Problems For Core Mods

I am getting an annoying problem. I had .983 running fine with all the trees and fonts showing up. The /localdataonly was on, so it should have been reading the local files. When I went to make any changes, they wouldn't show up. I figured that the game must still be reading the server data, so I uninstalled and reinstalled. Now I have my mod showing up, but the fonts and trees are gone.

My new theory is that something in the modded files are screwing with the fonts and trees. But why was the game not reading local data before? I thought .983 would automatically do this.

Actually this is happening to me as well, I reinstalled and noticed just a bit ago my forests and my fonts were gone.

I just reinstalled and had an issue with some of the fonts... a restart of the computer fixed this for me.

I just rebooted and solved the font issue but still no trees.  Any guesses?

The tree issue happened to a few other people as well. I don't think there was a fix to the tree issue, but it seem to resolve itself after a re-install.

I think you need to completely uninstall and then reinstall the game.

Re installing over current install to see if that helps otherwse it will be a wipe and install again I guess.

This is what caused the problem...

I restarted to find the fonts back, but the trees are still gone. I can see them in cloth map only.

I'm glad that you got your fonts back and bummer about the trees. This is really something that needs to be brought up to stardock again, because although it's not a gamebreaker it is really a must have feature for everybody who plays this game.

So Heavenfall suggested that I try to change something small like Relias' name. I still can't accomplish this, could one of you specify a simple tutorial to accomplish this problem because it appears that I can't change anything.

I'll try clearing my screens and hoping for an automatic server update.

I've figured out how to edit and use changes to the core mods. I had to place the changed file in the mods folder in documents

Alanmandragon mentioned doing that as well, but that has not been needed before. I wonder why that is the only thing that works?

I don't know. That is what gave me the idea to try that out and it worked. I directly changed the file before even turned on mods and disconnected my computer from the internet, still no changes. So these .xml's must be hard coded and these files we see are just copies for modders to use. But now I'm just speculating on things I know nothing of, but isn't that what the internet is for ;)

It must not be reading the core files if the core files can be changed and nothing changes. I am guessing that for some reason the core files are being compiled on the first playthrough and then those values are being reused, instead of look at the core files again. If you can do it disconnected from the internets, it must be something like this.

I started my first game this time as a mod and the core files are read now, but that is when the trees and fonts left. It's odd that the fonts are back but the trees are still gone. Where are the tree files?

It's not the coreforests.xml is it?

I suppose you need the coreforestprops.xml

If you are correct that it is using the first compilation to determine base values then a uninstall and reinstall (without mods mind you) will fix your problem. No re-download required.

Those are the references but not the actual graphics.

Then you will find that these references point you to ..\FallenEnchantress\Gfx\HKB\Props

the thumbnails at least show me the trees in the game. The .hkb files must be the 3d rendering for them.

All the references seem to be up to date, so if it tried, it would be calling the right models. No luck there. The issue must be with the actual rendering, but my debug log shows no indication that anything is wrong with the trees.

I wonder if you move the tree files to your mod directory if the game will then read them and render the trees for you. I will laugh if that indeed fixes the problem.

It is odd - I did some simple name editing before I went hogwild with the city defenders just to check it out. Anyway, I edited the corefiles directly and the changes would not take effect. So I copied the corefile, moved to mods, and then my name changes worked.

My core files are reading now, but the trees aren't. I will put all tree data into the mods folder and see what happens.

No luck, still don't get trees.  >:(

Derek never closed the loop on my issue so I don't know how they ended up fixing my deal. Sorry. :S

I am confused. You are editing core files and it isn't working? I have edited several core files and everything is working fine for me in game. No problems with trees either. Also, don't need to use the localdataonly command.
