Patch Time Frame

Patch Time Frame

So were supposed to atleast get one patch in septmeber that fixes magic and character creation.

But I say screw that, cant you all fix the end game slow down first and get a patch out ASAP, would rather have bugs squashed then content balanced

Quoting BoogieBac, reply 311.06 saves should be safe (with v1.07)....we have several old saves we're testing against and so far, so good!  Plus it's mostly performance tweaks and such.

Oh, wait, crap. PAX work starts tomorrow.
This will be the first time we'll miss PAX in the last 3 years. You working a booth or helping with the expo itself?

Post the patch notes! Rabble! rabble rabble rabble

You really should post on the journal page. I don't know about others but i do know i would really like to hear things like that up there. Though i am easily pleased with simple "were alive and not being mauled by interns" messages

The Bugfix Mod for Elemental 1.06 has many small items that could be included.

Alas, it can't be used "as is" because he also made some re-design decisions like nerfing the Haste spell to 1/2 - 1/3 power (presumeably without lowering the cost) that not everyone will agree with.

The pure bugfixes? Those would be great.

Nahh. A series of posts like "1.07 kinda soon", "1.07 soon", "1.07 almost there", "1.07 hold your breath" would just add more confusion.
And what's the point if the feature list can change at any time?
Nothing good ever comes from such announcements when feature XYZ doesn't make the cut after all because "issues" came up. Seen it happen time and time again...

your post makes me think of all the issues Empire Total War had when it first came out.  It should have never been released in the condition that it did.  One of the many major issues was that there were no seaborne invasions.  The AI would never attack from England or be attacked, ect.  But everyone stuck with the game because it was promising.  I gave up in it since patch after long waited patch produced dissapointing results.  The only good game was to be had by playing another human, forget sinlge player...  Well, I was really hoping for a deep single player experience from Elemental.  I guess I'll have to hold off for another month or two before I give it another decent try...

I assume you experience slowdown now, right...

Actually, I don't.

Let's define "slowdown". I do get poor FPS if I try to view big cities or attempt to zoom out in 3D Map mode. Simple fix, set Cloth Map treshold at 86%.

But my turns never get long and I got up to 380 turns on large maps. Wasn't really noticeable. Compared to round turns for games like Empire Total War, barely noticeable.

I really have no care for FPS in a TBS game. I mean it's more comfortable to move the camera around. But It's nothing I can't deal with.

Well if they are making the code easier for Brad to fix the AI with then I guess it's a good thing. I'm just saddies.

Regards,

V

While i'm disappointed that the patch isn't being released tonight, I really do appreciate that all of the Stardock devs are taking their time to make sure that when it is released, it is released right. It makes me hopeful for the future of the game! :)

Stardock, take a look at the Bugfix Mod. Might want to implement some of the code and fixes.

I can't wait for the patch for the performance fixes. My game drops performance around turn 130 and starts crashing around 150. I need this patch :(

elemental wasn't finished and will never will be at least according to brad.. so i guess that means we will keep getting patches forever.

I think that is a deliberate distortion of what Brad said and meant.  He was simply committing to a long time making tweaks and improvements.

There is "finished" in the sense that finished implies "complete". In this sense, Brad meant that Elemental will never be complete because he hopes to continually improve it, along with the community. Hence why the active modding support exists.

However. there are such things as deadlines and releases. Elemental has certainly been "released" and is therefore "finished enough" that they feel it is worthy of $50 for and to distribute internationally. However, it is not complete in the sense that Brad thinks it is in a perfect, untouchable and ideal.

Please do not cling to "not finished" as a way to justify releasing the game how it was in 1.0 and 1.05.

I'm still curious as to if this fix for "lategame slowdown" will fix the poor framerate after building the very first city.  Many many of us suffer from "beginning game slowdown."  All this talk of lategame is a bit concerning.  I thought the 16 page thread made it very clear that if we build a city, bam instant and crushing loss of fps.

that should be fixed partially with the LOS changes and Jesse's mystic changes.

Good news on the performance issues having been corrected! The memory leaks have been preventing me from playing a lot more lately, so i'm definitely looking forward to the patch. Thanks for all the hard work you guys are doing! It is appreciated. :)

Noted that the shard respawn is seen in map editor as well.

I'd like to see you say that when you get 5fps, like i do when viewing a city. Its more than uncomfortable, its unplayable. Every mouse-click has to be choreographed in advance to avoid the game going nuts and placing 3 duplicate buildings all over the screen >_<

What is your clothmap zoom threshold?

Set it to something like 86% and it will definitely help you out. Dynamic Lighting was also a major hit for performance, turn that off too.

My point is that you can, as a user tweak performance (to an extent), but you cant' do nothing about the AI.

Cheers,

V

Is telling people to use the "cloth map" (no graphics) really supposed to be a "solution"? Stardock might as well have added a text mode interface, as visually appealing as that "cloth map" is!

It's certainly a workaround that is sufficient for a little while until the issue has been addressed. The cloth map mode isn't that terrible, and not quite comparable to a text mode interface. :) (Hey, I still play text adventures!)

Hmm, champions without stacked items and with no boost for this patch is gonna make it hard to use them at all, since it is pretty common to get a spy and a stone giant on the other team to deal your champions 20+ damage before you can act.  That will be most or all of any champion's hp. Oh well, guess it is back to 100% armies, but at least the game sounds like it will be working properly :)

I play mostly on cloth map (high threshold set), I zoom in only for building and moving units on smaller distances. Cloth map gives a better and clearer view of the whole play area and it has gameboard feel that is cool.

Way to go BoggieBac, you guys just fixed this because of alborrelli's bitterness.   J/K

haha.. i KNEW they shouldn't be so nice as to say "tonight".. there's always something. If they believed "tonight" they should have said tomorrow that way they had the option to surprise us!  :)

Glad I didn't stay up or leave work early today to see if the patch was up.

But dammit, now I'll be waiting for your "midday" which is my evening.. hahaha.  Can I have my cake and eat it too?

Thanks for the update and continued hard work guys.
