The Latest Practice Tourney - 2/20/2011 Noon EST

See thread for details/registration

Tournament

GAME DAY UPDATES:

The tourney is over:

iamKira and  ppapanek win!

Here’s the latest info on the tournament.  Please review this if you are participating:

  • The tournament unfortunately DOES NOT start at Noon EST as previously stated.  You can check in at noon.  The tourney will start 12:45EST.  I’d adjust that so that things started when expected, but I’m unable to do so.
  • MAKE SURE YOU CHECK IN.  CHECK IN IS NOW LIVE.  You must check in before 12:45PM EST.  Just go here:  http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/details/1/12 and click on check
  • Added rule:  Light side must pick their dg’s and ready up 1st (this rule is kind of crap, but we are using it for this tourney)
  • Added rule:  You must be available when the tourney starts
  • Make sure you re-download the required mods from here:  http://www.box.net/shared/qf7lhj1zjl.  Changes were made to the AI mod on 2/16/2011.
  • At 12:45 (32 minutes from now), brackets will be generated.  Check here to see who you are playing first AFTER 12:45: http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/brackets/12

We’ll be running some practice tourneys over the next few weeks to try out a new site that we’ll be using for our tournaments going forward.  One of the benefits the JeeLounge site is that it makes it very easy to create tournaments with specific rules, upload replays, and track stats.  We had a small practice tournament on 2/6/2011 that was reasonably successful.  So far, we’ve had about 25 folks from the community register on the Jee site (Plays/Sports/Lounge), so I expect we’ll see even more participation in the this upcoming practice tournament on 2/20/2011 at Noon EST.

Well, first and foremost, we are going to have a series of these tournaments.  I’m planning for 2 more practice tournaments and then we’ll get back into having some cash prize tournaments.  So, consider these next 2 tournaments as just for fun, if you like, but just be aware that there is no cash prize for the practice tourneys.

What is the schedule?

  • 2/20/2011 – 2v2 Practice Tourney – Noon EST
  • 3/6/2011 – 3v3 Practice Tourney – Noon EST
  • 3/20/2011 – Cash Tourney – Noon EST (the format of 2v2 or 3v3 will be announced after the tourney on 2/20/2011)

What are the rules?

Each tournament will have varied rules that will be announced approximately 1 week before the tourney begins.

Here are the rules for the practice tourney on 3/6/2011 Noon EST (FYI – this is an ALL WELCOME tournament)

  • The tournament is 2v2
  • The tournament is single elimination (you lose once and you are out)
  • No erebus, ub, or oak may be used in this tournament
  • Doubles are allowed if you choose sed/reg/da/QoT
  • The map is cataract using default settings
  • Light side must pick their dg’s and ready up 1st (this rule is kind of crap, but we are using it for this tourney)
  • All players must use both uberfix 1.03 and the Enhanced AI mods (both can be downloaded in 1 installer here:  http://www.box.net/shared/qf7lhj1zjl)
  • All players MUST register using www.JeeLounge.com – you CANNOT participate if you do not create an account here
  • You may have an AI teammate if you wish (the reason for this is to boost our numbers and allow everyone to have a chance to play, even if they can’t get a teammate).  Of course, having an AI teammate will drastically reduce the odds of you winning
    • AI settings with be on normal HP and normal Gold, but they must be set to HARD difficulty

Jee LogoHere are some more details about the Jee sites.  First off, why are we using this site?  Well, simply stated, its always been a pain to organize and run Demigod tournaments.  We have to draft up brackets, form teams, decide on the rules, come up with a time that works for as many people as possible.  Knowing the problems we had in the last tournament, a fellow Demigod player, iamKira suggested we start using a site that he is affiliated with.  He gave me a demo of what the site had to offer and I think that it will be excellent for the community.

If you haven’t registered on the Jee sites yet, just follow these 3 simple instructions below.  You’ll still need to register for tournaments, etc, but this will get you added to the system.

  1. Go to www.JeeLounge.com and create an account.
  2. Go here:  http://www.jeelounge.com/teamdg/group/home/ and request membership to our Demigod group (called TeamDG).
  3. Go here:  http://www.jeelounge.com/user/favorites/1/games Click on about me.  Click on games.  Then fill in info for demigod and set yourself to active.

