[eMOD] - Republic Gov't and "Carian Republic" Faction v1.5

REPUBLIC FOR LEGENDARY HEROES by D. Elliot Lamb

Part of Between Life and Death

Ever wanted to give the people more of a voice in your channeler's kingdom? Now you can have public forums and a senate. Only one problem...

...A lot less military funding!

This mod introduces the Res Publica faction trait, which jolts your economy at the expense of a strong military. Much higher unrest will disguise the huge economic potential of the Republic. If you can survive the low public support for a military (hint - heroes!), your society will be the envy of Elemental!

INCLUDES:

Carian Faction, with Republic Faction Ability:

-Republic government makes your start very challenging. But the open society of a true republic means if you survive to late game, your economy will be an overwhelming powerhouse!

-Start one difficulty level lower than normal - being a Republic in a kingdom and empire world is hard, and staying alive early game is a challenge. But the Republic is a refreshing new experience!

-Conclaves and Towns have many new economy-boosting improvements. You could almost ignore fortresses altogether!

-Fortresses are still useful, but are weighed down by much greater food, gold, and growth penalties.

-Unique unit designs catered to the Republic economy

-Use the Republic Trait ability in your custom made factions!

Merit Before Blood Ability:

-You can acquire henchmen right from the start. They can be Trogs, Quendar, Tarth or Amarian, regardless of your faction's race type. They might even be non-humanoid!

Who knows what kind of magical potential is hidden out there?

Secret Societies Faction Ability:

-New improvement that juices research but increases faction-wide unrest. Also unlocks two skill books that give experience directly, or up the whole army's xp rate!

-Unique new henchmen (two sets, one set available from the beginning, but also very useful!). Get to Higher Education and you can train these henchmen that turn the savage magic of the Trogs right back against them!

-Use this ability in your custom made factions!

-Includes Level 6 and 7 cities!

I'll give this a shot later.   The more quality factions the better

Yes. Not sure why.

1.) What faction are you playing?

2.) Other mods installed?

EDIT: This bug should now be fixed in v1.1

clicking the hyperlink above that says https://www.dropbox.com/s/m96o72aj179iw5t/republic_1.1.rar actually takes you to the 1.0 download.   I copied and pasted the link you have in the bottom of the post, https://www.dropbox.com/s/6mlpy27imrpyljn/republic_1.1.rar, and it took me to 1.1

Next update, coming soon, fixes balance issues and adds CoS support

Thank you for deciding on eventual CoS support.  I know (from experience) correlating compatibility with other mods typically involves far more work, but when it comes to making a larger mod for any game, implementing compatiblity with the most popular mod whenever possible (CoS in this case) is essential IMO.  And while one shouldn't "expect" such things of a mod author, in this case it's very much appreciated.

I look forward to trying this one out soon!  Sounds very promising.

Totally agree. Heavenfall is a huge help with making it happen, too. Just wish I had more time to finish sooner...

MAJOR UPDATE INCOMING:

I am playtesting the next version of this mod, which is much larger and makes Carian even more distinct and interesting to play, as well as giving them a new faction trait and new henchmen options.

How close to an update and will it support 1.5?

MASSIVE NEW VERSION!

Released 6/25/14

Updated:

Reduced resource bonuses for republic resource structures. So Republics get massive economic boost primarily from only their increased growth rate.

Modified community news pres to give a smaller, but now global unrest bonus

Moved the republic-only buildings for towns and conclaves lower on the tech tree, re-introduced a republic version of the labor guild.

Will re-visit Magistrate towers and Senator's Hall after playing LH v1.7. Probably will make them match the new, lower bell tower and town hall unrest bonuses.

1.41 update coming, new changes to unrest and bow accuracy in LH 1.7 necessitate some re-balancing for fortress improvements.

Updated to 1.42! New structures, re-balancing, more henchmen possibilities. Republic plays very differently from any faction now.

Is this mod compatible with XtraDeconstruct?   I know there was some issue with the Level 6 and 7 cities mod not working properly with Xtra, wasn't sure if the Republic mod had the same problems.

I am not sure about that - I am tempted to say yes, since it doesn't play with city hubs like lvl 6 and 7 city mods did.

Speaking of 6 and 7 not working with Xtra, talking with Primal about fixing that now.

NOT compatible with Xtra Deconstruct. However Primal and I are in discussions on how it might happen.

Now updated with XtraDeconstruct compatibility!

When used with XtraDeconstruct, does it matter that there is overlap between the X D preload and the Republic on the level 6 & 7 city mod? Is the Republic version different and required for the Republic to work properly, or can one of the files be deactivated to reduce system overhead? Thanks!
