[eMod][v 2.4] River City Bridge ...

This adds a new building that provides you +2 food per grain, and is a bridge over a river. Namely you build this on a river tile and it builds a bridge for your city to build on either side of the river.

The river bridge can be built whenever you reach a river from your city (similar to my snaking mod). It is seperate from the snaking mod for piers and lumbercamps. So you can play the original concept with no snaking for piers and lumbcamps and play with this mod that allows for snaking across rivers.

Just unzip the file into your ..\documents\my games\fallen enchantress\mods\ folder.

If you would like to see an alternate version of this where snaking is not allowed. Namely you have to build it next to your city center, let me know and I'll make an alternate version.

Enjoy. Updated with new icons, the icons aren't great but they should work.

This is actually a scenario where I prefer snaking be allowed.

Well done, another vital mod from you!

Edit: Y u no link to download?

I forgot to... but it's now up. :)

A picture for those that want to see... I have a fallen one as well (looks nearly identical)

The .png files need to go into the /Gfx/ folder inside /mods/ to be picked up by the game. I don't think it matters because they'll be hidden by the water anyway. But for the future.

Thanks I'll get that worked around then ;)

really they could put the tiles in the tiles folder and the shadows in the right spot. It would function just the same.

This is great. I just wish the developers would put it in vanilla.

Yeah, I know. But have to start somewhere and then they can gauge popularity and playability from players points of view.

Before anyone asks the bridge is diagonal because of the variety of river styles out there, and I wanted to be able to build it across any river tile and this seemed like a safe bet. Let me know if there are undesirable looks and show me the pics so I can see if I can fix it.

I have updated the files to include new icons that I made. Someday I might improve the icons, but right now I think they will do.

Added to the nexus and wincustomize (waiting for approval).

I have now added under construction tiles for each of the bridges.

nice update :)

a small idea that might fit this mod: there's a river tile with a tree stump across it, could it be changed so that it acts as a bridge for units to pass through? it looks just perfect for river crossing :D

I don't think that would be possible. The terrain is what dictates movement and that terrain is still called river. The tile look is just fluff and can't be called upon for any terrain modifications (that I know of).

Plus, I've seen that log and it is meant to fool you into thinking it is a good crossing. What you don't see is the thin layer of moss that is a treacherous for all who dare climb atop it. ;)

I'm sure I've seen "bridge" tiles on rivers, maybe it's only on stormworld rivers since they're impassable? anyway that particular tile we're talking about could be changed to be a "bridge" tile instead of a "river" tile , it'd be really flavourful :)

Yeah Stormworld has specific terrain for it's bridges and "new" rivers. I don't know if Heavenfall will add support to this new tile. All he would have to do is add the preferred terrain in a seperate file and then that should do the trick.

I would like to be able to make a road that passes through a river tile turn into a bridge instead of not showing up. Although, I'm not sure how I would go about doing that.

Thanks parrottmath for another nice mini-mod.

I would find it helpful if when you update you could include the version numbers in the filename (like you did with the henchwomen mod) so as silly me does not get all confused.  :|   (That's just me trying to figure out where I left my brain...)

I can't do this, sorry. My rivers are functionally very different from the water rivers. If you build an improvement on a magma river, the magma river tile will permanently disappear. For this reason (and others) my rivers cannot be crossed or built upon (the only exception is the world resource that is part of the river).

I will on future updates. The next update would be to have an upgrade system for it. So it moves from a platform bridge to a stone bridge. Makes sense as you upgrade your city that you don't have this makeshift bridge ruining the look of your city ;)

would it be possible to expand this mod to the new stormworld rivers?

parrotmath, how about making a configuration file form Mod Manager?

would make it a lot easier to be able to manage them with that tool.

I have updated to a new version of the river bridge. You can now upgrade the bridge after researching construction to build stone bridges. Adds to your gildar production.

I will look into making this configuration file, but I was waiting for the Mod Manager development to calm down so I can learn some of the syntax.

did you get the chance to take a look if the bridges can be made buildable on stormworld rivers as well? I tried doing it myself but it didn't seem to work :/

A couple of images for you from my game.  I am using version 1 so maybe this is out of date?  You will know.

Firstly on the world map I am getting floating bridge pieces.  See below.  I will update if when I return to the game this fixes itself.  Very much akin to the floating waterfalls everyone was seeing.

I can live with this, it is the functionality I am after, but it would be nice to have pretty pictures as well.  Note also the rocks floating in the river at bottom right.

Could this be because it is the headwaters of the river?

Here's a picture of the cloth map icon of the same bridge.  I know very little about graphics but it seems that the colour and transparency are swapped, or something.  A turn or two later when I looked at the cloth map icon for the same bridge the river made a hole in the middle of the icon but the colour and lack of transparency otherwise remained unchanged.

The picture of the first bridge is a bridge under construction (so they haven't finished the bridge yet and so their are missing pieces). I don't quite see the rocks floating in the river. From my tile design there should be no floating rocks. (If I could get a better angle).

The cloth map picture Icon for under construction I will fix. I forget to work with the transparency.

Thanks for pointing this out.

I have fixed some of the graphical issues on the cloth map images.

Thank you parrottmath.  I saw the bridge complete and you are right, I'm just too hasty sometimes.  Although it was the cloth map icon which triggered me.  As it turns out it was only the 'in construction' icon which was the wrong colour.

Looking forward to my next game and trying out the new and improved 2.1.  :)

No problem. Maybe I should redesign the construction tile so it looks more under construction.

In regards to the icon, I honestly didn't know where that construction icon showed up so thanks for pointing that out to me. (I don't play with the cloth map much)

If you had pedestrians you could see one of them hammering on the bridge, but I'm thinking I'll add a plank that is in the water or a pile of lumber on the tile.
