Doc, what's the matter with people having freedom?

God yes.

Everyone should have the RIGHT to kill and/or injure others - or themselves.

Blowing your own brains out first solves the problem.

Why assume the worst in people?

Dude, c'mon... you know that ain't right.

Come to think of it, this thread could easily be turned into a debate of possession/ ownership of standard firearms (pistols, revolvers, shotguns, and rifles).

But I'll try not to.

So JAFO or starkers, would you say that I should not own Browning over/under 12guage for shooting sporting clays?  Cuz, in a sense, that gun can be considered a toy.  Just out shooting at flying targets.  But I also keep it at home for self-defense. (Not that I'm really paranoid or anything, but it does lend a sense of security in the rural area I live in, nonetheless is there if I need it.)

I guess as an American... we have a different culture than most of the world that is used to the heavy handed government rule ingrained into their culture.

ps. is there another thread where this topic is relevant?

BUMP. :P

I don't like firearms full stop!  Even in the hands of the experienced and responsible, terrible accidents happen (at age 12 I saw a man with half his head blown away), and in the hands of the deranged, irresponsible and/or criminal, well we all know these people should never ever have guns.

'nuff said.

The way I see it... is the criminals and irresponsible will get the firearms anyway, regardless of regulation or law. So by regulating legal ownership you mat be denying a lawful and sane person from defending themselves. ps. thank you for your reply, starkers... I do respect our difference in opinion.

I don't know that it's a difference of opinion as such... I just don't like firearms, and who would after the trauma of finding someone they knew with half their head blown away by a shotgun at just age 12??

And the way I see it, if nobody had guns (and I mean NOBODY) nobody would need a gun to defend themselves against a gun wielding criminal or somebody who is deranged.

What's more, think about how many more military personnel would return home to their families if there were absolutely no firearms, missiles or explosive devices whatsoever.

Sorry to get this off topic a bit, but...

I used to use a plunger type trap, but man alive, I ordered a Wiretek Easy Eliminator online.  Best dang purchase I've made in years.   I have killed about 8 moles this spring/summer and it's the easiest mole trap I have ever used.  Those plunger type traps are a pain in the ass to set; all you do for this one is set in on the ground, step on it, and leave it alone until the mole sets it off.   And, yes, they will just tear the crap out of a yard and or garden.  I have found that you have to kill them early on in the spring, that is when the little buggers like to get their moley freak on and make more moles.

Thanks for pointing out that mole trap, Admiral. I've got a mole problem in my front yard and I need to find a way to kill the little bastards. Sadly I've been reduced to having to lean on a cane because of the pain when I go to the doctors now and a couple weeks ago I was walking back inside having came home from a doctors appointment and my cane sunk down into a mole tunnel and I almost tripped and broke my f'kin neck. Obviously...it's either them or me. However, I have an indoor-outdoor cat so if I'm going to use a trap like this I have to make %100 SURE that my cat Can Not set it off by accident. Is there any chance of that happening? Can another type of animal set it off by walking on it above ground? It doesn't look like it but seeing as how you have one I figure you're the best person to ask. Thanks again.

Oh...go for it...afterall it's all just pissing into the wind....debating gun control.

If I were an American I'd probably just go for something half-way bloody DECENT. -  M61 Vulcan Cannon.....PERSONAL PROTECTION, mind you....so what if it'll spit out 20mm explosive shell at 100 rounds per second.....at least I'll put a real scare up that pesky squirrel"s arse.....

....if I can ever find the squirrel afterwards....

....or the tree it was in.

On a serious note, Jafo. What would you do if you lived in a middle eastern country with a despotic government or in a country that had a tyrant in political control? The government decides your people aren't wanted in the country and the ethnic cleansing begins. How do you Fight Back against a government with soldiers carrying fully automatic weapons and driving tanks? What would you do? Attempt to fight back with your little pea shooter gun that you could legally buy? Or since it's totally ineffective compared to their hardware would you just roll over and let them kill you and your family (after the military men who've come to kill you rape your wife and daughter of course)?

Shit like that happens all over the world every day and western countries aren't immune to this kind of violence. Granted it's far more unlikely because the American government actually values human life and doesn't let despot racists into seats of power, but some day that could change. Did you see what happened to the Serbs in Croatia? During the Yugoslav Wars, Croatian Serbs rebelled and led a military campaign against the Croatian government, creating an unrecognized state called Serbian Krajina in hopes of achieving independence, international recognition, and complete self-governance from the government of Croatia. The statehood had defacto control over most of the territory during its existence between 1991 to 1995 but was not recognized by any other nation or groups. Serbian bid for independence ended by a Croatian crackdown during the Operation Storm that crushed the rebellion, leading to a considerable exodus of Serbs from Croatia. As response to a Croatian lawsuit accusing Serbia of genocide in Croatia and BiH, Serbia has filed its own countersuit against Croatia alleging that Operation Storm and other Croatian military operations during the 1990s were acts of ethnic cleansing amounting to a genocide of local Serbs.

