Tournament

GAME DAY UPDATES:

The tourney is over:

iamKira and  ppapanek win!

Here’s the latest info on the tournament.  Please review this if you are participating:

  • The tournament unfortunately DOES NOT start at Noon EST as previously stated.  You can check in at noon.  The tourney will start 12:45EST.  I’d adjust that so that things started when expected, but I’m unable to do so.
  • MAKE SURE YOU CHECK IN.  CHECK IN IS NOW LIVE.  You must check in before 12:45PM EST.  Just go here:  http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/details/1/12 and click on check
  • Added rule:  Light side must pick their dg’s and ready up 1st (this rule is kind of crap, but we are using it for this tourney)
  • Added rule:  You must be available when the tourney starts
  • Make sure you re-download the required mods from here:  http://www.box.net/shared/qf7lhj1zjl.  Changes were made to the AI mod on 2/16/2011.
  • At 12:45 (32 minutes from now), brackets will be generated.  Check here to see who you are playing first AFTER 12:45: http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/brackets/12

We’ll be running some practice tourneys over the next few weeks to try out a new site that we’ll be using for our tournaments going forward.  One of the benefits the JeeLounge site is that it makes it very easy to create tournaments with specific rules, upload replays, and track stats.  We had a small practice tournament on 2/6/2011 that was reasonably successful.  So far, we’ve had about 25 folks from the community register on the Jee site (Plays/Sports/Lounge), so I expect we’ll see even more participation in the this upcoming practice tournament on 2/20/2011 at Noon EST.

Well, first and foremost, we are going to have a series of these tournaments.  I’m planning for 2 more practice tournaments and then we’ll get back into having some cash prize tournaments.  So, consider these next 2 tournaments as just for fun, if you like, but just be aware that there is no cash prize for the practice tourneys.

What is the schedule?

  • 2/20/2011 – 2v2 Practice Tourney – Noon EST
  • 3/6/2011 – 3v3 Practice Tourney – Noon EST
  • 3/20/2011 – Cash Tourney – Noon EST (the format of 2v2 or 3v3 will be announced after the tourney on 2/20/2011)

What are the rules?

Each tournament will have varied rules that will be announced approximately 1 week before the tourney begins.

Here are the rules for the practice tourney on 3/6/2011 Noon EST (FYI – this is an ALL WELCOME tournament)

  • The tournament is 2v2
  • The tournament is single elimination (you lose once and you are out)
  • No erebus, ub, or oak may be used in this tournament
  • Doubles are allowed if you choose sed/reg/da/QoT
  • The map is cataract using default settings
  • Light side must pick their dg’s and ready up 1st (this rule is kind of crap, but we are using it for this tourney)
  • All players must use both uberfix 1.03 and the Enhanced AI mods (both can be downloaded in 1 installer here:  http://www.box.net/shared/qf7lhj1zjl)
  • All players MUST register using www.JeeLounge.com – you CANNOT participate if you do not create an account here
  • You may have an AI teammate if you wish (the reason for this is to boost our numbers and allow everyone to have a chance to play, even if they can’t get a teammate).  Of course, having an AI teammate will drastically reduce the odds of you winning
    • AI settings with be on normal HP and normal Gold, but they must be set to HARD difficulty

Jee LogoHere are some more details about the Jee sites.  First off, why are we using this site?  Well, simply stated, its always been a pain to organize and run Demigod tournaments.  We have to draft up brackets, form teams, decide on the rules, come up with a time that works for as many people as possible.  Knowing the problems we had in the last tournament, a fellow Demigod player, iamKira suggested we start using a site that he is affiliated with.  He gave me a demo of what the site had to offer and I think that it will be excellent for the community.

If you haven’t registered on the Jee sites yet, just follow these 3 simple instructions below.  You’ll still need to register for tournaments, etc, but this will get you added to the system.

