too many master skins

There are simply too many master skins and too few other skins.  Front skin page.... 2/3 are master?

And for some reason, the windowblind skinners are the majority of the master skinners on wincustomize.  Just look at all the other stardock products that have a lot of skins that are.... free?  Maybe Windowblinds should be free, and stardock could make their money from the subsidizing/distribution of the skins themselves.  I dunno, but I am getting leary of continuing my subscription when I can't find anything useful.  Even the quality of the master skins is often on par somewhat to what was free just a few years ago.  We all know your mileage may vary on some skins due to design flaws, so having them mostly master is kind of scary.  I have heard the argument that the artist should be paid for their work... but these prices are not right.  I have heard the skins are like music, and one would pay for music.  Okay, how about $.99 for a skin, but $4.95-$5.95?  Perhaps more skins would be sold if there price was similar to a song on itunes.  There is something to be said about volume sales.  I would be more willing to purchase them at a song price rather than an album price.

everyone wants stuff for free, so true, guess that will never end.

its like you said, if they dont like it, hit the back button for real.  nowdays i just roll my eyes and make another cup of tea. getting to old for this shit to bother me LOL  plus the new gen are pretty much self proved retards...... ^_^

I'd happily pay more for a skin - $20, even $25, just give me a chance to trial it for 15 minutes to see if I like it.  I realize that's not a very realistic request, but like it or not, not having the opportunity to run a theme through a few paces is a barrier to selling product - at least to this consumer.

Unfortunately there is no way to do a Trial Master Skin MeSleeper, and also unfortunate is that in a lot of cases people are dishonest and wouldn't pay for it anyway. I have seen/had skins put up for sale as a Master Skin, and the very same day show up on WAREZ sites, people giving the skins away to their friends, modifying the skin and putting it up for sale on another site as their own, you name it. Sad, but true, and there is nothing an author can do about it in the end. If one must rely on these sales as part of a way to make a living, they get totally screwed.  :S

 

But if you find an authors work you like, you can be pretty sure you'll their new ones just from the screenshot provided.  :)

So the theme satrter pixel punk has posted similar thread in the past. nice to know. Thx for the information lightstar1.

And we need more skins. Its not that important if they are master or not, but they schould be creative, clean and contain new and also few old working ideas.

To add my 2 cents worth it looks like a clique, where most of the "master skinners" are the same people. IMHO they're getting rewarded for amount not quality.

Of course they are.  They're Masters.  They're Masters for a reason and that reason is always quality.  The Masters have the least amount.
