I'm done with this game

I just wanted to say that until today, I have never truly been both dissapointed by Stardock.  While I have had minor issues in the past with some games, it is unacceptable that after multiple patch fixes the game still crashes once you reach turn 180 and up.  I have had to run Elemental easily over 100 times for this 1 game so far.  Every 3-5 turns I still get a memory error, and now if I try to research the Housing tech, My game crashes.  While the concept of this game is amazing, the actual mechanics and intangibles have forever turned me away from this game.

Thanks for keeping it short.

They just released a new patch like minutes ago. Try it and see if things are better.

Still no good.  Maybe a year from now I'll play it again when it fixes everything about it.  But when I can't play more than a few turns b4 the game crashes, it takes away all enjoyment from the fantasy of the game.

It sounds like you really enjoy the game, so why don't you try to work directly with support? Just give them the info they want and I'm sure they'll be happy to help you fix it as quickly as possible.

I'm done also.  I was willing to persevere with the game, especially when I visited these forums to find out why the game was in such a condition and read so many intelligent posts, but after being here for a week, I've found the community here to be disturbing.  The level of devotion to Stardock, Frogboy and Elemental borders on the theistic.  I have better things to do with my time than wade through pages of fawning devotees in an attempt to get what is, in reality, a shoddy product to work.  Flame away.

i get crashes - but not to the extent your describing - and with my auto save set up - i dont have a real issue - so im staying - but hope you will enjoy the game when they have truely fixed it up and made it like we all want it.

Wow, I've never had crash problems that bad even at release.

It gets really bad if you play epic speed on large maps with ridiculous settings...other than that i'm not sure

Man I have been girding out with normal settings and enjoying myself. trying new build now!!

Not a flame - but your comments are so unbalanced it's not funny.  There are lots of opinions here from all perspectives, including many negative ones.

And how will wading through the 'fawning' get 'a shoddy product to work'?  Like the rest of us, you would have to wait for future patches.

Expecting this all to be done within a few weeks is unrealistic, not 'theistic fawning'.

i think its a little of both really. I mean because of these forums i'm kind of glad that the people over at civfanatics are so crazy and full of aspergers which makes them hate everything but at least the developers get actual feedback instead of gushing and zealotry.

Once again - just not so.  There have been pages of well-reasoned discussion and suggestions here - it's not all 'gushing and zealotry'.

I'm a fan of Stardock and their games. I have been outspoken against people complaining in a way that doesn't actually help the game, the company or the community. I am not happy with the way things have gone - I don't like it. Having said that, there are a couple of very important points that need to be considered.

  1. Stardock has a history of coming out with game concepts that we love, and making those games brilliantly.
  2. The company is made up of people who have a passion for games, from the CEO to probably the janitor (I guess).
  3. The staff have an unprecedented level of customer interaction and feedback, and they do listen.
  4. Brad has been very direct, honest and upfront in his admissions, and undoubtedly sincere in his promise to improve the situation. After all, he has a lot more at stake here than the rest of us.

It is understandable how this company and this ethic can inspire a lot of dedication, patience and forbearance in the community and the customer base. Not to mention the generosity in making the first expansion free to everyone, and the second free to early takers.

No one is saying that the game is fine the way it is, or that there aren't problems, or that the mistakes are not major. And I haven't seen anyone that I'd call an overzealous, gushing, fawning fanboy. Some people are judging the company by precedent and by the way the staff interact with the community, and have chosen to support the game by remaining positive and encouraging and by putting their views forward in a supportive way. Others have reacted to their own disappointment in a less than helpful way. To me it's just the difference between good feedback and useless ranting.

If you can't stand to stick with it, take a page out of rydndirtys book and leave it for a while. Go and do something else for a bit. But deciding to vent and/or rage in an unhelpful way just because you're not going to remain as invested as others is not exactly fair to the rest of the community, and not conducive to good Developer-Community relations and open communication.

As a closing note, I find it's easier to be light of heart about such things. You don't end up being half as upset as you thought you might.

Do we get paid for working as playtesters as well?

If you weren't aware, the answer is yes. They have already stated that due all the fuss, people will be getting not one but probably 2 free expansions.

Ok....you're done with Elemental.

2 questions:

1) Given the fact that Stardock have multiple times promised that they will continue to work on this until it works for everyone, why did you feel the need to post about it on the forums?

2) Did you really have to play the drama queen?

Jeez, some ppl.

People should have the right to express an opinion about a game.

And no, the hotfix didn't fix the issues I have with the game. And yes, I will wait for the next update before playing again.

My opinion is the game is still very much in beta, but it will be ok eventually, and it should never have been released as it is...

Yep, your zealotry already proven in many threads of this forums are evidence that you are not needed. Yet, here you are. Lets thank people at Civfanatics for their existance. :)

True, but the drama.... Is that really necessary? Constructive criticism is fine. But phrases like "I'm done with..." really makes my "shit-o-meter" go postal!

Well, i highly doubt that either 1.1 in Oct or the free expansion in Nov/Dec won't lure you back. Especialy since you already spent good money on it and you now own it for life. Just play some other games in the mean time and we will see you then.

Guys/gals, if you are made at how things are playing out for now and disappointed in the release.  Put the game down and play something else for a couple of weeks/months.  Re-visit the game towards the end of the year and see what awaits.  Meanwhile, stop posting here and just walk away.

Everyone will benefit from this.

May I have a sugguestion?

When a patch is out, you wait, until the forum members feels the patch good, then play. I play 1.07 now,  I feel good, unless for 2-3 hours , it would crash in no case.

Stardock did this with Demigod, brought a game to the market full of bugs and loads of people got fed up and quit. I retuened to the game after a year to discover the community on its last legs, it can take half an hour to get a game going.

I like Stardock, the people and the ethos. But bringing out a product riddled with bugs is not professional. They should know this. I know a lot of you want to defend them, but they don't deserve it. People who pay good money for something should get something that works as advertised. This is not high school, its not wing it at the last moment. Those of you who are older gamers, professionals will know that you can't get away with this in the real world.

As much as I love what Stardock is, if they don't shape up they are (regretfully) going to deserve to fold. Its on them to release a functional product, not their paying customers to except flawed goods. That's simply the way it is in the market.
