Attention Founders - Star naming and special thanks credits

Hey everyone --

Just a quick update that we plan on opening up submission for star names and your name to appear in the special thanks credit on Wednesday, April 2

We were planning on having star names go live on Thursday, but decided to delay it so that Founders could specify their own names as they'd like them to appear in the credits (rather than just pulling your name as it appears in your Stardock account). This way, Founders who would rather have their screen name or forum handle appear in the special thanks section can have that instead of their proper name.

This has been a Very Special Edition of the Galactic Civilizations III Founders' Forum. Thanks for watching, and as always for your awesome support!

how will this happen will we receive a msg or email with a form or similar or will there just be a forum post where we throw out names?

Ahahaha I just heard back from devs, it'll be Wednesday and not Monday. Apologies!

I am the worst.

And no, it'll be a specific form on a webpage we build. We'll send an email to eligible founders to let them know when it's live.

Obviously the star names and credit nick-names are at your approval, but if by the off chance the name is not acceptable is that a lost star name (nick name) altogether or will there be notification to resubmit a name. (No I'm not intentionally going to try to force this to happen, just curious on the what if side of things)

Those will be handled on a case-by-case basis. I encourage everyone to give their submitted names some thought, and maybe tone it down a little if it seems borderline just to avoid any issues.

Of course, none of this prevents you from renaming your planets in multiplayer to things like "lol u jelly ray" and "y u so slow ray" and "sux 2 b ray" when you're out-colonizing the heck out of the game's producer. I can personally confirm that.

How are things like copyright handled? I remember in GalCiv II coming across a star named Hoth. So would Arrakis or Minbar be acceptable? Or not?

Thanks

You'd have to refer to the Trademark office for that. Hoth has a few trademarks but they've expired.

Arrakis/Minbar have no trademarks to speak of.

But its kinda hard to say how those would work.

I'd say if anything 'jumps' out as a violation you should let the devs know.

I don't know why, but I'm skeptical that would be accepted.

I think I've finally decided to go with Useless. I really wish I could use the Buckley idea I posted in the naming topic, but that would have to be programmed into the game specifically and not everyone would get the joke anyway.

I am going to do something more personal.  Our daughter passed in December so I will name my star after her as a tribute to her.  I know this isn't the usual way people go about naming things, but my wife liked the idea.  It is a small way to help us never to forget her.

Surely you can come up with something a bit more creative than copying someone else's work.

Maybe there needs to be a game options to NOT use player created star names.  I'm kinda scared (based on playing lotsa MMORPGs, seeing Steam handles, etc)

We are all lesser with her absence.

I know what losing your children feels like, and I sympathize.

That's really touching dougo, I hope that you and your wife are coping with such a tragic loss.

Fate,

Thank you for all the kind thoughts and words.   It has been tough but we are getting through it.  Doing this is a small remembrance on my part.

Alright, I just got the Founder's Edition on Steam... Now what? My Stardock and Steam emails are different. Is there a code I should get?
