Sure I do Dr. Guy. How do you think I was able to tell that I needed a really small screwdriver to open my lappy. I asked one of the staff here if I could borrow a small phillips and he hands me one big enough to take the Eiffel Tower apart. Then I made him look in the directors office. I got one and now its mine. lol. Just wish I could get it fixed. X(

You will probably just have to bite the bullet on this one Uvah and take it to a PC repair technician.

I know LS but it won't happen any time soon I'm afraid. They are way too expensive and my laptop is past warranty. With my luck it'll be cheaper to buy a new one and that ain't gonna happen.

Uvah, did you try yrag's suggestions in reply #25?

I'm about to Philly. All I'll be able to do though is find out how much it'll be. Wish me luck.

I have used my local PC repair shop several times just to plug in an adapter and see if a laptop boots. As Yrag said, most will do it for free.

Same thing happened to me two months ago, same diagnostic, same behaviour of PC as you described.

My friend repair it, and said :

Too much dust in fan tunels, because of too much dust, temperature was too high and all the contacs on Video card was weak.

He has repair all contacs on Video card with Soldering and clean PC from dust.

here is video on youtube that i saw first, and after that i realise what can be problem with my PC, and than i brought my PC to my friend.

My laptop is HP Pavilion dv 9000, i think Compaq is the same build or manufacture, so it is the same pc actualy.

hope this helps

That model is notorious for video problems. HP even got sued over it if I recall correctly.

Went twice to the store where my lap top was bought and both times it was closed due to flood damage. Had a nasty thunder storm here on Monday. Many streets flooded and several stores including Staples suffered flood damage. I'm hoping they'll re-open soon. They know me and the lap top having gone there about nine months ago to get more memory and the external HDD. Going to try again tomorrow.

Maybe your lappy just drowned too....that'll make things go 'black'....;)

Nah....they're gonna be out awhile I think. Been there today and they're still closed. I might have to wait until I accumulate a few bucks and take it to another place to get it checked out. Its gonna be a long frustrating haul cause of all the stuff I'm missin' out on. Boogers!

Okay, so what have you been able to find out?  :-"

That his computer repair place looks like a goldfish bowl.

Have to try a new power supply. Just waiting for a friend of mine. Slow going unfortunately.

Do you know anyone else with a Toshiba laptop that you could try their power adapter?  Most Toshiba's I have seen use the same power adapter.

Other than that, just find a power supply that puts out the same DC volts as the one you have for your Toshiba and has the same plug size and roughly the same MA Imilliamp) rating, that is what I have done in the past, used a power supply from my drill that had the same output to check my Toshiba once, worked fine.

Its an HP. A friend of mine is going to lend me the bucks for it. That's what I'm waiting on. Sorry if its taking so long.

Oh well, HP or Toshiba it does not matter, any adapter with the right voltage and stuff will work.
