any adapter with the right voltage and stuff will work.

This I know. Four years doing electronics.

Tried another power supply, same voltage rating. Didn't work. I got the same thing, just the fan running, the blinking light on caps lock and no display. I think my lappy is toast.                            SHIT!!

Someone's motherboard has gone to heaven, I'm afraid.

Uvah... start looking for bargains. Oh yeah - avoid Craig's list. Newegg is usually best and cheapest.

Thanks Doc but its gonna take awhile. My finances are close to zero. Still unemployed too. Best I get is an occasional job here and there but lately because of the shitty economy they're few and far between.

The best I was able to find on newegg is a refurbished laptop same make but the model is different. 250GB HDD, 2 gigs ram @ 2.2 GHz but its an intel for 295.USD includes shipping. The other is an AMD dual core @ 2.10 GHz, 3 gigs ram with 250GB HDD for 320 USD includes shipping. I did find the motherboard though but there are like four different ones ranging from 79 USD up to 150 USD. Problem is getting to the part number on mine. Haven't been able to separate the lower part of the laptop from the upper. Got all the screws out but something else is holding it together.

Although I did find a Dell brand new with 4GB ram, 320 HDD with an Intel pentium T4500 cpu @ 2.30 GHz for 380 USD. Need to find a bank to rob. lol

Caramelized spiders and flies, no doubt.

Can't the laptop store do it for you? Are they still closed?

Last I saw they were. As for the caramelized spiders and flies...I wouldn't doubt it. Love your sense of humor Doc.

There's a knack to getting lappies apart... not that I ever figured it out.  My niece had a couple of dead ones and wanted the HDD's removed and destroyed for security purposes.  Yeah, I had to cannibalise them severely... a bit of brute force and ignorance did the trick.  Once the screws were out I just prised them apart, yanked the HDD's and beat sh!t out of them with a 5lb hammer.   Nobody's retrieving any data off of those any time soon.

Yup there's nothing like a smashing good time to lift flagging spirits. :w00t:

I can't stop laughing.... omg.

The image of a Pirate with a hammer and a mummy duck doing folk dances on a laptop while Uvah looks on, waiting for the 'miracle repair' is too much.

Oh, yeah, there was a knack to it orright... my nieces lappies were caramalised with several species of small furry animals.... not to mention 'stuff' she spilled on it.

Besides, the idea was to strike terror into the heart of Uvah and make him think he had to become a one-man wrecking crew to get into his.... the psychology being that he may leave it to the experts and eventually get it back in one piece AND working.

Uvah, you know you could simply call HP and ask for a new Power Adapter.
I have some HP Storage´s and 3 of them already had the same problem those adapters are plain cheap and they also know about that.
Here is what i did i called them told them the exact model i need and they simply sended me 2 without charging me even while i was over my warranty.
( there should be a sticker on the back of the adapter with the model name )

roloccolour, DID you read reply 52?

uvah said that he had tried another powersupply of the same voltage and amperage(assume it also had the correct plug on it), and it still did not work, so all the suggestions/comments regarding the motherboard being the cause of the problems is most likely correct, and with lappies when the mobo goes then the lappie dies, then you pull the hdd out and recycle the rest as the motherboard IS the entire computer excluding the screen, external powersupply, battery and ram, and the only easily recoverable parts ARE the powersupply, battery the RAM and the HDD.

R : We're giving Pilate two days to dismantle the entire apparatus of the Roman Imperialist State and if he doesn't agree immediately we execute her.
R: They've bled us white, the bastards. They've taken everything we had, not just from us, from our fathers and from our fathers' fathers.
S : And from our fathers' fathers' fathers.
R: Yes.
S: And from our fathers' fathers' fathers' fathers.
R: All right, Stan. Don't labour the point. And what have they ever given us IN RETURN? (he pauses smugly)
X: The aqueduct?
R: What?
X: The aqueduct.
R: Oh yeah, yeah they gave us that. Yeah. That's true.
MC: And the sanitation!
S: Oh yes ... sanitation, Reg, you remember what the city used to be like.
R: All right, I'll grant you that the aqueduct and the sanitation are two things that the Romans HAVE done ...
M: And the roads ...
R: (sharply) Well YES OBVIOUSLY the roads ... the roads go without saying. But apart from the aqueduct, the sanitation and the roads ...
MC : Irrigation ...
O: Medicine ... Education ... Health
R: Yes ... all right, fair enough ...
MC : And the wine ...
ALL : Oh yes! True!
F: Yeah. That's something we'd really miss if the Romans left, Reg.
MC: Public baths!
S : AND it's safe to walk in the streets at night now.
F: Yes, they certainly know how to keep order ... (general nodding) ... let's face it, they're the only ones who could in a place like this.
(more general murmurs of agreement)
R: All right ... all right ... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order ... what HAVE the Romans ever done for US?
X: Brought peace!

Speaking of which, I just happened to find a photo of starkers at work on his last laptop project.

How he got all of that out of one laptop is beyond my comprehension.
