Welcome to Part II of the 'One Piece At A Time' tutorial. This thread will be concentrating on the design of the Title Bars & Window Frames for the Roan Windowblind. Several skinners are helping me through these threads in an effort to understand and learn how to build Windowblinds. (And they would be Vampothika, neone6, and 2of3) Along with a lot of other talented skinners, artists, etc, who have participated with this so far, we're hoping these threads will also help other would be or existing skinners as well. We also have gmc2 sorting through all of the info posted for hte Wincustomize Wiki.

EXAMPLE:

 

For these first few parts, we'll be working on the design of the Roan Windowblinds elements and then bringing them all together and exploring SKS (Skin Studio) where we'll take everything and put it together.

PLEASE :

  • I am open to suggestions but may not use any of them. Please, don't be offended if I don't use yours.
  • Keep the image posting to the skin(s)
  • If you want to make a skin to go with this, PM me for the files. My PSD's tend to be a mess, but I save everything and will be happy to     share. I am uploading the actual files to the Graphics Gallery here on Wincustomize.
  • We'll be skinning for Windows7, maybe Vista. If someone wants to do XP, PM me and I will get you what you need.
  • Any files you request will come as I complete them. I won't be jumping ahead. Please be patient.
  • ;)

OK..... Making a Part Bigger/Wider is all good and it wouldn´t look so bad when stretched one might think, B U T Think of all those times you get a VERY SMALL window/frame/notice...say for a "Yes/No" question... The part will then be compressed to a size Smaller than how you designed it...

This will happen most certain at times anyway, but one would like to reduce the risk of that happenning on relatively medium size windows too. Makes sence ? :\

Yeah, but it all sounds like a win/loose scenario depending on which way you go. ;P

Can´t have that Left field in a gradient -Solid color only X| But that´s in Sks later, not a part of the actual "Frame"

He can if what he's showing is the Control Panel Sidebar.

This is just the 'regular' (?) window frame. I haven't gotten far enough to even know you can skin the control panel differently. ;)

I'm looking round at some other skins and SKS to see what I can do with the window and all it's little elements. (Just got done looking over Steampunk and Fearomone)

It always gets quiet around 6 or so my time.

I think he`s been following one of my WB draft psd`s as a guide, because it looks like how I`d draft the windows :)

For the stuff inside the frame, yes. And I'm guessing some of it would be for XP only? Not sure. I had to go through and mess with my own stuff to bring up some of the bars. I had (embarrassingly) assumed some of that stuff was no longer available on 7.

KInd of stuck on buttons for the menu bar, etc. I assume they all share the same design like the search window?

I'm looking through SKS so I can draft the buttons for this part. The buttons aren't really part of this area except for the per pixel buttons (minimize, max, close).  I think I got ahead of myself here.

Okay - This is the draft for my Window Frame. I still have to do the buttons (min, max, close).

Not wild about them either. Leaning towards what I have right under it in the SS.

I love yours but then I lose the piece on the corner and I kind of like that going across the title bar with the three of them. Now, if I can do them like this...

I like leaving the stitching out if I go this way (top one)

Of course, I have to hear from Zubaz that someone else made the damn buttons and is doing all the work.

Zubaz pm'd me something about Harley's next skin will feature buttons which will be atomic lightning flashing neon rainbow assed flying across the universe nyan cats (but nothing special).