You will not need to repeat those steps again for future tournaments once you have registered.

So now you have a membership on the Jee sites.  Here’s what you need to do next to participate in the tournament:

  1. Find a teammate.  You can use this thread, pm’s, or whatever you want to track down a partner.  You can even use the Jee site to send pm’s to anyone that has already joined the teamDG group.  If you can’t find a partner or would prefer, you can play with an AI in this tournament.
  2. Post in THIS thread letting us know that you will be participating and who is on your team.
  3. Create your team on the JeeLounge site.  If you don’t have a team, you can’t play in the 2v2 tournament.  This can be handled 1 of 2 ways – that’s up to you.  You can:
    1. Have me create a team for you directly.  If you want me to do this, you need to let me know ASAP who is on your team, even if its just an AI.  I can do this as I’m the manager of the teamDG group.
    2. Or you can create your own team.  This gives you more freedom (eg you don’t need my help) but it does require some extra work to setup.  Here’s how you can do this:
      1. After you have logged into JeeLounge, click on Network (its on the bar that shows home/about me/network/stats, etc near the top of the page).
      2. Click on create a clan.
      3. Call the clan whatever you want and fill in whatever info you want.  Be sure to set membership condition to free.  That will create your clan (required to create your own team).
      4. Next, send an invitation to your teammate.  Once they accept your invitation, you will see them in your clan.
      5. Click on create team.  Call the team whatever you want.
      6. After its created, click on edit members and add your teammate to your team and you are done.  Here’s a good write up on the differences between groups and clans for anyone that is interested:  http://www.jeelounge.com/assets/docs/Clan-and-Teams.pdf.
  4. Next, you have register for the tournament.  Click here for the tourney page (http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/details/1/12).  Whoever is the team leader on your team has to do this.  Click on sign up, select your team from the drop down box and register
  5. The last thing you need to do is “check in” before the tourney starts.  The reason for this is that brackets are generated at the start of the tournament and we don’t want to include anyone that registered and has not shown up.  You MUST do this anytime 45 minutes before the tournament begins or you will not be able to play.  And I’ll say this again:  YOU MUST CHECK IN ANYTIME 45 MINUTES BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT STARTS OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY.

Here are folks that indicated they’d like to play but have not locked down teammates:

  1. Marchidanu
  2. Bielasso
  3. Dreamcatcher
  4. Jakins
  5. nnnils

Here are the registered teams:

  1. zen_god/pacov
  2. Akumrise/AntarestheKuuk
  3. Darkliath/Insidious
  4. renz/or-chun
  5. omg__in1/Lols_SeaWolf
  6. i_am_memory/manipulon
  7. TSK-Glagol/Zudoteteka
  8. sazonov85/Al-t
  9. ppapanek/iamKira
  10. nnnils/jakins

glad to help.

Ok - we are up to 5 teams officially registered.

IN1 - I'll update the op some time tomorrow to hopefully help our russian friends, but you it would be best if you try to communicate to the tomorrow and explain that they still have to form a team on the jee lounge site and register for the tourney there.

ALL - for our next practice tourney in 2 weeks + 1 day, the post here about the tourney will look a little different.  I won't be reporting on the teams that have registered here.  Ideally, I will post about a tourney, then folks can hit up jeelounge to create a team and register.  We will always have an FYI thread here on how to register, etc, but I don't want folks to think that just because they reported in here that they are "registered" for the tourney.  All registration must be handled on the jee site.

Okay, I'll talk to them in game.

IN1, you've beaten us though While we... cannot even remember if beaten anyone... Well maybe someone unlucky

Seriously, only thanks to nnnils knowing the ins and outs of proper 2v2. I have no trouble with individual skill in 2v2, obviously, but it's not a decisive factor in those games. You don't have to be a hero, you have to be mobile and opportunistic. Most of 2v2 matches I played were extremely monotonous and boring (pure flag control) up to certain point, then suddenly became madly intensive (portal runs). Much less PvP than in 3v3, requires different skills.

For Sedna, I should probably go Swift Anklet, no-HW, just Pounce, Heal, IG at 1-10. For QoT, I believe LO's or Cow's builds are the best for 2v2.

I've got a question. Is Sazonov/Al-t team formed officialy on JeeLounge? Someone please help him with registering his team.

