Constructor/Starbase bridge for Isolated Starts

Let's say you're in an isolated start.  There's a clump of planets near you, but you're on the corner of the map and there's a big empty gap between you and the rest of the galaxy.

Can you build a constructor and make a starbase in the middle of the gap to bridge your units across to the other side? That way you don't have to waste valuable early research points on an otherwise useless tech of life support.  Furthermore, you can ditch the life support modules on your colony ships and instead outfit them with more ion drives.

This is a viable strat, only issue is maintaining all those star bases when bridging.

Be alert for wormholes!

That is, research sensors, pile on LS onto a constructor and/or colony ship, and send it through.

You will probably end up somewhere useful.  If not, nothing lost.

Yes, you can do this. When determining range, starbases factor into the equation as well much like how planets do. I have in some games used starbases to extend my reach to all four corners of the map before my colonies can extend my range that far. I normally use sensor ships to see whats that far ahead, so I can prioritize and make sure I send my colony ships towards valuable targets.

I wouldn't recommend using starbases to extend your range for all things though. In my gaming philosophy, if you need to use starbases or range modules to attack an enemy, you are trying to fight someone too far away.

Ok.  Thank you.