If the common Serbian people would have had access to military type armaments then they probably wouldn't have been massacred by the hundreds of thousands. Then again who cares, it's not like it will EVER happen in a "civilized" country like the US or Canada or Australia, right? Because we all know people with evil motives like genocide could NEVER come to power in todays world, right? Yeah....I wouldn't bet on that, and neither should anyone with half a brain. A disarmed people are a people who can't fight back. A disarmed people are nothing but cattle that bring in tax dollars for their respective governments. As long as the people are disarmed then the government can raise their taxes as high as they want and the people can't do anything about it. It's not like any people anywhere throughout history have Ever needed to fight a tyrannical government. Oh wait...I guess there was that whole pesky American Revolution thing....and I think the French might have had some uprising against the monarchy or something...but both of those were totally not needed, right? I'm sure those people could have won their revolutions with sticks and rocks though...who needs guns to fight the government?

And by that you are describing the USA...and thus justifying gun ownership.

In a debate on gun control you are patently unarmed....;)

I'm not describing the US. I'm asking what You would do if you lived in a county where some f'ked up shit went down? I even said "Middle Eastern" country in my post. So, quit avoiding the question and answer instead of dancing around it :P

I grew up about 150 miles downwind of Maralinga ....so I was already irradiated by the Poms in the 50's.

Jafo I already told in another post that you hijacked you can't own fully automatic weapons in the U.S. legally also a 20mm chain gun is not something you can use by hand it is designed for destroying tanks And light armored vehicles I think you made your point on your stance on how you feel about guns so please quit flaming people for their opinion. I guess your Mom didn't pay enough attention to you and we have to suffer for it. Please go find something else to be negative about, the OP had nothing to do with a debate on gun ownership and if you are that frightened by it then don't come the U.S.

Narbytrout , As far is I know there is no single thread where that is debated and it wasn't my intention to do so, I don't have a problem with responsible legal ownership but some people seem to think that no one should own them And is willing to impose their view on the rest of us

Raven X I think this guy made that one him self, I didn't check the credits at the end but he may have a way to order one or details on how to make one there is another video he did on Youtube but I don't think it has anymore info. Also cats are excellent hunters of moles but they get bored easily so might need to get quite a few of them to get rid of your problem. I never found the traps to work That well!

I own a shotgun,a rifle, and a couple of target pistols.  'The Last Raccoon' is a novel I am writing in my spare time based on my experiences with them.  Hopefully it will turn into a movie starring Tom Cruise.  I will sign the first copy and send it to Jafo.

RavenX, I dunno what to tell you.  I wouldn't think a cat could set it off.  It is kind of like the plunger trap in that the mole has to work its way underneath the setting plate.  Once that plate gets pushed up, those claws spring closed.  I honestly can't see a cat being able to do that. I can't remember if the instructions mentioned anything about pet safety but I am legally obliged to inform you that I am not  responsible for missing cat paws.  Oh, and speaking of legality I must also mention kitten juggling has nothing to do with mole traps.  Remember that!

As for that little canon thing, it looks dangerous simply because of stability.  Furthermore, I was only joking about wanting 50 for a squirrel war... sheesh.  You silly, silly people.  There is no such thing as "squirrel wars".  In this day and age unless my government declares war it is either called a "police action" or a "conflict".  I was not kidding about Napoleon.  He will pay... one of these days...

Humans were hitting themselves over the head with rocks before guns..... And being true to our nature, bigger, better, and more of it.

Personally, I can't wait till I can control a Self Defense, or hobbyist, or hunting for food, weapon by thought.

And that's my cuty patooty squirrel, Chipper. I fed all last winter. When I go sit outside, he actually hangs with me. I have fallen in love for this

little gift.  I am told they are not popular. But, that's never stopped me anyways. Neighbors be dammed.  <3

The pic looked better on my pc. Maybe size thing.?

Just want to add about moles... Can they see in the dark or something??? ;P   And the idea of twisting my ankle in one of their holes, is disheartning

at best.    Live traps?  Just a suggestion.

Moles have poor eye sight and some are stone blind they can smell very well though, and the Star Nosed mole has receptors that through touch allow them to create a 3d image they can process and find there food! the only thing I have found to be effective are the ultra sonic mole spikes but they are not 100%! the next step is poison but I don't like to use it! I have a dog that likes to eat them but she tears the yard up just trying to get them.

I want fifty of them!  Now I can prepare my squirrel war that I have been planning this for years.  Years!  Up until now I have been relying on my sling shot duct tapped to my dog, but now ?!?!?!  Now I have a weapon that will make the difference.  Those dang squirrels won't know what hit 'em!  Well, except the one I call 'Napoleon'.  He thinks he's a fancy one alright.  Swinging from tree to tree.  Eating the bird seed out of the bird feeder.  Taunting me with that little, French squirrel accent.  By God your days are numbered Napoleon!  You hear me?

:O  wow.. I am not the only one who thought of anti-squirrel weapons when I first watched the video.  ..didn't think of attaching them to the dog..

Maybe I can make some form of mini cannon wielding zeppelin to hunt them in the trees.