  1. Go to www.JeeLounge.com and create an account.
  2. Go here:  http://www.jeelounge.com/teamdg/group/home/ and request membership to our Demigod group (called TeamDG).
  3. Go here:  http://www.jeelounge.com/user/favorites/1/games Click on about me.  Click on games.  Then fill in info for demigod and set yourself to active.

You will not need to repeat those steps again for future tournaments once you have registered.

So now you have a membership on the Jee sites.  Here’s what you need to do next to participate in the tournament:

  1. Find a teammate.  You can use this thread, pm’s, or whatever you want to track down a partner.  You can even use the Jee site to send pm’s to anyone that has already joined the teamDG group.  If you can’t find a partner or would prefer, you can play with an AI in this tournament.
  2. Post in THIS thread letting us know that you will be participating and who is on your team.
  3. Create your team on the JeeLounge site.  If you don’t have a team, you can’t play in the 2v2 tournament.  This can be handled 1 of 2 ways – that’s up to you.  You can:
    1. Have me create a team for you directly.  If you want me to do this, you need to let me know ASAP who is on your team, even if its just an AI.  I can do this as I’m the manager of the teamDG group.
    2. Or you can create your own team.  This gives you more freedom (eg you don’t need my help) but it does require some extra work to setup.  Here’s how you can do this:
      1. After you have logged into JeeLounge, click on Network (its on the bar that shows home/about me/network/stats, etc near the top of the page).
      2. Click on create a clan.
      3. Call the clan whatever you want and fill in whatever info you want.  Be sure to set membership condition to free.  That will create your clan (required to create your own team).
      4. Next, send an invitation to your teammate.  Once they accept your invitation, you will see them in your clan.
      5. Click on create team.  Call the team whatever you want.
      6. After its created, click on edit members and add your teammate to your team and you are done.  Here’s a good write up on the differences between groups and clans for anyone that is interested:  http://www.jeelounge.com/assets/docs/Clan-and-Teams.pdf.
  4. Next, you have register for the tournament.  Click here for the tourney page (http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/details/1/12).  Whoever is the team leader on your team has to do this.  Click on sign up, select your team from the drop down box and register
  5. The last thing you need to do is “check in” before the tourney starts.  The reason for this is that brackets are generated at the start of the tournament and we don’t want to include anyone that registered and has not shown up.  You MUST do this anytime 45 minutes before the tournament begins or you will not be able to play.  And I’ll say this again:  YOU MUST CHECK IN ANYTIME 45 MINUTES BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT STARTS OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY.

Here are folks that indicated they’d like to play but have not locked down teammates:

  1. Marchidanu
  2. Bielasso
  3. Dreamcatcher
  4. Jakins
  5. nnnils

Here are the registered teams:

  1. zen_god/pacov
  2. Akumrise/AntarestheKuuk
  3. Darkliath/Insidious
  4. renz/or-chun
  5. omg__in1/Lols_SeaWolf
  6. i_am_memory/manipulon
  7. TSK-Glagol/Zudoteteka
  8. sazonov85/Al-t
  9. ppapanek/iamKira
  10. nnnils/jakins

It was funny to me even though again we played against same opponents and again lost against them  . Had small problems with pings, but game wasn't laggy + ppapanek with kira played great as always ^_^ The only thing I didn't like is that site got problems... So didn't see any results/upcoming matches. I hope that gets fixed.

Looking forward to playing in another one :) You can already add me to participants with Insidious (3rd teammate is not decided yet) and doesn't matter what rules will be we'll still participate.

What's the deal with the tourney page on JeeSports? http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/brackets/12

I cannot download replays, since the round results in brackets aren't registered...

There were some site issues yesterday that made it impossible for individuals to track their win losses in the brackets, etc.  Kira said the devs will be looking into that today.  So, any of the brackets you see in the op, etc, were created by me on the fly so everyone would know who they play next, etc.

I'll put up a new thread about the 3v3 practice tourney sometime today or tomorrow.

We had a short time in the tourney, as was expected.  Our game lasted about 20 minutes, and saz/alt were in control after about minute six.  We never quite caught up, as alt's rook was way better than my rook.  And saz's assassin was porting in with great map vision.

