Friday Poll: Outlines or No Outlines

By default, Fallen Enchantress draws a black outline around units, buildings, and mountains.

However, if you go into options and click on the video tab, you can choose “disable outlines”.

For those of you who are in the beta, let us know which you like better – with outlines or without outlines.

Woo Hoo, I got first comment.  Outlined lookes so much better.  By the way, when will the next BETA release be?  I was under the assumption it was going to be this week!

I like the option of having the outlines even the though the graphics are pretty sweet sans outlines.  I will often switch back and forth during the course of a game.  Chose to keep them.

The outlines are one of the artistic elements of Elemental that really catches my eye, it is very unique in a game like this! It's consistant, also, with the Loading-screen art and some of the promo art as well, I dunno, it's just super awesome.

I'm not even going to look for the differences. Outlines are the way to go! It gives me that drawn to life, painting feel. FE is never going to be as realistic as Final Fantasy, so why not go for the artistic style?

Keep the choices, then you will only get grumbles, remove choice and get flames etc

I prefer to disable them because at certain zoom levels, they make stuff to look worse to my eye. Plus memory stuff? But I'm not against them being in the game (as option... or disabling them as option).

Sure keep the option of putting outlines around everything.

I'd just prefer the default to be off.

It doesn't work so well when we have light sources and shading on figures.  If you crank the ambient way up then it looks better.. but as it is now it's just visual clutter.  As a visual element the outline is supposed to help differentiate object A from B .. right now it's not doing that, it's like a lens flare for lens flare's sake.

They usually don't remove options.  I think they are trying to decide which to have on by default.

Murteas, that is a pretty cool 'Elemental' Flag ... perhaps a take on the Naga design?

I really think there should be a flag like that

I'd select it for at least one Custom Civ.

Probably this, but also they are probably determining if it's something people like and use. And they need to know THAT because the function has its issues at the moment, so they need to know if it's something to put resources into. For example, a character will have significantly different outlines around him in tactical and strategic mode.

I don't use them, but mainly because my performance isn't all that great.

Looks better with outlines.

Of course, it is probably best to preserve the choices.  But if memory usage becomes a bigger issue in the months ahead (in other words, total memory required keeps getting bigger, because more features are added or enhanced), then I would suggest that turning outlines off should be the default.  Personally, I think it looks just as good with the outlines off.

Looks better with them, plays better without them. The age old question. Best leave it on by default.

No outlines for me. With outlines all look like from some Japanese RPG. It's the first thing I change after install.

I like it best with the outlines.

i can't stand them, so i disable them.

i like both but typically end up going with the no outlines.

O my.... no outlines.  thanks for the tip. haha.

Personally I prefer no outlines, it just looks better.

Just started up a new game purely to toggle the option and on and off a couple times, and I really don't find it makes much difference either way.. So mark me down as indifferent I suppose.

I prefer not outlines due to performance concerns.

I love the outlines and the graphic style of Elemental.

Looking at the poll, it looks like the lurkers prefer the outline at the moment. ^^
