IE 11 seems twice as fast as 10.

So are you generally happy with 8.1 . would really like your input

To me it looks the same as 8.0. It seems they put more work into the app part of the program and the app store. But I sure they upgraded some of the Windows OS. And they did add IE 11.

Just one short tip for those that upgraded and do not want any syncing done...
check your charmsbar settings / PC settings - these have all been turned on again for me after the update including skydrive stuff.

I just upgraded to 8.1 and it's completely removed my Anti-Virus program!!! Including the set-up.exe in my downloads folder!!!!! Maybe they thought I would use that pathetic Windows Defender.......... yeah right!! :/

I installed it from the app store.

As did I. But for 30 minutes I have been looking at a black screen with a revolving animation and the words, Setting up at 49%.

Still upset that the Live Folders are still set at default.

On hold with MS, the guy on the line hasn't a clue. He's been making me repeat myself and appears to be taking guesses. Sheesh!!

Been stuck for about an hour an 20 minutes, he says wait.

I changed it but it still says This PC in the start menu.

Hmmm, not sure on that one, I was talking about the desktop icon only.

So far it looks like there are a few little bugs. Maybe nothing but...we'll see.

You have to install 8.1 by running the install .exe directly from the hard drive, you cannot run it from an external device or DVD Jim.

Jupp you will need to wait that part takes ages if you have your external drives hooked.
But 40 minutes is weired ... ( if you press the numlock key does the little LED then still turns on and off ? )
If it does the pc is still alive

I ran it from the app store, by it's directions. I wasn't given an exe.

Rolo, I have no led. But the small circle of dots is still animated. I started this install with the reboot it wanted at 12:10, it is now 1:31

Wow this isn't looking so good! please all keep us informed as to all the problems this helps alot of us in determining as how to proceed with the whole process of this divine mess.I know when I upgraded to Windows 7 x64 O.S had to work out alot of bugs to start with i am sure it will all work out in the end at-least I hope !

Just let it run for a little more i also thought the sucker died on me since it took that long...
If you have no LED for your numkey on the keyboard you could listen if the HDD is still working but as far as i know you also use a ssd
so you wont hear shit :D

I would wait a little more... there is always the option to revert if something goes wrong...

OK, 2 hours later, I hit the reset button.

Then I couldn't boot up.

Ran CMD prompt, bootrec.exe /fixmbr, now I'm back up and running.

Crap, on reboot, it won't boot, just a flashing cursor.
