HF - not sure if it's intended (or needed for the mod) but please note Frostgiant mounts in the Warg Riding tech show duplicates.

It is needed, frost giant army units get slightly different mounts than heroes do in the shop.

Reduced chance of finding an item while wearing Backpack of Useful Things from ~8% to ~2%. It also cannot drop Strong healing potions anymore. 7000 lines of XML for one item, yay.

 

If you're into self-torture, you ought to consider the customer service profession.

HF - is it possible to upgrade the FrostGiant cloak on trained units? I imagine the answer is no because we already currently can't upgrade 3 man parties to 5 but wanted to verify. Thanks.

You can upgrade cloaks for unit designs but not trained units for frost giants.

Thought so, thanks. Just FYI - my current game with your mod and the latest build is THE most fun I've had with this franchise to date. The early game is proving to be extremely dangerous, with multiple battles lost, my original conclave city destroyed, and I can't get the hero steamroll going thus requiring me to train units and supplement my army with beasts using the Frostgiant's beastlord perk. Super fun. Time to put on some Iron Maiden and jam on.

Having monsters see and attack cities changes the whole dynamic of the game. I am having to nerf dozens of goodiehuts to compensate for the speed and ease a single monster army can destroy a civilization. And my mod has city defenses! Played a quick game of Squalworld too and it is looking great. It is a little more difficult than the core game though. Just because you fixed some balance problems.

Crashing every time I've tried to enter a game.  Mod extracted into Mods folder, Use Mods on.  Overwrite TerrainTypes in English. Tried completely wiping all data in Mods folder an trying again, no luck.  Can set up a game, but when I click Play! it's worse than NASCAR.  Ok, maybe not that bad.

Try adding -localdataonly to shortcut

Otherwise play without rivermod.

Yeah, unfortunately when using rivermod my graphics card wouldn't support trees and swamps on the 3d strategic map. It's an older card so has issues. Decided to roll HF's mod without it.

Hi HF - just finished a game with Frostgiants with insane world difficulty and AI expert. Epic early game - tons of fun, lost a city, multiple sov and hero deaths. I see what you mean as being overpowered late game - the trained units were tearing through AI armies. If Brad can get the AI strategic offensive spells working (and AI factions ganging up on me) it would have been more competitive late game. Now on to centaurs! Your faction balance seems fine to me - no input there. Well done.

I'm thinking about an idea that I'd like some feedback on.

A certain other game I enjoy has a feature where some equipment gets an extra bonus for being equipped on a particular champion.

For example, a Death knight might gain an extra bonus from equipping the Fate's Reaper. A Zombie or a Vampire might gain an extra bonus when equipping the Blooddrinker. A Shadow equipping the Helm of Shadows. A Living Stone equipping Of-The-Earth. An Angel equipping the Orb of Justice.

These bonuses would be limited to one or two champions, to indicate a closer connection to the artifact (or simlpy a better understanding of it).

They could also be available for custom sovereigns as a free option where you get to select only one proficiency.

 

The questions are... do you feel that this would be something fun to add to the game? Considering how many magical items there are in the game, your odds of finding a particular one in addition to finding the hero is quite low.

Also, would you feel that this detracts from being able to customize your champions because it sort of pigeon-holes a champion into using an item if you find it?
