Guys, watch out for the toolbar it wants to install. It isn't necessary to install those. Could be spyware.

It wanted to install the ASK toolbar and set ASK.com as my homepage. Uncheck those options.

And I found that after installing and registering, it may still say trial mode until you restart the program. Mine said Trial has ended at the top, then at the bottom it said continue trial.

I clicked that and then restarted it. It now has "register" greyed out in the about section under help. So it should be fully functioning now.

They could make it a tad easier to get registered, but it works and for free.

There is nothing wrong with this software. Magix (Xara) is a reputable company and has made great software for years. I have 4 softwares from this company, the other three are paid software.  They offer a great 3D screensaver creating program that I love.

I thought someone out there who doesn't have Photoshop could benefit from it. But I must say that it, in no stretch of the imagination, replaces Photoshop. That is laughable.  >_>

I know that, wanted to be sure those who might want the software to know that too.    ;)

But you and I both know, even if the maker thinks it's better than Photoshop, it comes nowhere near PS.

I've used Xara3D for years...for animated 3D text effects in Litestep....the module was 'Rainmation' ... another proggy by Rainny.

This is a full Graphics proggy by the same co. [Xara]

As with a lot of 'freebies' it'll want to install a toolbar ... change your search defaults, etc ... but you can always say 'no' to those and just install the software.

I went through the motions to be sure it wasn't going to frag people's machines [it doesn't], but a decade and a half of using PSP won't have me changing to anything else anytime soon....;p

And the Ask toolbar is one that not only hijacks your default search settings, it is a right royal pain in the arse to get rid of as well.  Dunno if it's still behaving as badly as before , but a while back it covertly installed with a freebie I wanted to try out..  Not only was there no warning and thus no opt out, there was no uninstall option in Add or Remove Programs to remove it, either. I even tried Revo Uninstaller and it didn't appear there, either.  After hours trying to get rid of it, only to have it reappear again and again, I ended up doing a system restore, which allowed me to remove any remaining fragments that were still present after reboot.

For mine, the Ask toolbar should be flagged as malware by the security community and banned, but I recently read that some OEM's still bundle it with their systems.  Shame on them... and shame on C-Net and other sites for wrapping freeware with shit that can cause harm and frustration. >:(

Sorry about the hijack, Jim, but when you mentioned the Ask toolbar I felt the need to mention my problem with it.

Besides the toolbar/home page and search engine stuff, during installation I got a warning from Mamutu (a behavioral blocker) that the software was attempting to send info online through a backdoor without notification. I've never seen that before with any other software.

That might not be personal/financial, etc. info but I elected to abort the installation.

OK.

I installed the software.  I unchecked the OPTION to also install the toolbar.

End of story.

It is NOT a malware issue...unless you are stupid enough to say YES to everything.

CrapCleaner will ALSO install junk if you forget to say 'no'.

Adulthood comes with responsibility.

Be responsible...and you WILL get a decent free proggy without issue.
