So, I have decided to challenge some of my clanmates and other pro players of the community to take *one* new player under their wing and help them get better at sins.  We will look for people who are dedicated and are serious about getting better.  I am not trying to help out every person at once, but rather focus our attentions on one or two people at a time to get them caught up to speed and ready to contribute to 5v5s.

This means each pro takes a player under his wing, and at the very least should:

  1. Shows him "pro" opening, how to take asteroids with only a colony ship
  2. Shows him how to watch replays, who to watch in those replays.
  3. Helps him pick a faction that he is interested in
  4. Answers questions and encourages growth on Steam
  5. Plays 5v5 with them, introduces them to other pro players.
  6. Make sure they have fun and stay committed.

If you are new, or a pro, you can post here to sign up and I'll add you to the list. 

For the new players:

You need to show some commitment and enthusiasm if you expect to be tutored. Every pro has his own standards for accepting an apprentice.  For example, if I have a vacancy, I expect new players to add me on steam after sending me a PM on sins forums notifying me of their interest and steam name.  From there I will conduct a small interview just to get to know them and determine their enthusiasm.  If I like what I hear, I will add them to the list. 

In your post, be sure to include:

  1. Favorite race (if you have one)
  2. Your playstyle (Would you describe yourself as passive, aggressive, or some combination there of?)
  3. Do you have any experience in other RTS before Sins?
  4. What Time Zone you are in
  5. Your Steam name

For the pros:

If you are a pro, you too must be committed to helping a player learn in the long haul, and even if you are bored of sins, you still are around on steam to answer questions when you are playing other games.  Be communicative and encourage them to play sins with you when you are.

I think I'd be interested in this. I've played Sins for a while now (since about 2008, summer of) and I just bought rebellion (steam sale!)  Anyway, here's my stuff:

 

  1. Favorite race: Advent/Tec (Haven't decided rebel/loyalist)
  2. Your playstyle: Pretty passive, I'm not that comfortable with early game...yet (what I hope to get better at)
  3. Do you have any experience in other RTS before Sins: 
  • Dota 2 (ARTS/MOBA), depends on what you like to call it
  • Supreme Commander (Forged Alliance/2)
  • And a couple of games from a long time ago:
  • Warhammer 40k, Dawn of War
  • Rise of nations
  1. What Time Zone you are in: PST, GMT - 8 iirc
  2. Your Steam name: 0ffkilter (it's a zero)

 

I know all of the technical details and mechanics of the game (or maybe I don't, but I think I do...), and I mainly need help with either early game, research order, and skill builds for Capital ships (based on what I've been reading, it's a lot different than I thought it was)

Hi i'm a noob that is getting quite into this game since the christmas deals,
If anybody would be interested in showing me the ropes i'd be very gratefull.

  1. Favorite race: Vasari any/ advent rebels   'not quite sure which one i like the most'
  2. Your playstyle: A big fan of hit and run tactics with a lot of small units ^^ 'love the zerg in Starcraft II for example.
  3. Do you have any experience in other RTS before Sins? Starcraft II and Company Of Heroes
  4. What Time Zone you are in: GMT +1 And i am because of personal life only available on the weekends

I am an active member of the sins community, and would like help gaining acceptance among pros

 4. I try for a sudden burst of military or expansionistic growth right after the early game. I use many drone hosts and discs

1. i play as either advent loyalist or vasari loyalist, and sometimes tec rebel

3. my steam name is Moo Sephei {SoGE}, and i like french silk pie

2. I play sc1 and age of empires 1, 2, & 3

Not very good with sc. i also enjoy anno 2070

I play 3-4 hrs 5-6 days of the week, so you can see me on Ico between 8 pm and 2 am central standard time

I just bought and installed the game yesterday and would love some help from a mentor.  I've gone through all the tutorials, messed around a bit in a test game, and have started watching some guides on YouTube.  However, some things are still not clicking.

  1. Favorite race (if you have one) - Don't have one yet.  Still playing random.
  2. Your playstyle (Would you describe yourself as passive, aggressive, or some combination there of?) - I would adjust the playstyle to the game.
  3. Do you have any experience in other RTS before Sins?  Lots!  I'm an old man in gamer terms and have been playing online competitive games for a VERY long time!  I pick things up really quickly.
  4. What Time Zone you are in - United Kingdom (GMT)
  5. Your Steam name - slowreflex

Apart from a mentor, if someone wants to just help on Steam with questions, etc. then let me know.

We did a 1v1 yesterday.  I talked him through basic early-mid game strategy and had him record the game.  Haven't heard back from him but he seemed ok.  Of course I have no idea yet how much of what I showed him he took to heart.

  1. Favorite race (if you have one)------> My favorite race is TEC because humans are wonderful and so is their story, I play Rebels cause I like to have a big fleet, I like the idea of attacking instead of reforcing.
  2. Your playstyle--------->I don't like defensive, I like to have big fleets, I like to spam at the start of the game, I like to make my enemies territory a place that I will use to win agaisnt the others and starbases are just consequences.

i still want to learn from pros...

especially want to watch and study skilled 1s records and some tricky trick

i always consider 5s is not that much about personal's tech but more about the team and the map

Not sure if I'm qualified but I'd love to help out as a "pro".

I'm obviously not on Doci or Quar's level, but I can definetely get a total noob up in skill level. So add me if you think I'm good enough to mentor some newbs.

Hello My name ig is Blood.Angel i am a new player to sins and i would like to learn how to play this game just like any other good player.
 My favorite race is Tec Rebell i like the faction because u can go either way with it Defensive or agressive.
 Play playstyle is defensive all the way i like to dig in deep and try to beat my opponents with attrition i like to build a really good defence and also build a strong fleet to back up the defences.
 I am GMT +1 I live in france i am available most of the day and i am very dedicated person.

Hi guys, Australian (+10) timezone here!

I am a halfway decent player, can open properly and play all races, but am looking to increase my skill level and actually find more people to play sins with!

  1. Favorite race: AR (but i like cannon rushes with TL, VL mass assailant or planet chomp rush or turtling with AL)
  2. Your playstyle: aggressive, usually using a rush of some kind, tech or simply gunning for a large fleet
  3. Do you have any experience in other RTS before Sins? I play mostly RTS, but dont have anyone to practice with as my friends prefer MOBAs. Therefore I suck.
  4. What Time Zone you are in: +10

I would really like to learn how to get better at this game. I have played the original game and did a few 5s games and one 5ss where i got a lot of help.

 

 

  • Favorite race : My favorite races whould either be AL or VL
  •  I'm more of a passive aggressive i tend to build up a fleet later on and research a lot.
  • Do you have any experience in other RTS before Sins?Yes C&C tiberium wars, kane's whrath, red alert 3/ AOE 3 and 2
  • What Time Zone you are in estern standard time (EST) -5
  • Its either Paradox or alexxo97

 

If find it really hard to deal with Vasari in mid/late game as AL and really hard to deal with TEC as VL in early/mid game

There is just few (read 3-5) old pros who are still playing on the same skill level that they used to.

Rest of us log on every now and then and we are rusty....

Yeah I heard it does. Especially ones that are China vs ICO Skilled. There is huge demand for certain lube these days. But then I guess  ICO regulars have to scrape from the bare bottom to fill their ranks. 

I even heard people who were 3 months ago kicked out of skilled 5s are now champions of first picks.