Saz and Alt had a practice game going at 12:45, which apparently they were unwilling to leave.  They did not show up to our match until 1:33, then took 12 minutes rebooting their computers and getting ready.  So we started our first match a full hour after the tourney was to commence.  They were apologetic for the wait, explaining that they didn't want to leave their game, but it was lame waiting around for an hour, as one could imagine.  No hard feelings of course, but I think players in the tourney should avoid playing other humans in the last hour up to the tourney.  Practice on nightmare bots that you can end game without repercussions.

As for jeesports, I had logged in around 11:00 in prep for registering.  When I actually could register at noon I could not find the check in button anywhere.  I had to log out and then log back in in order to see it.  I must have refreshed info tab about a dozen times as I moved around looking for the check in button, but for some reason I had to log out/in for it to show up.

We had fun.  The onset of the tourney, and randomly generated brackets, brought a bit of giddiness to the whole affair, like I was discovering a new toy or something.  So I appreciated the novelty.  I hope our tourney gave some kind of virtual trophy or award on jeesports that the winners can have in their lounge on display.  They deserve bragging rights.

count me in for next tourney, and manipulon too barring work complications.  Team scatology is presently looking for a third piece of crap player.

Whats the 3v3 settup?

I'll get a thread going soon - be pretty occupied the past few days.

Debating whether or not to go no restriction on dg selection.  I'll sort it out soon.

I did decide the the following tourney (the 1st cash tourney) will be 2v2.  Then 2 weeks after that, it will be a 3v3 cash tourney.

hi there. i will upload my replays sometimes this evening.

something went weird with the matches reporting page and i cant figure it out. I reproduced the error only by doing something very strange.

the replays will have to be uploaded invividually on jeeplays.com rather than on the match detais page of jeesports as usual.

i am also willing to set up a small tourney to test the script perhaps this weekend.

i'll create a tourney later today. whoever wants to sign up is welcomed to.

best
iamKira

Wow impressive Rook in round 2 Kira, didn't know you had that in you.  Maybe you would have beat us last tournament too, if you didn't get stuck with Zen playing Rook in the second game 8O

Thanks folks. Looks like I should watch that replay. i cant remember it :)

Hmmm... I think you were playing your usual hyper-aggressive Rook in that match, Kira. The US guys are just vastly surprised someone was able to defeat Renz+Orcun, so they refer to that particular game. Heh.

Nah, it's anybody's game when you limit character selections.  Would be no fun if a tiny group of people went undefeated in all of the tournaments.  Neither Renz and Orcun or Pacov and Zen at least making the finals is quite a shock though, haven't watched to see why they (pacov/zen) lost yet.

They lost because nnils team took advantage of a few mistakes

actually he played extremely defensive which is the way to go with vial rook. Which apparently I've forgotten to do:(

heh... yeah - our game was quite a bit embarrassing... here's a highlight - zen gets chased down and easily killed.  I tp in behind 2 of the other demigods on the HP flag to try to hold that so he might have a chance to get out... I get killed.  It was... really, really, really bad.  Wish I wasn't running the tourney and we had technical issues on the jee site as I would have just buggered off for a little bit instead of sticking around to monitor the tourney and keep things moving.  But that said, happy to play my part.  Not happy to get destroyed so easily though due to our lousy play.

Yup - that's what makes these fun, imo.  Though again - really dumb dg selection rules on my part.  I'd wager we'd see some much more interesting combos if I removed rook earlier.

OK - looking to get the next tourney post up today.  3v3 practice tourney - no cash prize.  single elimination - no dg selection rules (i'm sure no one will pick erb/oak/ub/rook or some combo of that... surely :)).

The following tourney will be a 2v2 tourney with some restrictions in place (cash prize).  Then the 3v3 tourney which may or may not have some dg restrictions in place (cash prize too).

I'd love to hear ideas for the 2v2 cash tourney dg selection rules, though.
