5 things you wish to see in Rebellion

5 things you wish to see in Rebellion

Just list 5 things you want to see in upcoming SoSE expansion. I will sum all suggestions in main post, including luding number of people supporting  Rules:

1. Only one list/person, no more then 5 suggestions

2. Do not list things already announced by Ironclad (Titans, subfactions), unless you want to add extra features to these items (like "please make titans mobile factories")

3. Before you write something new, make sure there is nothing very similar to your idea already on list (like writing "more vasari upgrades please" when "more upgrades to all factions" already exist)

Ok, let's start:

1. More types of planets/gravity wells                                                                                                         [3 votes]

2. New upgrade(s) on each of 4 already existing  tech trees of every race (including deadlier tech)                  [3 votes]

7. Maps/Mods autodownload [including forge-made maps]                                                                          [3 votes]

8. Better and improved Forge and Map Designer                                                                                         [1 vote]

9. Better, less exploitable AI                                                                                                                    [4 votes]

10. Capturing/salvaging of enemy capitals                                                                                               [3 votes]

A few scouts and a few flak frigates will clear any number of mines as fast as you can move your ships through the minefield, clearing them as you go.

That and you really should scout ahead so you can kite the little buggers before moving your guys ahead. Hold position is a great order.

I want Rebellion Beta now with 1million credits otherwise I will activate the Blair Fraser Project!!!! ... :(O

All kidding aside ... ;P

1. Longer names!

2. Greater experience yield from capital ships. Even a level-1 capital ship is equal to a small fleet (small as in <10 ships), but is worth far fewer experience points.

3. Stealth systems.

4. Improve scouting AI. In programming terms, scout ships should use a depth-first approach. It's rather annoying to see a scout ship randomly decide that the next unknown planet to visit will be on the other side of explored space, rather than the nearest one.

5. Better map designer.

I want to see the beta out for testings so we can discover new illuminator bugs and ignore them this time in the hopes the advent get a powerful long range frigate.

I only want one thing:

persistant trail effects!

persistant trail effects for unattached emitters in particles, it may contribute a bit to lag, but it would look SOOOO GOOD!

and it would make an absolute mess of the grav well.

Krdax, have you ever thought to just leave your screensaver running?

Large Address Awareness, or something to enable more than 2Gb of RAM to be used. It would reduce lag, prevent crashes, and allow more to be added without sacrificing performance. These days most people will have at least 4Gb of RAM. I personally have 12. I see no reason why we should be limited to 2Gb and the problems associated with that.

Also, an optional Dynamic Movement system - as I can not find one that is updated for Diplomacy, let alone Rebellion when it comes out.

I say optional as not all want it, and it would preferably be able to be set in the 'Create Game' menu. It would allow for more cinematic and interesting battles for those that want them, and the optional part would allow those that don't to stick with the 17th Century Military lineup.

Also - a better cinematic mode. Make it remove all UI entirely when activated. It should make it so that you can take screenshots without having game stuff in the way. As is, to get it with only the basic UI in the way is a bit of a Hassle, as I have to unstick everything from that box on the left, then resticky it afterwards, all to take a nice screenshot.

This.

I'd like a cinematic mode similar to Empire At War, usually I'd just a 4 v 4 against the CPU and toward the end when our fleets are at their most hectic just turn on cinematic mode and sit back in awe.

Turn on cinematic mode then use Shift+Ctrl+Z

Increasing the max level for capital ships would be nice, as well as having a few levels on other ships similar to Homeworld where having a veteran crew really made a difference.  Really makes you value your ships a bit more and a nice little mini game to try and preserve your elite squadrons.  Same for the crew of a starbase.

Reducing late game bog downs is also a big priority for myself.  It can be quite frustrating to try and finish a game.

Better and improved Forge and Map Designer

Incorporating the different planet types in mods like sins plus.

I don't see this on the list, but I would like to be able to trade planets with the computer and other players.  If I happen to capture a planet and want my ally to hold it in defense and to give him/her a foothold in a new system or to help keep supply lines open, I'd like that option.

Fuck minigames. Just my opinion. They distract too much from the actual game and make it overall less enjoyable.

Trading planets is an interesting idea, though you shouldn't be able to trade your structures (except for resource extractors) because the player you trade with may be from another faction than you are.

One thing that annoys me very much is when gravity wells overlap in random maps. To get from one planet to another, your ships have to actually pass the other planet's gravity well to get to the edge of their own. Then they move backwards, to get to the gravity well of the new planet, which they were already in the edge of!

I agree they should fix overlapping gravity wells. It's hard to figure out what is happening in which gravity well sometimes, in case of an overlap.

I apologise for how hard to understand my earlier post was. I created a picture in paint in my start menu, and tried to upload it, but it wouldnt work.

