5 things you wish to see in Rebellion

5 things you wish to see in Rebellion

Just list 5 things you want to see in upcoming SoSE expansion. I will sum all suggestions in main post, including luding number of people supporting  Rules:

1. Only one list/person, no more then 5 suggestions

2. Do not list things already announced by Ironclad (Titans, subfactions), unless you want to add extra features to these items (like "please make titans mobile factories")

3. Before you write something new, make sure there is nothing very similar to your idea already on list (like writing "more vasari upgrades please" when "more upgrades to all factions" already exist)

Ok, let's start:

1. More types of planets/gravity wells                                                                                                         [3 votes]

2. New upgrade(s) on each of 4 already existing  tech trees of every race (including deadlier tech)                  [3 votes]

3. Better unit and faction balance across all stages of game                                                                        [3 votes]

5. Lategame Lag reduction                                                                                                                       [2 votes]

6. Multiplayer support (better ranking system, in-game voting, anti-smurf etc.) and fixes (minudumbs, lags)    [4 votes]

7. Maps/Mods autodownload [including forge-made maps]                                                                          [3 votes]

8. Better and improved Forge and Map Designer                                                                                         [1 vote]

9. Better, less exploitable AI                                                                                                                    [4 votes]

10. Capturing/salvaging of enemy capitals                                                                                               [3 votes]

11. Way of relocating TEC/Advent Starbase in gravity well                                                                            [2 votes]

12. Improved and deadlier superweapons                                                                                                  [1 vote]

13. Fixes to Empire Tree                                                                                                                        [1 vote]

14. Terraforming, moons and other planets system improvements                                                                [1 vote]

17. Naming fleets and longer ships/planets names                                                                                   [1 vote]

18. Ability to queue structure while other structure is being scuttled to give free slots                                    [1 vote]

19. Non-capital ships able to level-up by gaining experience (at last few levels)                                          [1 vote]

ok yes, u shuld, but for me, my multiplayer dont work. been going thru all the things, cant figure out why so i stopped caring. but some formations would be useful for an assault on an enemy planet and just disable the formation after they start attacking.

If you only play single-player you're missing out on 95% of the strategy Sins has to offer! :( If you explain your problem in an appropriate thread I'm sure guys can help you figure out the problem.

I do find that formations work nicely for smaller groupings. Even in Homeworld, I would have five groups of five corvettes in claw formation. I would have them approach from multiple vectors, drawing fire away from the next wing as they make their passes. So there is a happy medium between formations and micro. And just the evade/defend/aggress options are nice. Would rather have fighters that made real tactical choices rather than just flew into any wall of flak without any thought.

1. Better unit and faction balance across all stages of game

The most demanding request! If we want to see our favorite game live long, this option must be revised and scanned all the time! Following implications are only positive ones, more players will come to play/buy at least.

2. Non-capital ships able to level-up by gaining experience (at last few levels)

Very interesting idea! I thought about that idea almost every time I got an opportunity to play a game. And, always said to myself that it was pity it couldn't be an option.

3. Capturing/salvaging of enemy capitals

For this game it will be a delicacy, for sure. I liked that option in Homeworld 2 very much and really enjoyed in it. It will bring more creativity in strategy plans!

4. Multiplayer support (better ranking system, in-game voting, anti-smurf etc.) and fixes (minudumbs, lags)

5. Cloaking fields

There are few things I also would like to see in Rebellion. Modules. Destroyable one, on all caps and other significant ships. When I say destroyable modules I mean engines, hiperspace jump module, guns module ... etc. Something similar as it was in Homeworld 2.

dang! they really upped the graphics from Homeworld! thanks G_Bison! but the question was "Is homeworld 2 more like sins or is it still like homeworld?

I've played the demo to H2, but it's more mission oriented while Sins it's win or lose meaning you can lose a series of battles, but still win in Sins, while H2 if you lose in certain missions, all maybe lost...

That's cause it has a campaign. There is the MP or against random AI games. It plays just like Homeworld, but with new mechanics applied to how some ships attack. Each game has their pros and cons. For the story alone I recommend that and Homeworld: Cataclysm. Cataclysm has two groups with vastly different weapons. Great fun.

