The iPad Air has arrived

I'm typing this on my iPad Air.  So far, big thumbs up.

i had an iPad 3 which is what I used most morning s and evenings to post and respond here.  The air has two major improvements over the 3.  First, it's noticeably lighter which makes holding it much easier.  Second, they shrunk the sides of it which makes it easier to reach the keyboard.  I'm able to yep probably around 50 word per minute on the Air versus maybe 30 on the iPad 3.

if you have an older iPad, I recommend it. I actually chose this over the iPad mini retina and am pleased with that choice.

Reads thread... scratches head.

Anywho, I have an ipad and am looking to upgrade.  Seriously considering picking up the air the week before thanksgiving.  I've got some money earmarked for my nerd adventures... but its xbox one or this... and I need to go with the 32 or 64 gig model.  My 16 gig HD is one of the main reasons I'm looking to drop my original.  I go through data so quickly on that sucker and dislike having to delete this or that to make room... reminds me of old days with computers.

I so wish this forum had a ignore feature. Some people here will always be against me.

As usual I don't understand Jafo. Don't care for his tone.

Kona, Jafo was defending you. Give him a break. Remember our talk.

How about you PM The Monk and Moshi and remind them of our talk.

I said nothing about monk and moshi. I'm talking about what you said about Jafo, when he was defending you.   :\

You have the problem right, you do not understand Jafo. That does not mean he's in the wrong, it means you do not understand.

Anyhooo.

I very much like the iPad Air.  I have lots of other tablets as well and the Air is my favorite thus far.  I also have a Kindle Fire HDX (the one that just started shipping yesterday) on order so I'll let you know how they compare.

What is surprising for me is just how much lighter the Air is than previous iPads.  I do a lot of my surfing in the evening in my comfy chair and I can tell you the weight difference is noticeable.

Sorry about that, Chief .....;)

I really only have too machines...a desktop and a laptop....and rarely use the laptop.

I 'imagine' I may need to get 'something' more portable when I'm heading OS .... back to the US, etc.  Dunno what it'll be....just as long as it has a decent size keyboard....aka something better than a Galaxy S2 ...;)

I rarely use my laptop, or my android tablet either. I hope to get some use out of my iPad.

From what I've read, the Air weighs about 1 pound.  Case w/keyboard roughly same.

I just can't imagine giving up the digitizer & stylus on the GN8.  It makes the tablet way too useful for note taking, brainstorming ideas in a group visually or story-boarding presentations before putting the time into building them, etc.

Plus the size makes it perfect for reading and/or surfing comfortably on the couch.

You really want to make something out of nothing don't you.   Talk shit in threads and you'll be called out on it..........guess you're ignoring that!

I have a first-gen iPad myself and I for one actually like the weight of the device.  It is the aging hardware and the fact that it can't run newer versions of iOS or certain apps that makes me ready to switch.

My main reason for waiting for the Nokia tablet is the fact that I'm hoping for a similar design/form factor to the Lumia and if that's the case I will certainly be happy.  I don't know what the whole 'weight' concern is about, personally I like my phones, tablets etc. to have some heft.  Plus seeing the constantly increasing Nokia-exclusive apps in the store makes me that much more likely to stick with Nokia hardware.  In my opinion their app exclusives alone make them worthy competition.

Apple's intentional obsolescence of devices via software is annoying (can't even get iOS6 on an iPad1 only 3 years old), but that's admittedly one of the reasons I'm getting the Air.

I think I'm going to try to find a sleek case when I get the air then.  Maybe I'll swing by the apple store in advance to get the feel for it.  Honestly, apple "advances" have been both jack and shit in recent years.  Good news - lightweight computer is now more light.  Did it break any of our arms or really wreck or inconvenience us before?  Nope.  There's no true selling point for me in the new features.  That said, I very much dislike the disk space I have on my current ipad.  A new model coming out means I can solve that problem and get slightly improved hardware.  Works for me.

imo, apple has gone to absolute shit for innovation and improvement.  I love their products and would not consider upgrading to solve my minor "ain't got enough disk space" problem unless a new version came out.  That said, it's absolutely wasteful that I can't just upgrade my HD and that be the end of it.  I would, in a heartbeat, ignore this new ipad if I could simply increase disk space like I could on devices 15 years ago.

So, I'll very likely end up with this new ipad and solve my problem.  Maybe they will add a finger print scanner to the ipad... at long last, our demands have been answered.  They make products for people like me that don't terribly mind shelling out some hard earned dough to sort a few of their problems.  I'm just glad they don't actually make "apple tvs."  Imagine folks deciding to buy a new TV every year...

I don't recall talking shit here in this thread. This is all I will say about it to you. From now on I will ignore your comments.

Just went to Best Buy and bought an iPad Air 16gb wifi and a case $699. It's still in the box. I'm writing this on my iPad 1.

Absolutely.  I like my devices to not feel fragile and if that means some extra 'heft' well so be it.
