If it is so inter-twined with the operating system, maybe it is better not to use it.

Whats interesting is that Virtual Customs has released full win10 themes that skin it all.. They have to be manually installed but work none the less. It seems that if the taskbar is the issue it should have been fixed long ago. I realize there is a lot to the blinds package, but as a dev I would have been working it throughout the beta so as to be ready when it rtmed.

If one guy can figure it out you would think a team of devs would be way ahead of the game once 10 got here.

i found a virtual custom themes site but the only thing windows 10 related is a basic theme for windows 10.besides you do realize windowblinds can create animations in the menus on their themes if working properly.wondering if youve ever used windowblinds cause honestly it goes beyond most themers can do,js

Did a bit of a trial with Win 10 a couple of weeks back & noticed all was not well with WB, so as it's a choice at the moment between Win 10 or WB, blinds wins hands down so I'll stick with Win 7 until WB for 10 is complete. Can I assume that Iconpackager will be updated too? My life isn't complete without my PC's adorned with Stardock products & I'm happy to wait until WB for 10 is finished without smashing up my dolls house.

O:)

If you read reply #46 (which is what you seem to be basing your assumptions on) you'll see that Neil was replying to someone who has WB 8 installed on Windows 10. Nowhere has it been stated that they haven't figured out how to skin the taskbar or that they have any problems at all. My guess is, they have a working version of WB for Windows 10, but it's not quite ready for public release.

2 of 3 is 100% correct. Patience everyone. I'm sure it is a hard task to get it all correct. SD said it will come and it will come.

Hope you guys are getting to ready. Win 10 pretty much makes me happy and I want to resubscribe when you have something for WB. It's been my favorite product since XP.

Think of it this way...when WB 10 gets here it'll put MS's GUI to shame.

On every new release of Windows we seem to have 100+ discussions and topics about the question when will it be compatible- ready, and various problems.
While it makes WC bloom up it might be better to open a sticky upfront informing the friendly customers.
Qnly questions i ask myself over and over is will it be able to skin the whole GUI of windows10, or will the startmenu only be skinned if you have start10 installed and if so, will it be able to cover animations?

It very well may be that if Win 10 is going to be constantly evolving (changing) then that might mean that SD programs will have to do the same. Like playing catch up. Fix one thing only to have MS change up again and back to square one. I wonder how other devs who do third party proggies for windows (iTunes for one) are going to feel about that. If it was me I'd be pissed. Seriously....how freakin' stupid can MS possibly be. Stupid question, I know.

Microsoft are NOT going to be continuously changing everything all the time. Some things will change from time to time, to fix bugs, add features, comply with changing industry standards and interfaces (APIs), etc. I started with IBM in 1970, and change has been constant (sometimes dramatic), that's life! Microsoft is pretty good at maintaining backwards compatibility, but this can put a brake on change for the better so it's a two-edged sword.

I didn't say everything, change is good, when it works. like someone once said..."If it ain't fix, no broke it!" Keep what works and 86 what doesn't or at the very least make them more compatible with what Joe schmoe has. You know...the ones who can't afford every new toy that comes along.

Uvah they did do that... take a look at windows8 it even ran on such old hardware that cannot be found normally anymore, one would need to send out an archeologic expedition to search for electronics that old with only small chance of success finding such.

Disagreeing with some of the people here about change, I am very happy that WindowsBlinds is in the works for Windows 10, because I miss the older graphical styles. The newer designs of software out today lacks of color and appears flat, so I explore the latest releases of Stardock from time to time, because they are still one of the few companies that still uses their OWN style, yet stays true to what is present. These flat products that are trending just doesn't sell for me. I am constantly looking up alternative software and websites that still has a more stylish look and that looks less mobil-ish and more computer-ish.

So in short, I'll definitely be trying out WindowsBlinds when it is ready. I need more realism in my computer life.

I concur 100%.  I know flat design is easy and universal. People like simplistic lately.  I prefer the aero designs and bells and whistles.

This was from the Stardock email 29th September, showing the Windows 10 compatible apps, looking at this I think that we can expect Windows 10 support for Windowblinds in the very near future.

if I remember correctly it was between 4&6 months after Windows 8 was released when Windowsblind 8 went public beta.  May want to grab an oxygen tank. It may be a while still.

Okay, I know I am going to get lambasted for this, but I'd like to share this anyway.  First let me say, that I am using Windowblinds 8 on Windows 10.  I've found the right combination of settings and skin to make it workable for me.  There are issues but I can live with them.  The reason for this post is to address the "free upgrade" status, when a Windowblinds 10 is released.

On July 29th, the very same day the official Windows 10 OS was released, I purchased Windowblinds 8.  I had read the compatibility list and saw that Windows 10 was not listed.  But I think most companies have a bit of a lag time between program changes and marketing updates on the Website.  At that time, the official description did NOT say that it didn't support Windows 10, and there were a lot of posts in the forums about people who did have it working.  Albeit to varying degrees.

I could not even get it to install, so I opened an official support ticket.  All of my communications were with the same person in support, so none of this is a miscommunication between different staffers, but I'd rather not give the name of the individual.  On August 3rd, I got my first response from Stardock:

Please view the forum post below for the most up to date list of compatible applications with Windows 10:
https://forums.stardock.com/469435/page/1/
Please let me know if you have any further questions/concerns.

