Scientists on trial for not warning strongly enough

Scientists on trial for not warning strongly enough

Ignorami vincet or Panem et circenses

From Italy:

"Six Italian scientists and one government official are set to go to trial today in Italy (Sept. 20) on charges of manslaughter for not warning the public aggressively enough of an impending earthquake that killed more than 300 people in 2009."

http://www.livescience.com/16132-italian-earthquake-prediction-manslaughter-trial.html

It seems that scientists can now predict where, when and how strong earthquakes will be.

In fact, warnings were issued:

"Enzo Boschi, the then-president of Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology and now a defendant in the case, seemed to allude to this uncertainty in a March 31, 2009, meeting in L'Aquila, a medieval city in Abruzzo. Comparing the situation to a large quake that struck L'Aquila in 1703, Boschi said, "It is unlikely that an earthquake like the one in 1703 could occur in the short term, but the possibility cannot be totally excluded.

In a press conference after the meeting, however, Department of Civil Protection official Bernardo De Bernardinis, also a defendant in the case, struck a more soothing tone, saying that the situation posed "no danger" and urging residents to relax.

Less than a week later, on April 6, a 6.3-magnitude quake struck in Abruzzo. L'Aquila's medieval buildings crumbled, killing 309 people and injuring more than 1,500." - http://www.livescience.com/16132-italian-earthquake-prediction-manslaughter-trial.html

Seems ridiculous to me, in this day and age that finger pointers should be able to put scientists on trial for not having crystal balls. I can see the civil official perhaps being lax in in telling everyone there "to relax" if that is indeed true and not just another instance of people hearing what they wanted and then being angry when it didn't turn out that way.

When will people understand that some things are still beyond science and stop believing the "special effects" are real?

"Panem et circenses".

When will people stop the finger pointing and blame game and just grow up?

if we had a few blunt and rusty knife wielders Just to clarify, are the knives blunt and rusty or the knife wielders the blunt and rusty ones? I ask because both may apply in this case.

Probably 'needs' to be "wielders of blunt and rusty knives"....

or perhaps....

"blunt and rusty knife-wielders...."

No, that's worse....go with option one. ... JAFOCHECK

To avoid possible misunderstanding, just buy and use a spoon. They are naturally blunt.

But... 'there is no spoon'...

Boy...have you got issues. Lol

Yeah, I think it's because I was an over-protected child and wrapped up in cotton wool.

Of course I'm gonna have issues after that, then entering the real world only to find there are more bastards and bullies than there are nice guys.

By the time you add up all the politicians; corporate bigwigs; bankers; economists; scientists; movie moguls; advertisers and Google execs, there's a much smaller percentage of the population left to be the good guys and gals.

No wonder I have trouble sleeping.  All of the above give me the eebie jeebies and nighmares.

Hmmmmm!  While I thank my parents for my charmed and idyllic childhood in the pleasant countryside of dear old Devon, it actually disadvantaged me because it in no way prepared me for the manic mongrels and Google execs of this world.

In fact, it should be compulsory learning at school, recognising big bastards and the evil of Google, to prepare the young and vulnerable for the real world.

Another thing that should be compulsory education, is a day trip to parliament/whatever in the US, so that kids can see first-hand how childish and immature our politicians are... in the hope all the petty and childish bickering will dissuade them from voting in the future and electing imbeciles.

So, Doc, being a member of the medical profession n' all, would it be unethical to perform a gonad removal using a spoon?  I mean, would doctors perform this kind of procedure, or would we have to look elsewhere - say to a vet or a butcher - to deknackerise a banker or a politician with a rusty old spoon [that hasn't been sanitised or sterilised]?

The trouble is, and I can see it now, we'll have the usual do-gooders protesting the procedure and calling it barbaric.  Geez, how I hate do-gooders [add them to the list as well].  Yup, they'll come up with some 'chemical castration' solution [ a painless injection or something] and take all the fun out of it.

You can always give them ten inches of string and a manhole cover. Tie one end to their jewels and the other to the manhole cover and make them carry it. Don't drop it though. BIG OUCH!

Alternatively, tightly tie one end of 20 - 30 feet of string to the offending parts [another way of saying mongrels like that shouldn't be allowed to breed] and the other end to a large concrete block, then take them to a high mountain pass where a bridge looks down on the white water rapids 300 feet below, where you stand them on the guard rail then throw the concrete block over the side.

Hehe, they can either opt to plunge to their demise or simply stand there and lose the wedding tackle.  ;)

I reckon, because we have an 'International Talk Like A pirate Day', we ought to have an 'International DeKnacker a Thieving Banker Day'

And it should be dedicated to the world famous Russian Castrationist, and what an artist he was... Ivan Ripabollockoff.

I concur. Ivan...get to work you slacker!

It's simple economics. Every country has a huge debt; so who do they owe money to? Each other... duh!

So instead of paying each other off, they continue to pay billions in interest.

Where does the interest go? Yup, to the banks...

Now you know why I hate f*ckin' bankers... they love and thrive on bad financial situations.  Doesn't matter who it is, The average Joe, business or government, the banks are only too willing to screw anyone and everyone for a fast buck without effort.

Is there such a thing as a hard working banker?

Not f*cking likely... not when other peoples money is available and too east to get because government doesn't have the balls to legislate to protect us.

Yup, do yourself [and the world] a favour... castrate a banker today.