Something that I think would be awesomely (XD) cool but maybe really hard to make and frustrating and fun at the same time would be if the planets or at least some planets would orbit and connect to different planets at different times, not sure how phase/spacing would work to and from those planets but yeah shouldn't be TOO hard to programme but I guess "believeability" might be hard to tackle. well yeah just a suggestion anyways. ALSO: would be nice if culture FLIPPED a planet to your side rather than wiping it out (GYAARRRGH! Can't take this massive broadcast of Vasari cooking classes!!!) but then maybe making cultural effects slightly slower.

EDIT: Orbit as in around the local star, not around other planets (well maybe that too I guess but the main idea is around the star).

I hope they fix this problem, too.

1.) Buff culture. It is far too slow to spread to other grav wells, and even when it gets there it takes a million years to decay an enemy worlds loyalty and can be stopped cold very easily. I also think they need to lessen how much a planets loyalty depends on its proximity to your home world. It's really obnoxious when you have a world fairly far away from the home world and have all of the culture oriented techs; on top of that you build like 2-3 propaganda centers and the planet still only gets like 55-60% loyalty. This is especially stupid as Advent imo.

2.) Ship manuverability needs to be improved, especially when jumping. I like to zoom in and watch my fleet take 10 min to make a phase jump because some light frigate was turned one billionth of inch in the wrong direction and proceeded to take forever to turn itself. I also hate that asking your ships to make a U turn in this game basically means they have to arc through half the grav well because their turning circle is as wide as Jupiters orbit around the sun. It's like none of these ships have horizontal thrusters of any kind, it is somewhat believeable with cap ships and heavies, but light frigates and to a lesser extent flak and LRM should have much tighter turning circles.

3.) Arctic and Volcanic worlds should never have less than 3 resource nodes, more often than not they should have 4 imo. Capping an asteroid with two nodes is acceptable, a planet (especially the ones that require a tech upgrade) having 2 is not.

4.) Nerf armistice. When there are 3+ ships that have it, I honestly want to kill myself. Any fight against the AI becomes nearly impossible, I end up just leaving the grav well because they will 100% without fail auto cast it back to back to back, and then just sit there. It hardly ever happens, but when it does it feels just plain broken. And this game is fairly free of cheesy OP stuff so I want this gone.

5.) Nerf bombers. It is way too effective to just swarm things with bombers. The fact that they are only killed by fighters is annoying, because that means you have to give up the strength of bombers yourself to try and kill them. And then flak absolutely maul the fighter swarms. It makes me cry to see a 100% upgraded 23k hp Star base get destroyed without inflicting one casualty because it was destroyed by 2-3 Ogrovs and an asston of carriers filled with bombers that just sit on the edge of the grav well. Having 150 bombers focus fire a level 10 cap ship to death is also obnoxious.

These are my pet peeves. Note, I have never done any multiplayer pvp and this is all based off of facing unfair -> vicious AIs in huge long games. Some of this might not be a big deal to the pros, or there might be mods that fix them. I dunno.

1. Ships maneuvering, arcing turns, bumping into roids. Luckily that is supposedly getting fixed.

2. Damage table rebalancing to make it more diverse (i.e. all sorts of spams should be more easily stopped, be it LRFs, scout or bomber spams)

3. Rebalancing of tech trees. There are currently many research paths that are ineffective (e.g. Vasari volcanic world pop buffs are crap, Colony pods are highly ineffective on Orkulus) or just retardedly useless (Tier 3&4 Pulse Beam upgrades, each having two levels, affect only capital ships!!! and are required for the bombing range increase upgrade. A shitton of money dumped into useless shit to get to a meh upgrade. Useless). This might require moving weapon types between ships (e.g. every sensible damage dealer for Vasari has phase missiles; take phase missiles off something and replace it with beams. Suddenly beam upgrades may become worthwhile).

4. Revision of capital ships in terms of their early game viability.

5. I'm obviously looking forward to the new titans, subfactions and corvettes. I'm giving the devs freedom here (as if they needed it ^^) as I trust the ideas will be fair. Just please... no more barrels shooting sideways, ok?

1)Distinct HWs per race.

2)More econ balance (though obviously i prefer 3 different econ models vs generalizing all econ into one kind so its easier to balance).

3)Advent refineries.  Buff refineries in general.

4)Tactical Strucutres buff (reduce cost or increase power)

5)New strikecraft, maybe something to counter the new corvettes.

I know this is a detail, but I'd like my ships to not automatically attack and blow up enemy envoys. Leaving an envoy alive in your gravity well allows you to benefit from its abilities. You can still choose whether or not to ignore your enemy's diplomatic efforts, and personally, I don't care about the planet vision you grant them. I can imagine some people would, so I propose a behaviour setting, just like you can set the engagement rate.
