/Tourism bonus on the planet.  Since they're getting put at an disadvantage in regards to life support modules, taking away an actually decent planet at the start is a bridge too far, IMO.

...

Now if they got rid of the life support limitation, I'll be right there with you. ;)

So, I see that the Korx are not a playable race. Do they and mercs appear in a regular game (not campaign)?

The Mercenaries are hirable in sandbox games yes. But the Korx are not a playable race.

I have yet to be able to delve in with the Mercs expansion added today, but its my understanding the Korx /are/ the Mercs -- or more accurately, the Mercenary tradesmen, roughly analogous to the Ferengi in Star Trek Armada II -- a 'neutral' faction somewhat similar to pirates, but not really in it to 'steal' so much as deal with everyone with no loyalty or diplomacy.

I made a custom aquatic race, and I don't have aquatic life support modules, but I did get the +25% to my home planets.  When I swapped to the Torian tech tree I got Aquatic Support.

Yes, I suppose I should have clarified and said "use Torian tech tree".  Does seem to be a bit of an interesting loophole for anyone that uses Aquatic as a trait then.

You know, I just had something of an evil thought.  I wonder just how the Snathi Scavenger ability will work when they attack mercenaries.

Even if I have to pay the resource "upkeep" for the merc (and I don't know if I do or not), I like to think of it as them buying my future mercs for me!  }:)

Also makes me wonder what happens when one buys a merc via the Trade window and if they can be upgraded or not.

So so so many avenues to look to exploit see if they work or not. ;P
