That was 1960.  To far back to remember.  That was before everything happened.(space program, riots, president  and mlk were killed. VN and the protests)  Guess ya could say it was all quiet and calm.

I was in 8th grade, had a girlfriend named Linda Allen (she was a cutie), had a newspaper delivery route in the morning before school and hand picked cucumbers and tomatoes for a local farmer in the evening. I was also serving in the USAF Auxillary Unit called the Civil Air Patrol, and on November 22nd, 1963 I was deeply saddened by the assassination of JFK.

I can't say for fear of self incrimination. I started early.   :ninja:

It was an Air Force Auxillary Jim, for teens to learn the disciplines of the military and provide public assistance as needed. We also did competition drill, we were even the best in the mid-west at the time. Even flew on a C-119 from Detroit to Ft Wayne once to compete, I'll never forget that, talk about getting sick!  My older brother and I were both in it, he went on to be a Marine and I signed the USAF at age 17, but had to wait until I turned 18 to go active duty.

Ah, sorta like the high school kids doing ROTC?

Started high school...JFK was elected President. Loved fencing, drawing and painting with acrylic...drawing with a rapidograph, going out with Susan Katz.

Makes you think about how easy a life most of us in the west have.
I think it is relative to where you were born and where you live.. We can not choose the place, the family, etc. that we want to be born in.  To me, the girl who hunts with a golden eagle in Mongolia, looks much happier then many teens, both in the past and the present.

Thank you for sharing that, coffeegrinder!!    I missed seeing that when I first commented! o_O

Like RND, very much just self satisfaction, lol. Who was't.

Down side, parents, first divorce, moved out of state with mom, she remarried, divorced and so on.

Got beat up on the bus in texas for being a yankee!

Tried to ride a dirt bike, did a wheely and went into a ditch!

Rode a bike with no seat , just a bar, went over a jump, use your imagination.

Okay, scared you enough!

Ooohhh...that's gotta hurt. Something similar with me only not on a dirt bike. Back in the day we had bikes called trucks because of their heavy frames. Rode down the street on my block not paying attention and rear ended a parked car. Slid off the seat and saw stars!!

I had one of those bikes...the best bike they ever made!  I went flyin down our street, right through the stop sign and took a left. Shortly I heard a siren behind me. Oops...I had a stern talking to by the local cop.  Never went flyin through a stop sign again, bike or car. Lucky for me there was no car coming when I was on my bike and did that stupid stunt!

You could say he does it with feeling. ^_^

BTW, LS, I was also in CAP. I didn't get to fly in anything but we did build a small wind tunnel for models. I ended up enlisting in the Army though, not the USAF.
