New Disk with Rebellion?

Hey guys,

I'm going to buy sins soon, and I was looking at getting Trinity with the 2 expansions but then I saw Rebellion was out soon, and I'd prefer to own it on disk also so I can have it for years to come like other pc games I still play from time to time. So will a disk be released with all the expansions in the future like Trinity or would it be to long?

Game looks excellent, got homeworld and freelancer already, got to add to the collection :P

You'll need Impulse to update the game, and even if you had a disc, you would be able to download the entire game from Impulse anyway. So, unless Game Stop and StarDock and IronClad all go under... chances are you will be able to download the game for a very, very long time. Long enough in fact where by the time the game is no longer available anywhere, you will probably have some other game that made SOASE nothing more than a pleasant memory of yore.

In short: the disc is kind of a waste, as you'll need Impulse anyway. Furthermore, you can backup a copy of the game on a spare hard drive and have it for however long that hard drive lasts, which will likely be years.

Lastly, I'm not sure if Rebellion is a stand-alone game or not, but if it is - the chances are high that there will be at least a limited retail release with a DVD packed in it.

Stardock has neither confirmed nor denied a physical release. For them it all depends if a physical release will be profitable or not, and the game is still to early in development for them to make a prediction on that.

We're leaning towards both a digital and retail release at this point.

Hmmm.  If and when it's confirmed to have a retail release, I might have to cancel my pre-order.  Call me old fashioned, but I like having game disks.

I will purchase the game disc if possible. When I purchased Sins they had a 'collectors edition' full of game music, research tree poster plus a sweet manual. I would buy one of those for Rebellion. I still jam out to that music in the car!

I also would prefer to have a physical disc, and would even consider( very hard) a 'collectors edition' direct, or even direct disc version from stardock as the elemental collectors edition second copy arrived (with all the delays before shipping) BEFORE the shops could even order it from the 'local' distributor.

Odds are that if we offer a retail version we'll allow folks to upgrade to the retail box direct like we usually do for a small fee.

Awesome.

Very. And a collectors edition would be sweet. Will the box or cd be available for pre-order?

Basically, you preorder and get all the benefits associated with it.  If retail is offered, for a small fee you can upgrade your preorder to include being mailed a disk in a box when it's available.

That small fee in the past was just shipping and handling. The Collectors Editions was an additional $10 if I remember correctly.

Not sure if we're doing a CE with Rebellion or not given the lack of retail shelf space these days.  If we do, it'll be in very limited quantities and probably cost a significant amount of additional money (cause the cost of making it will be substantially higher).

Maybe we'll do a poll and ask you guys what you think?

You guys should make a "We've survived three years of ICO edition."

-_- some people just can't be happy ...

Anyways, depending on what is IN the Collectors Edition at a potential cost of $75 or so. I would be down with purchasing it. Otherwise I will be content with a standard boxed version sent to my home. :-)

Well, what I really meant was the MP edition, but I thought what I said was funnier.  I'm looking forward to Impulse Reactor.

It may be closer to $100, depending on what would be included and the number made.  What would you folks like to see in a CE?

$100?  Dang.  My wish list:

1) A "3,000 games played on ICO certificate", with a gold seal.

2) A "I helped find the Mini Dump bug" certificate, with a gold seal.

3) A Vasari SB action figurine thing.

4) An Evacuator sucking a planet dry figurine thing.

5) A "Master of the Soft Eco" certificate, with a gold seal.

And I'm spent.

Hmmm ... that's a good question. For $100, assuming $50+$5 for the game box and shipping which leaves $45 left over ...

1) 3 smaller figurines (pewter, doesn't have to be painted) of either ships or individuals of the races.

2) 11"x17" Poster depicting Sins: Rebellion logo plus awesome battle scene that could be signed by the dev team / StarDock support team?

3) A numbered certificate that states what production number your boxed copy of the Collectors Edition is. It does NOT need to have a xxxx out of xxxx stamp, just a 'This is Collectors Edition Box xxxx'.

How's that sound for $100? I would like to see something along those lines for $100.

Minus the figurines and throw in a car/computer case window decal with the Sins Logo for Rebellion instead and I'd pay $75.

I really liked the music CD in the last version of the Collectors Edition for Vanilla. I'm not advocating that it goes into the Rebellion Collectors Edition, but it would be nice to see something like that as a purchasable item through Impulse.

Just some thoughts.

I'd like to see a few posters, say one that shows the ships with stats as well as a tech tree for TEC loyalists, the reverse for TEC Rebels, another poster for each of the other factions.  A guide with more detailed histories of the factions.

In the DS lore I posted Vasari written text, would be nice to see a little bit of some stuff on the official side of things about what their writing would look like, maybe some famous sayings in vasari, I've always been kind of bummed out that aliens who are invading human societies in games always learn English (or some other human language).  Why not make us learn some of theirs.

What if it is in fact that Advent and the TEC that have learned how to speak Vasari?!

How about, "We survived 4 years of beta testing to reach Rebellion and still didn't get a campaign." sticker?

Yeah, that'll go great along side of my other sticker that says: "Porn!  It's cheaper then dating."  XD
