Still Disappointed

Still Disappointed

So I bought this game over six months ago and it is still pretty much crap, I came here to check up on the development recently of the expansion and it is now set to Fall. When I came here originally it was April, and now Fall? What is going on with this? I will tell you, you should wait to release a complete version of the game instead of a beta. Its bad business.

Any answers?

Eh, somebody comes on the forum and posts a passive agressive thread.

Gets hostile answers from forum regulars.

OP cries I'm being persecuted.

Seriously. The tone sets the music.

I will tell you, you should wait to release a complete version of the game instead of a beta. Its bad business.

Listen to me me me. I'll tell you, oh yes I will. Entitlement +1.

Also, please note that people expressing their disappointment with the game are mostly very polite and civil here, why the rabid fanbois are... not (Lord Xia comes to mind).

Yea, Lord Xia is not very nice, he's very rude in fact. Unfortunately for you, he's also often quite right with his post, even when he's rude.

I also like your stick, rabid fanboys are impolite. Fun sentence. It's like saying, oh, those assholes are impolite. You use an insult (fanboy) as a description for impolite people, being impolite yourself at the same time.

The general assumption on these forums is, that the release version of E:WoM was very flawed, technically not stable and mostly no fun. The current version got some fixes, but I wager to say that the majority still don't think of it too highly. It's not a very bad game, it's only decent and not very polished at all.

So, saying that the "fanboys" on these forums rabidly defend the game is laughable. Look a bit around and you'll see plenty of critisism off the game. The difference is, forum regulars KNOW that StarDock has acknowledged the faults of the current game. They are trying to fix it technically and want to improve some game mechanics. They even apologized for releasing the game in its old state and called it a mistake. They will give away a full remake for free to old customers, they hired new people so that the same thing won't happen again.

Surprisingly, this takes time. Engine corrections are very time intensive (which are necessary to resolve memory issues).

And in comes the OP crying about how the game isn't to his liking and basically declares that StarDock has done nothing to amend for the old release.

The nerve! *monocle*

You honestly wonder why the OP gets a negative reaction to that? Really?

I would like all the people who urge others to go away, to go away... err...

I'm not going to twist my opinion by spreading something like, "You should stick around and gripe about the game, it'll make yourself and everyone else on the forum a lot happier. Really, do it more," just because you have a very loose definition of "rabid fanboy". Strange that you say as much after complaining about politeness. At the very least if the post is constructive we get a feeling that the OP is trying to add to the discussion on the game rather than simply look for something to swing at. Either way, it's already been suggested that he seek a refund or perhaps shelve the game and hope it improves with time.

I think he might want to play before world is end, LOL, It's might be truth, or not, I don't know, not everyone get free two or one game.

Thankfully Stardock still has around seven months before THAT happens. Jokes aside, they've been making good time with 1.2 and 1.3 so far. We can't rush them if we expect something stable.

Mmph. I don't understand why people get all uppity whenever someone makes a thread like this. Not everyone is happy with the product they bought. Even with whatever free expansions they're getting. In the same way that they can't force you guys into hating the game you can't force them into liking it.

Because after the 500th nearly identical thread since September it's gotten old? We don't need a new one saying the same thing every single week.

Eh, didn't care enough to this one to respond to OP.

People really throw out that fanboy bullshit around a lot.  Read most of my post and you will see that the majority of them are bitching about some half-assed part of this game.  Yet, just because I think this game was very bad when released and still has a lot of fuck ups in it, doesn't mean I am not able to recognize that Brad has gone beyond the call of duty to make up for it.  Hiring well known industry people to make two new Elemental games and work on WoM.  So I get improved WoM, and 2 free games.  That seems like a pretty good deal.  Yes, I would have liked WoM to have been a better game, yes I think it still has a lot of flaws.  But just because I don't think that Brad is the Anti-Christ because he hasn't made WoM the perfect game and the "expansions" are going to be stand-alone doesn't make me a fanboy.  Grow up, only children and people with personality disorders see the world as black and white, with us or against us.

Huh? What'd I miss? What's the 2nd free game? I know of FE, but what'd I miss about the 2nd one? Expansions to improve a flawed product aren't being counted right?

