Kushana Initiative Planning and Discussion

Hello friends old and new!

After a lengthy hiatus, I've come back around to enjoy some GalCiv2.  While playtesting my Major Minors, I remembered a discussion in another forum about playing a game by democracy.  It never went anywhere, but I thought I'd bring it up here.  The basic concept is that I'd play a game and post reports, and the participants would discuss and vote on the course of action.  The exact details and pace of the game are up for discussion.

I think it would be fun and I'd like to give it a try.  Anybody else interested in such a thing?

Edit Oct 10, 2010:  After some discussion, the game is on!  A new topic has been made, so if you're interested you can find it here: https://forums.galciv2.com/398308

I'd say it depends on which other wars would be going on and with whom the Thalans are siding at that point.

If the Thalan coalition is too strong, we could at least help the minor races by feeding them military techs (and get some bc or tech out of that).

If we can stage it so that other races gang up on the Thalans, let's join. Not only from a moral point of view, but also to avoid that the Thalans get their hands on any additional economic / manufacturing / technological capitals!
I wouldn't go as far as bribing other races to go to war, as that doesn't fit our profile. However we might consider it if the Thalans declare war. Sort of "let's pour some funds into helping the minors, trying to convince other races to join the defensive side"

I like that you're setting your standards high Tolmekian and for sure it would help to make the game more interesting. In the past I too often went down a peaceful route in Gal Civ II, making for rather boring games :p

I agree with Noctilucus, we could defend the minor races. we don't have to do it openly though.

I also agree with Noctilucus as well. I want us to go to war at some point (it's fun), but we shouldn't pick on the Thalans or any really strong race unless we're not alone in the fight.

The current meeting's been up for two weeks, and hardly anyone's spoken up. What's going on?

Yeah, sorry that I haven't pushed it forward.  I was just going to reply to your concerns and give notice that the ballot will be posted.

I've been a bit concerned myself about the lack of response.  After Noctilucus posted his response, I was wondering if everyone else just figured "yeah, that sums it up." or what.  Now that things are finally reaching the boiling point, it would be a bit sad if participation stayed dropped off.  I'll keep on playing, in any case, and will continue to post reports

Alright, will post the ballot ASAP.  My computer power supply burned out on Sunday and I've been busy dealing with that and other things.  Hopefully tonight.  Thanks for patience and can't wait to get on with the next quarter!

Couldn't agree more with both posts above!

Sorry for not posting - I, too, have experience computer issues. I'll respond to the ballot tomorrow.

i'm not aware of the new voting format. you guys can go on without my vote. i'll try to go back and read it on monday. sorry.

The voting's been open for about a week and a half now. Lord Carlos has opted out, and everyone else but TMS2224 has voted. Safe to call it now?

Yes, safe to call it.  Sorry, but I've been quite busy lately.  I'll post the results and get playing ASAP.

Question, can we still suggest starship and starbase names on the ballot?

Certainly.  Feel free to get involved any way you like.  You can suggest names off the ballot if you want.  Just send them up on the game thread and I'll work them in.

So, uh, when's the next report?

exactly what I was wondering QR....

Sorry folks.  I've had pretty much zero time to move on this in the past month.  Between yard work, getting the garden going, fixing two cars, various other spring/summer projects, moving to get new A/C and furnace, extra time at work, and trying to actually spend a little time with family . . . I've been happy just to get a little time at the end of the day to do nothing at all.

I have no intention of letting this fall into the Pit of Abandoned AARs, but I think it's safe to say that we'll be on hiatus for a little while.

Arrrr that's ok Tolmekian-just whenever you can mr

Any plans to resume this in the near future?

I hope so. It's been over a month, Tolmekian, we're all waiting.

The pictures in the new post on the game thread can't be enlarged.

Just got back from vacation and saw the special report.

Will there be more information following this? I assume so.

Ah, that's because I forgot to insert the links.  I'm rusty after my time off!  I'll fix them right away.

The answer to your question is yes, qrtxian.  I'd like to get the ball rolling on this. I just thought that the Gnolams going after the Yor was interesting enough to get it's own mention.

It took long enough, but there it is.  I actually played it out early-mid July, but didn't get time to post.  I'm out of town for the weekend, which is why I just pasted it up to get it done.

What next, councilors?