I wrote back asking three questions.  Below are questions and Stardock's response:

'1. Jafo said officially that Stardock does have plans to make a version of Windowblinds, which is compatible with Windows 10. Is that correct?'

No, it is not.

'2. Will it be a free update to current subscribers of Windowblinds 8? In particular, since I just bought it.'

Unknown but likely free for recent purchasers.

'3. Would it be best to request a refund on Windowblinds 8, and just buy Windowblinds 10 when it is released, or just leave things as they are, and hope that it will be a free upgrade for those who bought it after July 29th?'

That would be up to you. We are working on WB for Win10 but I dont have an exact time when it will be available.

I wrote back on the online form, and this time Stardock's responses did not include a copy of my questions, except for the first one.  So I will have to paraphrase them from memory:

Douglas,

'Since there is no official plans to make a Windowblinds for Windows 10'

Again, that is not the case. There are indeed plans; just no definitive release date.

Please Note in the email above, when I asked about Jafo's statement that "officially that Stardock does have plans to make a version of Windowblinds, which is compatible with Windows 10. Is that correct?" He said, "No, it is not".  Now when I repeat his statement that there is no official plans, he says that is not correct.

I had stated that although I had been an Object Desktop subscriber for well over a decade, I didn't renew this time because I didn't feel enough of the apps supported Windows 10, to justify it.  That was why I purchased Windowblinds separately.  I said that if it was going to take a long time for a Windowblinds 10 to be released, it would make more sense for me to get a refund in my 30 day money back window, and then repurchase Windowblinds when it was released.

As for your other concern, there are many member applications that work with Windows10 that fortify the legitimacy of the cost of any subscription. Also, we do not expect any non-certified apps to to take any extended period of time to make them Win10 ready. At this early stage, we do not plan to scrutinize any value loss from the OD subscription.

Please let us know if you should have any further questions/concerns.

That brings us back to the gist of this thread about the release of a version of Windowblinds compatible with Windows 10 relatively soon.  I took the statement "Also, we do not expect any non-certified apps to to take any extended period of time to make them Win10 ready" to be a time less than two or three months.  Even if I do get a free upgrade, which would surprise me, the remainder of the subscription would be 9 months.  So I would have been wiser to ignore the advice about not taking any extended period of time, and gotten the refund.  Then repurchase Windowblinds and get a full year of updates.

Let me say that I truly love Stardock desktop modification applications.  I've been using them for just under 15 years, and have made a few skins myself.  I even got a Customer Loyalty badge from Stardock.  I have just found the rollout of this upcoming version of Windowblinds and the company's responses confusing.  Do you think they will give free upgrades for purchases going back three months?  Even if they do not, I will still buy it again.  I just think there is a lot of room for improvement here, and I wanted to give the specifics.  I hope this is taken as constructive criticism, rather than an attack.

WB is only $9.99 that around £6.50 to me, about enough for a pint of beer & a couple of bags of peanuts, Stardock aren't the only company that have had issues with 10 either.  Several have  had to make significant changes to software & then had to change again & again - Malwarebytes version that is fully compatible with Win 10 is still in Beta as I'm testing it.

I've been using a beta version of ESET AV for some time, in fact the licence ran out before ESET was compatible, I actually ended using Trend AV for a while due to issues with ESET & 10, that's how it is when you change operating systems, (always has been for me since Win 3.0 anyway) if you don't like that wait six months or so?

I hope others don't quote each & every word I utter as written in stone esp when a project is underway - I think they (Stardock) are doing the best they can & certainly for me the last thing I want is an unstable half baked product running on my PC's - Actually Start 10 is pretty amazing & does make some cosmetic changes to 10 apart from an alternative Start Menu(s) I have no problem whatsoever in waiting until WB for 10 is finished - Expect them to say it will be released when it's finished in future - That my usual answer if I'm being harassed over a difficult project.

NetBadger, it sounds like there has been some misunderstanding. Stardock was not lying to you in your first question when they said no to the plans of making Windows Blinds for Windows 10. Because of the notice on the webpage that Windows 10 support is coming, and because of what the second employee told you, that first employee could've made a mistake or thought you were asking for an official release. I don't believe they intentionally gave you the wrong information.

As for purchasing Windows Blinds 8, I guess from now on, just be careful with what you read. It says right on their webpage that Windows 8 is the latest compatible operating system. I purchased Start8 for Windows 8, and then I purchased Start10 when Windows 10 came out. Most programs cost money, and most updates cost money. Stardock's payment terms are pretty clear.

Hi marly4, it was the same Stardock employee, not two different ones.  I fully agree that I should not have assumed that Stardock had not brought the information up to date on the Website, just because most companies do.  And as paultrolley said, we are only talking about $10 here, so it isn't a big deal financially.  I bought Start 10, and will get Windowblinds 10 whether it is free or I pay for it.

I am just trying to point out that the rollout of what used to be one of their flagship products, could be handled a little better.  Maybe when it comes to Windowblinds 11, it may be smoother.  I just thought rather than talk in generalizations, having the specifics might be useful.