Yeah.. as much as I bitch as well, I'll never not say the SD boys have gone well beyond what anyone else would have even just by saying "yeah, we fucked up, we'll try to fix it" even when I doubt they'll succeed. But it's what brings me back, the hope they've instilled in me.

If you bought the game early enough, you are also getting a second, yet unnamed Elemental game for free too.  Yes, a full stand alone Elemental game.

It's obviously up to us, the consumers, to kick-start some action on the company's part.  I know it's the American Way to sit around adrool while large corporations take advantage of the "little people," but speaking up is really not all that bad or negative, and asking difficult questions should not be answered with "Go away, I don't like you."

Stardock really needs to sate it's consumers, as even their long term allies are starting to falter and disappear.

Stardock's mantra; action speaks louder than words. If you're looking for an argument with the devs, you're unlikely to get one.

Telling someone to "go away" will never achieve anything, it is the same as trolling.

Sweetness. Pure and unadulturated. Sorry I missed that somehow.

I pre-ordered, so I'm safe.

What more do you want?  Really?  What more?  The problem is, there are consumers who want unrealistic service.  Honestly, if when the game first came out and someone said, "This game is terrible, I want you to fix it and then give me your next 2 Elemental games free"!  I would have thought, "Holy shit, that's the most unreasonable thing I have ever heard, yes I understand asking for a refund or asking for it to be fixed, but also getting two free games?  Thats crazy".  Brad is giving you that.  1.2 and 1.3 patches are being worked on at the same time.  Its too bad that it couldn't happen quicker.  But what can be done about it?  This kind of high entitlement nonsense just pisses reasonable people off.

Luckily nobody has said that. Or at least I don't think so (admittedly I skimmed a little). Let's not oversimplify the argument now.

Also, there's no "difficult" question only his asking for opinions, which many have given.

Stardock really needs to sate it's consumers, as even their long term allies are starting to falter and disappear.

You're just going to have to be patient. Not sure what I can add to that. Asking them to rush their work while berating the flawed release of Elemental only serves to confuse.

Telling someone to "go away" will never achieve anything, it is the same as trolling.

And reducing the topic to terms such as "trolling", "fanboys", etc, is the height of informed debate? Simply because you find an opinion to be harsh hardly means it's trolling. They're up there to pick apart if you'd like however.

World peace!

Chop chop, Brad, you only have 'til 2012.

Why does this discussion continue after I made the point that the OP can actually go and get a refund and we can all stop bitching?

You guys just want to bitch don't you.

silly  man, don't you realize... people love to bitch about stuff... if it ain't one thing they find something else to bitch about.

Two stuff free game, it's sound like they working for you who own this two free game for free, it's not easy to work for someone you don't love for free. LOL, I try to work for someone I don't know for free, it's not easy indeed. Most people today, I know, "What is in for me?" but sometime, people there willing gave a free even though it's cost to themself.

I just want to say something before this thread gets locked... there, said it.

I didn't buy the game when it came out, so I'll be getting the discounted version, honestly though I'd rather pay for the game because I'm supporting SD and the people it employ's, I'm probably one of many people who think like this. I'd rather pay and support the company that way they can bring us an even better game/games in the future.

To address one of the the OP's questions: The expansion was set to fall to make it better. Besides a handful of folks, and the guys working on engine improvements (memory, stability), pretty much the whole team is toiling away at FE.

One of the (many) things that went wrong with WoM was that there was no 'polish' phase. We were getting in key features right up 'till gold (and beyond), where-as with FE, Derek has set up a schedule where the main features and all assets will be in and playable several months before Gold.  Common sense in hindsight, but we ran WoM development like an Indie team, and our failures have led the way for a better pipeline that will lead towards better games.  A bit more time in the cooker should always be viewed as a positive...and beleive us when we say that you're not being strung along. There are many good things being done for FE, even if the new pipline also requires a bit less back and forth during early development.

OK, back to FE spell effects!  :)

Come on, how many company give free game, let one two, though only for those who buy early, not late? Most company would not gave free game and do not care people yelling at them, company will think them as not exit as long profit keep rolling, if not, they find some way to make profit to keep roll and dump, gave up on game don't sell well, they only keep game fixing as long there is profit, unless I'm wrong, but don't worry not all company like that. I don't know why people not happy even let's them know they getting free game, I don't get a free game, because I do buy game late, but this I do not know till 2 week ago or so.