As for requesting so much from Homeworld, I think it comes down to two things. One, Homeworld raised the bar on a tactical level. The real 3-D and detailed mechanics made it something to be cherished. Two, we do want to see a strategic level Homeworld. I think some aspects of the gameplay would have to be revised to deal with all the micro, such as maybe making a Total War style strategic map. As a true RTS, it would be difficult.

I accept that Sins can not be Homeworld, but given the micro done in Sins, I can imagine bringing over a handful of the mechanics would be a plus. Granted, it would have to be done with a different engine.

TEC: Get Homeworld 2 and look up how to make your own icons. Then pick your team colors, push it to max graphics and look how pretty it is, especially when the lights of war start flashing. It's like a battle scene from Battlestar Galactica.

Draak is right, the battles which take place are just insane, and the mods for it just make it better. Here's one....

When you get use to the game, play Homeworld 2 Complex. Best mod

The more time they spend moving and deciding what formation to get into, the less damage they deal, for most frigates. The only real important thing to consider in a "formation" is to make sure flak frigates are in front (usually) - most everything else would be a complete waste of time. Plus, if you're playing a game against a decent opponent, you should be attempting to micromanage your battles anyway, making any preset "formation" almost completely irrelevant 5 seconds into the battle.

I certainly agree that micromanaging the units yourself is the most effective way. But, firsly, I frequently have 3-4 battles going on at the same time (endgames in SP) and that makes micromanaging the fleets yourself practically impossible. And secondly, I really enjoy watching the battle play out by themself without my interruption. I just like zooming in and out and watching the battle from different angles.

But this Idea with a more dynamic fleet formation and beeing able to give the units priorityorders would ad another level of strategy to the game. The one who wins the battle may the not only depends on how big the fleet is and what types of units are part of i but it will also depend on who have made the smartest formation and given the smartest priorities.

All this new stuff coming to the game (Titan, Corvettes), allthough cool and I´m really looking forward to it, really dont ad more strategy to the game. They just ad more bang for the bucks. Fleet formation would ad another level of stategy.

Sncerely

While it is true that extra fleet formations would make for new options during the game, it is a bit obsolete. The fleets are already formed so that your anti-strike craft frigates are in the middle, the assault frigates are in the front of the fleet and the carriers and support ships stay at the rear of the fleet so that they are best protected. In other words, the current fleet formation is generally most effective in battle.

But as other people stated, it is generally more effective not to have fleets in battle because your ships waste too much time moving into position rather than firing their guns on a target. I think the odds of gaining more fleet formation options in Rebellion are not in your favor.

Lastly, it is all but true that new ship classes don't add extra strategic depth to the game. Imagine what the game would look like when there would be no anti-strike craft frigates, par example.

Here's one....

Never played R.E.A.R.M. It doesn't have the broad range of units Complex does, but it does look like fun. I'll have to try it out.

I warn you, Complex has a learning curve cause it's a new tech tree, buildings, ships, and even capturable structures. And everything can be destroyed, so beware and aim to take advantage.

There is 3d movement, but the fact remains that Sins remains at its core a 2D game, which is the way it should remain, IMO.

Even if it did become a full 3D game, you would need to patch up the holes, add a more capable AI to individual units, and make true collison detection for weapons (versus designated hit/miss upon firing). It's too much for the current design and would change too many things at this point to maintain the customer base. Leave it for Sins2.

ok fleet formations youve all covered, one other thing i want is that 3d movement. in homeworld there was truly a 3d movement, in sins they all try to balance themselves on the same plane. thats not how space battles are! (although fictional) i wouldnt send in a bunch of ships in a straight line! id have them coming in like the "Claw" formation in homeorld and in differnt spots as well!

No, Sins is fine as is.

Given the slow turn speeds and the inability to strafe, standard line-of-battle fights are fine with me.

Besides, realism (even fictional realism) isn't the point - the point is to provide for good gameplay. Complicated formations, or even 3d movement at all, does not at all provide for good gameplay. It allows for exploits, and the AI has no real idea how to handle it.

Sins is basically 2d and should stay that way. I'd be fine if they completely removed 3 dimensions for everything but the graphics.

I think this is largely true because of the faulty game mechanics where the use of 3D is concerned and because of the overwhelming nature of the micro across multiple grav wells. I've already made commentary on the matter in another post.

Right about now I'm really really tempted to completely skewer you for being a new player who clearly doesn't know what he's talking about... but I won't do that. Yet.

Sins is not Homeworld for a reason.
