Problems For Core Mods

Problems For Core Mods

I am getting an annoying problem. I had .983 running fine with all the trees and fonts showing up. The /localdataonly was on, so it should have been reading the local files. When I went to make any changes, they wouldn't show up. I figured that the game must still be reading the server data, so I uninstalled and reinstalled. Now I have my mod showing up, but the fonts and trees are gone.

My new theory is that something in the modded files are screwing with the fonts and trees. But why was the game not reading local data before? I thought .983 would automatically do this.

I tried editing a coreunits.xml and didn't get any changes in game until I moved it to the mod directory. I don't know what is going on with the tree with seanw3.

I couldn't get the changes to stick in game. I just renamed lord relias and didn't see anychanges until I moved it to the mod directory. But if seanw3 can't mod in the forests then there are some issues that needs to be addressed.

That makes no sense. It has always worked this way before. I am having no issues at all and I have made changes to many of the files, coreunits, corespells, coreimprovements, elementaldefs, etc.

I got the core files changes if I run the program in adminstrative mode. It could be because I used the default install path and need admin access for the changes to show up. I just did an experiment and had the changes show up. They remain even if I don't run in admin mode as well :)

I also have to run admin mode in order for my computer to see a change.... seems odd to me, but hey that is how it is...

Seanw3, you could try that if you are running window7 for your trees see if that changes anything.

It isn't odd at all actually. It is probably that the game loads from the file once, unless it is changed, rather then loading from it each time you run the game. Also, many games have issues with the whole administrator thing. So, running it as admin, allowed the game to read your changes. When you originally ran the game, you probably hadn't modded anything yet and so the default files were loaded I guess.

@Parrot - how did you run it in admin mode?

@Black - to test this I copied my modded coreunits.xml from mods and moved it into english folder. I then deleted the mods coreunits.xml, loaded the game up, and my changes aren't showing. Sounds like I need to get this admin mode thing nailed down.

[Edit] Ok, thanks. Figured it out. Admin mode worked for me too, yay! B)

The nice thing is that you only need to run it in admin mode once to get the changes, then you can run it as normal and it will keep the changes.

@seanw3: I found more forest information under /data/english/core tiles/forest/

I think that is where they put the forest tiles together.

The only thing I needed to do was run in administrator mode. I really blame the OS on this one.

I'll add this to the Stormworld wiki for people who are having problems with it.
