Galactic Civilizations III - Beta 4 Patch 1

*** UNRELEASED ***

Fixes

  • Fixed a crash where the star system member list became corrupt (this was the most common crash we had reported and it was difficult to track down, thank you to everyone who submitted crash dumps to help us figure this out)
  • Fixed the Fog of War Miles crash (ie: the immense map crash)
  • Fixed a repeatable end of turn crash
  • Fixed a graphical anomaly when scrolling the mousewheel
  • Fixed an issue that could cause queued improvements not to update if you get the anomaly that finishes production on one of your planets
  • Fixed a crash in the planets summary window from string length on extreme planet bonuses
  • Fixed a bug where missiles could come from the origin (the 0,0,0 coordinate) instead of from star bases and shipyards
  • Fixed an issue where the Diplomacy tech may be unavailable on some tech paths
  • Fixed an issue where star bases don't heal over time

Updates

  • Removed the Yor Assembly project (now handled by the fixed duration projects)
  • Battles automatically starts when the battle viewer opens
  • Battles fast forward to just before the first shot is fired

AI

  • Improved Yor AI for building citizens

Please fix the influence issue.

I talked to Paul and the team about it. We are looking for saves to help figure out what may be going wrong. I'll also ask QA to keep a lookout for it.

Any chance of getting the defense cost reducing techs fixed on this one?  Just need to add a few "-"s and remove a 0 on the tech tree.

I submitted a ticket with a save file showing weird influence WXN-147-98064.

Maybe that will help.

For influence bugs, would beta 4 saves be useful, or do you want beta 4 patch 1 saves? I may not have such saves ready to go, but I do have some old game saves that will likely get such problems. It would be easy to save them after the influence problems show up.

The patch is't released yet, so any saves would be for the current beta 4 update.

The plan is to put it out Thursday as an opt in patch. Then go full public with it next week assuming everything goes well.

Thanks Derek! And thanks dev team! Keep up the great work--the game has been fun for a while, but now it's getting really fun.

My bad. It seems that I missed the part about it being unreleased. I wasted time trying to verify my installation.

In retrospect I made a huge mistake not paying 100$ to be a founder.   Despite the freezes, bugs, etc., the sheer fun of watching this thing come together, not to mention finding out the nature the galciv community and the nature (communication-wise) of the developers is amazing.   If that makes me a fanboy, then mea culpa.

I saved money by waiting for a sale.  For me personally, a bad choice.

^^^^ Great to hear. You should post this over at the steam forums. Personally the Elite Founders was a great deal. For my money I get to be a part of the developement of this game, I get the game, the alpha the Beta and all future expansions and DLC...

Oh yea.!

Removed the Yor Assembly project (now handled by the fixed duration projects)

Please don't do this. I think the assembly project works much better than the Fast Assembly which I find to be very awkward due to the difficulty in controlling the size of your population as well as the difficulty in building population on worlds with a low starting population.

I was thinking of holding off on critiquing the removal the assembly project until I tried this alternative where we do without it. However, I agree with peregrine23. Removing the assembly project and replacing it the fast assembly half-project isn't the answer.

What I think we really need is some mechanism to be notified when a planet is finished assembling its population, and/or the means to put a project after the assembly project so we don't waste production. If the population drops, the assembly project resumes the project after it is put on hold. My solution to date was to put aside 1% of production to assembly so that I get a small and constant growth to my population, yet it is small enough that I wouldn't lose much if my population reaches the limit and I don't notice.

I was afraid of regretting not getting the $100 package, so I did what I had to do to get the $100 together.  I'm so glad I did.  Although I had to sell myself on the street.   8|

I have no excuse.  Although retired, I saved up while working and could easily afford it.   Just brain freeze, I guess.

Yay!  Maybe I'm a glutton for torture but I can never play on smaller maps.  I love immense games!

Did I mess up here? Brad, was I supposed to send you a PM letting you know I was ready? I thought just adding a reply here would suffice but I guess you guys are pretty busy with work and all... Maybe I should have started a new thread? Anyway, I'll pop off a PM just to be sure you know. Thanks. ;)

For some reason I'm not seeing an Opt-In option now for the Betas, hope that's just Steam being weird.
