FrogBrad - An Update on the Beta, Please?

I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to know if the beta for FE is still slated to begin around Thanksgiving (i.e. soon). Would you please provide us an update? Bitte?

S'il vous plait?

Por favor?

Pozhaluista?

Alstublieft?

Alright, you get the point. I (we) really want to know. Please.

around thanksgiving means January...  don't you know that if a developer ever gives you a date, you should always add 2 months to it?

The last estimate is some time after thanksgiving, so definitely nothing to play this weekend. Well, anno 2070 is out

After? Ah, boo! I see that Anno 2070 is out. Do you have it? If so, is it any good? I liked the demo, but didn't like the mission structure/story. It has the sandbox mode, right?

Skyrim is consuming me at the moment, anyway. Have some ~40 hours in to it already. Doesn't meant I wouldn't like me some Fallen Enchantress, though.

The beta is going to roll out similarly to how WOM was done.

Around Thanksgiving (and it'll be after it because no one wants to be on beta babysit watch during the 4 day weekend) the first phase will go out which will be to people who joined the earliest of the WOM betas.

Soon after, it will expand to everyone who was part of the WOM beta process.

Soon after that, it'll expand to everyone who bought WOM by release.

Then it'll be everyone who bought WOM in 2010.

The goal being to do this the way WOM should have been done.

That sounds... unnecessarily dividing.

Agreed about the divisiveness, would like to give some feedback on the beta and might have a bit of time here and there in the next few weeks, not sure later. Probably means less flaming / risk of negative reception but also less feedback.
But your choice of course if you doubt the people who haven't participated in the beta cant handle the rough edges of a beta process...

4th in line I guess. x_x

I bought my copy in September.

Hopefully the Betas can keep us informed with AARs or something at least.

Yeah... why not make it available to everyone that'll be getting it for free all at once? Is it just to avoid a flood of duplicate bug reports (and feature suggestions and whatnot) in the pre-bugtest environment? Seems to me the community isn't big enough that that needs to be a major worry.

I trust they are starting with a small group to perfect the beta process before it is too big. We will just have to trust their judgement. It's not like we first beta testers are going to get to make game changing decisions. We will probably just be dealing with crashes and map generation issues.

Oh man, my therapist is going to have his work cut out for him dealing with my new sense of entitlement.

brad, as a person that was in the E:wom beta 2, would that put me in the first or second group?

Brad - OMG, first you want Thanksgiving weekend off and now you're going to make some of us wait for our doses of Beta pain!

I guess you really are the evil gaming mastermind I keep reading about in these forums!

Oh, buy the way, I joined at Beta 1Z1 (April 2010), could you please email me with the start date for my group so I can rearrange my schedule as needed. }:)

The bottom line is we're trying to be very careful in how we spread out the beta. We're talking tens of thousands of people here that will be relying on a lot of new infrastructure that's never been through one of these (it's not like we have Impulse anymore to distribute our betas).

It'll happen in pretty rapid succession.

I knew it.  Selling Impulse to GameStop was all part of your diabolical plan!  Very clever Mr. Frogboy.

can't wait to see that it do

The ramp up makes sense given impulse is gone as does Elemental FE beta beating Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion beta to the punch.

"(and it'll be after it because no one wants to be on beta babysit watch during the 4 day weekend)"

But it can't start until after the new Stardock Central, right ??

Who got the short straw on babysitting that over the 4-day weekend, or it that after Thanksgiving day too?

Super excited to see what FE is all about. I was in the the WOM beta REALLY early, so I'm hoping that means that I get access to FE early! BRING IT ON, STARDOCK!

I'll need something after my Skyrim addiction to get excited about, haha!

I was in Beta 1Z.

I guess I will get it in the second phase.

That's cool.

When you say "rapid succession" is that rapid from the perspective of impatient users or harried developers? Are we looking at a couple days between each? Weeks? Hours?

I think Brad said something about the number of impatient posts delaying beta for that user.

Having supported Stardock from the get go on EWOM, and the subsequent experiment that followed, we have patiently waited for Fallen Enchantress.  Rushing the Beta will not bring it to us any faster.  I look at it like this.  I bought EWOM on release day, and like many of you, never found it to be a "fun" game.  So, let those of us who are not the first in the beta say, Santa shall bring it to us on Xmas day.  Until then, make some Egg Nog, revel in the holiday spirit, and go make some custom ships in GalCiv 2.

Tis the season fella's, happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas, Ho Ho Ho!!
