Forums go Boom every time I try to post!

Forums go Boom every time I try to post!

Has anyone else been having this problem lately? At least half the time I try to post, the forums go Boom and my post is eaten. And it's periodic; for example, I've tried to post something like 5 times in the past 10 minutes but it won't work. But I posted something earlier in the day and it worked just fine, but the day before I couldn't post anything either.

Also, if this post works, I will cry.

wat the hell is wrong with an animated gif. you got real problems to worry about.

Specific threads have been reduced to a crawl [loading-wise] when inundated with animations.

Most are somewhere between useless and just plain childish.

As with all things.....in moderation is fine.

And to be fair, vStyler's avatar is subtle and isn't annoying.  But I don't want to get into having to judge whether an avatar is "appropriate" or not if it's animated.  It's just easier to say no animated avatars.

OK, that make sense.

But, I'm on another forum where most everyone has an animated gif avatar and animated signatures with less posts per page and they run with no problems what so ever.

Don't cut the arm off because of an infected finger. FIX THE FINGER.

My concern isn't just speed, but annoyance.  I don't want to scroll down a page and see avatar after avatar of annoying animations and flashing colors.  Subtle avatars are fine, but we all know everyone won't do a subtle animated avatar.

I know what you mean there. One person I know has an avatar so annoying that I quickly scroll past his post never reading them.

I did look at the upload image section and while it does not allow a gif upload it does not say anything about "No Animated Avatars" so if people do figure a work-around they might feel singled out.

Forums on the other hand are still slow as hell. <_<

Not for everyone. Since they fixed the boom problems it has been quite a bit faster for me.

Great to hear! Now this is a thread about reporting problems, not saying everything is all clear. Unless you're suggesting we are lying sons of bitches.

The BOOM is an issue of them not honoring our request, the servers don't distinguish between "you" and "me" (oh Moosetek, we like that guy, let's never boom! on him ever!).

It's possible they have multiple webservers and only one breaks, you just happened to get assigned to the "good" webserver (I know similar issues have happened at my work).

A few loading errors here and there, but otherwise Its okay

Couldn't access the forum again this morning, it just hung...

We were having some server/db issues intermittently last night.  As of now they are resolved, but I don't think they had anything to do with the boom errors.  I did ask our database guy to continue looking at our error logs and see how often it happens and what he can do.  He's been trying a few things the past few days days to reduce the amount of errors (which seem to be related to db load in some way).

I'll keep you guys updated of anything further that we try.

We did a forum update a short while ago and ran into some server problems.  That was the reason for your troubles.  Sorry for the inconvenience.
