Scentific Tutorial

I swear I cannot win this tutorial.  My last game.  I bought out two of my rivals, but the last one bought me out.  We were neck in neck on stock prices. I believe they had the advantage with the rocket which likely allowed them to rack in the cash to buy me out.  It was certainly a intense game.  While I appreciate that the AI is tough (or I really suck :D ), it might be good to made the scientific tutorial a bit easier. :D

 

Anyway, Great Job with game!  Helluva lot of fun!

I also found scientific to be difficult... at first. Expansive gets extra claims and reduced steel requirements. Robotic has reduced resource needs, just power, aluminum, iron, steel, and electronics. Scavenger needs carbon instead of steel, which removes the need for some claims for steel mills.

Scientific is a little different. They get to skip some mining steps as their buildings can mine for their own needs. For instance, a glass furnace can mine its own silicon. However, it still need oxygen to be delivered, a step that might be what confuses some people. Many buildings can't rely on just 1 resource, so this perk does seem limited. Another perk that scientific has is it can research faster, which requires some extra attention and focus to pull off as it is easy to ignore research. Also, it isn't any cheaper to do the research, so like everyone else, money and resources will hold the scientific HQ back in this regard.

Scientific is the hardest colony type to learn. Mechanically they are a bit different, since the desired resource locations are different than the other colonies.

The map that the tutorial starts on is actually brutal for scientific. The resources arent clustered very well so there arent many good locations to throw down groups of  buildings to really take advantage of the scientific perks. I gave it a shot on the map and managed to win, but I wouldn't say it was easy since I had to take advantage of a few tricks.

Hopefully Soren reseeds the map since its not a map that I'd willingly pick scientific on, and I like choosing science.
