What's this, an X game with a passable UI?! Don't believe it until released.

wow...but, does anyone think the graphics of the FPS moving are badly done?

I would like to get this game, but it appears to be steam only. I don't like steam.

well there we go for brad and the 64bit migration.

Now you can have a Universe Out of Memory error. ;)

I personally don't like the direction Rebirth is going. Back to controlling only one ship (albion skunk), and drones are supposed to compensate for role types. I liked the way The Threat, Reunion, TC, and AP allowed you to take control of almost any ship in the game. Being trapped in only one ship seems too restrictive. Sure the eye candy is pretty, but Eye Candy wont compensate for crappy game play if this is the case.

It looks to me like you can drone fly any smaller ship, and park your ass on any bigger ship.  If parking means you can waltz up to the bridge and take command, walla.

I've never had a wish to fly the trade ships, or the battleships.  Have them, hell yes, but not pilot them myself.  I'm more curiously worried as to the changes this means for combat than the changes it means to which ships you can fly.  A great deal of the income from combat was because "pilots" either dropped cargo or bailed ass first into space to keep from dying.  Efficient capping was a skill on it's own.

If all the shit below yours is piloted by a drone, why would the drone surrender it's ship to avoid dying?  If it's not, how would a pilot bail on a "ship" and turn it over as a "drone" to you?  If the ol' boy has a retrieval system for cleaning up after battle that takes care of bringing the captured "ships" onboard, or if they're "drones" then maybe the right damage knocks out the computer and lets you scoop up a quick repair job.  There are solutions to my issues, and it seems crazy that they'd nuke such an integral part of the game.

If they have, it's a lot more realistic than the fleet commander hopping out of his battleship to ride stick in an m5.  Quite possibly a major improvement.

I usually fly M6, or sometimes an M7. Then just give orders to all of my other ships. I agree i wouldn't really want to "fly" a battleship. However, If you can be on a capital ship bridge giving orders, or be a fleet commander in a CIC. Then that is a redeeming quality. My worry is being stuck flying only one ship throughout the entire game like in Beyond the Frontier. The games since The Threat had a great range of freedom of what you can do. Though most probably didnt do it all. Just knowing you can if you want to was enough.

On another note.. If the features in the videos are done right this game can be so "Full of Win"!

I've been playing the other x games and this one looks just great.

I've just bought a new machine and I can't wait to play it. It's going to be so cool.

I too was a bit surprised with the having one ship, but i think all the rest outweigh this.

Disclaimer: I don't wish to be a wet blanket and I am looking forward to this game as much as the rest of you.

Wait a couple weeks/months check Green Man/Amazon/Steam and it will be on sale for 1/2 price or less.  And you will have the benefit of the reviews to help you make an informed decision.  And you will miss any post release patch nonsense.

The only game I buy sight unseen is Sins and Sins DLC.  And I've never been disappointed.

For those of you who disagree; I respect your opinion but I have only three words for you: Legends of Pegasus.

backs out of the room slowly (to play more SOA2)...   *_* :borg:

I'm waiting for after release too, but that's because my internet is shit and downloading the many gigs this game will be would take a couple weeks. :)  I wont have any time to play till the week after it anyway.

And that is a smart rule because today 1 in 20 games comes out bug free. Always smarter to buy it after someone else beta tests the "release" version.

Anyone playing it launch day?  Any initial impressions?

It's... disappointing. You can't give direct orders to your owned ships, the graphics are nice but unoptimized and unequal (characters are plain ugly), some gameplay decisions, such as forcing you to walk in stations again and again, are really questionable. Also, BUGS BUGS BUGS BUGS BUGS !!!!

The campaign is basically unplayable right now unless you're lucky (your trading ship often won't pick up the mission wares).

That's unfortunate, but mirrors what I've seen around the internet.  Sounds like a typical X launch.  I'll give it a few months then.