They can use this link, I guess. I've translated the whole procedure into Russian especially for them. Sazonov is online now, since he masterfully last second host-DCed after losing a 2v2 to nnnils and me a few minutes ago.

Update: pm'ed him with the link.

alt added me as a friend, but hasn't joined team dg yet.  I just sent him an invite to that.

out of the 10 that indicated they formed teams, 6 have registered for the tourney officially.

We are up to 7 teams that have registered on the jee site.  Hopefully the other 3 that have indicated they wanted to play will register over there so they can participate.

There's still time to form a team and participate guys.  Let me know if you need any help, etc.

Still just 7 teams registered.  I'm off to sleep.  I won't be on again until 1 hour before the tournament starts.  I'll do my best to answer any questions then.

ALL - YOU MUST CHECK IN ANYTIME 45 MINUTES BEFORE THE TOURNEY STARTS.  If you do not, you won't be in the tournament.

Just go to the tournament page and click check in.  You can't do this until 45 minutes prior to the tourney.  The reason for this is so that folks that are no shows don't get added to the brackets.

I suppose I should start thinking about an alt again <_<   Sunday is not a good tourney day for me. I'll probably stay at work until 7-8 PM my time (your noon-1PM). It's kind of non-negotiable, since I work for the military. I won't be able to play with the crappy connection I have here. I'll try to reach Dreamcatcher, he played a lot with Seawolf, and he'll also probably be much more useful than me in 2v2 format, anyway.

Well, I guess I'm officially out. No luck with alt this time. Sucks a bit, after all my PR efforts. On the other hand, I don't really like 2v2 and especially 2v2 Rook-fests :) Eh...

Good luck and have fun everyone!

Important note: Pacov, if you need me for communication with Russian-speaking teams, pm me here, I'll view the messages and react ASAP. I can even enter the game if needed, though my connection will be notoriously horrible (enough for pms and chat, of course).

Going to update the OP with some game day notes in a few minutes.

A quick heads up for anyone reading this.  The tournament unfortunately DOES NOT start at Noon EST as previously stated.  You can check in at noon.  The tourney will start 12:45EST.  I'd adjust that so that things started when expected, but I'm unable to do so.

So, just make sure you log in to the tourney page around noon and check in.  My apologies for the inconvenience.

That said - folks can still register for the tourney for about 26 minutes.

I opened a game in demigod called tourney questions? - join there if you have any questions and ask away.  I might be afk here and there, so just ask your questions and stick around if I don't reply immediately.

check in is live now.  Registration is now closed.  If you did not register on the jee site, you are not in this tournament.

You have until 12:45 PM (about 45 Minutes) to check in.  Just go to the tournament site and click on check in.

6 of the 8 registered teams have checked in now.

in1 - if you are around and can, join my demigod game called Tourney questions.  Might help if any of our russian friends don't understand answers I'm giving them

At 12:45 (32 minutes from now), brackets will be generated.  Check here to see who you are playing first AFTER 12:45:

http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/brackets/12

also, in1 - do you have a replacement to play with seawolfe?

7 of the 8 teams have registered.

IN1 and seawolf won't be playing (so we won't have an 8th team)... unless someone contacts me asap and tells me they want to play.

There seems to be an issue on the jee site atm.

The next game to be played is TEAM:  ppap/kira vs Jihad power.

Here is the bracket:

Both of the semi final games are in progress now.

The finals begin!  Odds are we'll know the result in about 1 hour from now.  GL both teams!

And the final result:

iamKira and  ppapanek win!

So how about some feedback about this tourney?

My first thought - idiotic decision to allow rook.  But a few of you already know that, eh. :)

gratz to the winners! really sucks to get kicked out that fast:P

My first thought - idiotic decision to allow rook.  But a few of you already know that, eh. :)

You don't say! :D Let's put it this way: every 2v2 I've played with any good Rook player on my team, I've mysteriously won - and you have no idea how terrible I am in 2v2. Every 2v2 I've played vs Rook having no Rook on my team (even when I had a good aggressive pro TB) resulted in a crushing defeat. That's why I said a bit earlier in this thread, leaving Rook in was absurd.

Congratz to ppap+Kira, and also to nnils+jak. I play a lot with these guys, so I'm kind of proud of them O:) I'll watch the replays a bit later.
